“The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the US Government can not pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies. Increasing America’s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that 'the buck stops here.' Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.”

He has no clue what he is talking about.

Debt is just an accounting entry.

Those folks at Moody's and Standard & Poors are dumb shits, their rating game is more or less just a dog and pony show.

Back in April, Ben also warned that US deficit is unsustainable, what the fuck does he know? He is a chairman of The Fed Reserve after all.

Lol.

Here's how many Republicans Senators voted to raise the debt ceiling each time it came up for a vote since 1997.

1997: 55
2002: 31
2003: 50
2004: 50
2006: 51
2007: 26
2008: 34
2008: 33

Then Obama was elected.

2009: 2
2009: 1
2010: 0

Another fun fact: The '03 vote was on the SAME day the senate voted for Bush's $350 billion tax cut.

How does showing that Republicans have been fiscally irresponsible in the past, demean their efforts today to cut the outrageous Federal Government spending?

It doesn't Vit, but it's how Liberals think. Each and every time you ask them how bad behavior condones more bad behavior all you get is hamina hamina hamina. It's a bullshit comment from people that can't justify their position. Clearly if you think it was wrong then, there's no reason for you to think it's right now.

It's the fact that they are using it to push their political agenda. Even telling people that they are willing to not pay our debts if they don't get their way. Completely and utterly cowardice!! Way to blackmail America you sick fucks!!

It just show the hypocritical nature they always give us. They are just voting against it now because obama is a dem. They don't have any real solutions or ideas...it is always just a party line thing.

They are embarrassing creatures. The fact that they are blackmailing the country to get their agenda passed rather than going about it the proper way is sickening. How can they even threaten to not pay our bills. What kind of message is that sending. That we will not pay our debts because of a 3-4% increase in millionaires and billionaires taxes. Unbelievable! Those sick fucks!!

The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies.

Over the past 5 years, our federal debt has increased by $3.5 trillion to $8.6 trillion. That is “trillion” with a “T.” That is money that we have borrowed from the Social Security trust fund, borrowed from China and Japan, borrowed from American taxpayers. And over the next 5 years, between now and 2011, the President’s budget will increase the debt by almost another $3.5 trillion.

Numbers that large are sometimes hard to understand. Some people may wonder why they matter. Here is why: This year, the Federal Government will spend $220 billion on interest. That is more money to pay interest on our national debt than we’ll spend on Medicaid and the State Children’s Health Insurance Program. That is more money to pay interest on our debt this year than we will spend on education, homeland security, transportation, and veterans benefits combined. It is more money in one year than we are likely to spend to rebuild the devastated gulf coast in a way that honors the best of America.
And the cost of our debt is one of the fastest growing expenses in the Federal budget. This rising debt is a hidden domestic enemy, robbing our cities and States of critical investments in infrastructure like bridges, ports, and levees; robbing our families and our children of critical investments in education and health care reform; robbing our seniors of the retirement and health security they have counted on.
Every dollar we pay in interest is a dollar that is not going to investment in America’s priorities.

It's always been a party-line issue. The debt limit has been raised 74 times since 1962. It's politics as usual that Obama said that before he was elected Prez. Hypothetically, if an R wins in 2012 they'll be put in a similar situation in the future. Better be conscience of that now.
