I think it means - give us all a Derby winner and we'll send them our support! :thumbsup2:

I support the troops on an individual basis, if I can go for drinks with a guy and he doesn't turn into an A$$hole, I'll support that troop.

as someone who served in the u.s. military recently, i gotta tell you...

most "troops" actually laugh at all that "support" we find it funny.

especially all those redneck country singers who write songs and shit (i.e. toby keith, i think his name is). and all the yellow ribbons and all those tacky american flag stickers people put on their trucks...

for about 99% of the people who join the military, it was basically a business decision. hardly anybody joins for "patriotic reasons" maybe 1 in a 100 join for that...

the rest, join for the free college benefits (my main reason for joining), the travel, the good paycheck...

i made over $40,000 (AFTER tax) my last year in the military and i lived 45 minutes from the beach in Italy! not bad for a 23 year old kid!

granted, once we're in, we take it serious. especially when we get sent down range (iraq or afghanistan) we do our job whether we agree with it or not. and we do whatever we can to keep our buddies safe...

but we sure as hell ain't fighting for "patriotism" if the military paid minimum wage and had no benefits and no free college and no opportunities for travel...nobody would enlist. maybe 1 in a 100 of what we have now. let's not kid ourselves.

why do you need to "support" someone who is just doing a job for selfish reasons? i didn't expect any to "support" me when i was in. i didn't deserve it. it was just a job.

That's the way it was when I was in also. But I was not sure if it was still true today. Thanks Christian!

i only got out 3 years ago. so i was in during the crazy post 9/11 military...

sure, we got a few young kids that came in thinking they were going to fight terrorism and save the world...

but for every pat tillman that enlisted (i.e. someone who believe in "the cause") there were another 100 guys like me who just wanted a better life...

free college, good pay, great travel, all the foreign p**** you could ask for! :toast:

all your tax-dollars at work!

Support the troops means don't yell at them and call them bad names when they come home. Also, it means adopt one and send him/her some candy, clean underwear and cell phones. That's what it means to me.
