unreal

last race tonight Mountaineer Race 9.

The favorite in the race looked to be the best and go off around 2-1. Someone selling big money on this favorite Billy Be Normal at 4.9-1 at ehorsex.com with 8 minutes to post. sold a ton at this price so I bought up a bunch and played this horse #8 Billy Be Normal to win thinking this is a pretty good overlay. In the double pool will pays he was clearly a 2-1 horse as well and the favorite.

At the start, just out of the gate the jockey pulls the head of this horse down so hard he literally flips over him and falls harmlessly to the ground. 1 or 2 strides out of the gate. Ive seen 100,000 races and nothing like this. the Jockey literally drives this horse down and the horse goes almost to his knees as the rider flips over this horse. Horse stays standing and runs around the track. Jockey is sitting on his ass like "wow what happened??" They have a short inquiry but decide that the ride fell off the horse on his own accord. YEA you can say that again. Can I lodge an objection with me evidence to the West Virginia Racing Commission? somebody knew he would fall off this horse, sold those contracts and then laughed all the way to the bank. What a joke.

I was watching close because I was suspecting that something weird might happen to this horse when some "person in the know" sold tons of contracts at 2X what he went off at. This was the only big money on the board it was so obvious looking back on it. No other bid/ask was over $50 and there was these $550 contracts at 4.5 and 4.9 to 1. I dont mind a bad loss. But forcing the horse to go down to his knees and faking that you tumbled off is just unreal.

this really sucks.

I in no way blame the excellent people at ehorsex. ITs an exchange and Buyer Beware. I love the exchange. Just thought this was a little over the top (literally)

Hi...I used to race harness horses for years...As far as T breds go I think there are alot more safer ways for a jock not to win then risk his life falling off a horse out of the gate....this is extremely dangerous ....I really dont think therewasany correlation between ehorse and the race itself but I sympathize with u...chalk is pretty dead at Mountaineer....

I think you are being paranoid - if you look at hte odds at betfair for every US horse race you will find times where a horse trades at way bigger than you or I think they should - but they win and lose. Remeber at exchanges like Betfair and betehorse the odds are going to be so much higher - sometimes suspiciously but i wouldn't get paranoid about it. You may be talking from your pocket on this occasion.

Having grown up around south Louisiana racing, I say anything's possible. My favorite was the fog jockey. (Jock hid in the chute and waited while the field went around. Cost him eight years) I've seen grooms in the clubhouse turn at 3am looking for buzzers.(could sell for $50) I loved it when Patin went out of the state and rode fire in the Arkansas Derby. I've seen two quarterhorses get smoked with weed 20 minutes before a race and run one-two. Them Cajuns had more moves than a belly dancer.

Exchanges like Betfair have led to an increase in race fixing and horse stiffing in England.

Sorry to hear it trytry. Nothing surprises me anymore in racing. There were some odd drives the other night at Wdb as you know. The one thing that bothers me with it is when jocks/owners opt to walk their horse through a race to keep him fresh for another race - or so he can drop down and be fresh. Sat night I saw a couple out there who purposely were pulled to the back and never got a call. Sauntering ac**** the line 15 lengths back! With the betting public laying money on this sport, it is a shame that there aren't more stringent controls. Not sure what the solution with regards to enforcement is, but we all know that something should be done at times.
............and they hung Pete Rose lol

That word that says ac**** is actually a 6 letter word for "going past" and it won't allow me to type it!!! ????????

Why won't it let me write it?

There are races fixed all ac**** the country every day! Hell, I remember having a friend who worked at Monticello in the paddocks and he gave me 9 out of ten winners one night! He would be standing in the closed in paddock at Monticello race way witch was glassed in so people can see the horses before they race! He would show us a number by using his fingers against his leg! He won every race except one which the horse broke! The next day I called him and I asked him how?? He said he hears the riders talking all the time in the jockey's room! There has always been race fixing but with people betting against people at certain shops, there are more obvious fixes going on!

Banned for Life - "Exchanges like Betfair have led to an increase in race fixing and horse stiffing in England"

GROW UP! - race fixing has and always will take place. The only difference is that at exchanges like Betfair it is more evident and a clever bettor will know if it's too good it ain't right. Before was a much worse scenario - I remember races where Ladbrokes had a horse Party Politics at 15/8 when evrywhere it was 11/10 - the horse had all the conditions in its favour but was pulled up after a few fences. If you're clever you can use the betting pattern as a valuable source of information - I know i do.

Before poor performances were swept under the carpet with comments such as "cannot explain horses poor performance","horse sulked", "horse gurgled", "horse ran too free" and that was that. At least now with Betfair having a Memorandum of Understanding with the UK Jockey Club irregular betting activity is reported and with client names being divulged it's easier to investigate. It will never clear up horse racing but is a small step in the right direction and should be welcomed for that. Do you think the UK bookmakers report the fact when a trainer or owner is backing a horse besides his in a race? i think not! If you expect horse racing to be 100% clean you're living in a dream world - it's an ideal but it ain't gonna happen EVER so maybe if that's what you expect you shouldn't bet on the horses.

Yes, horse racing has been fixed for a long time. Yes, wagering portals add to the magnitude of cheating.

There is zero doubt some of the exchange's prices are being manipulated,

have to be deaf, dumb and blind to not see it.

Vegassportspicks,

I am a fellow Coonass and I share your sentiments about Louisiana racing. I remember the Sylvester Carmouche (fog jockey) incident very well.

If you or anyone else on the board would like to read about the good ole days of corruption in La Racing, go to Amazon.com and buy a copy of Illusion by Mel Levine. Illusion is the story of a former gambler/hustler (Danny Coates) in New Orleans who was singled out by the feds and chosen to become a gov't mole because of his close relationship with the NO mob (run by Carlos Marcello) and his ties with local politicians. The feds were after a ring of corrupt judges believed to be involved with Carlos & Co and Danny was the perfect mole...a longtime wise guy who had connections on both sides of the fence. What the feds did to this poor guys life was disgusting. I won't ruin the book for you but let's just say that they manipulated his life to the point where he had no choice but wear a wire and rat out his pals or have his family perish...Read the book...you'll enjoy it. There are some INCREDIBLE gambling stories in the book. Without giving it all away, I'll give you guys a little taste of a couple of stories/scams to wet your appetite:

1. The story of Danny's pal pummeling a referee at a Tulane basketball game because the ref's calls cost him a winning bet. Hilarious!

2. The story of Danny and Co actually posting false racing results in the morning newspaper so the bookies grade their action incorrectly. This was the best scam I have ever read about. You won't believe it. Anyone who has ever been stiffed buy a bookie should read this. You'll get a hard on.

Danny was my best friend's father and they were the some of the most notorious scammers at FG back in the day. They used to bring us to the track every Saturday and leave with several shoe boxes full of cash. It's almost a "Good Fellas" type situation...I don't condone what they did, but it sure was fun
while it lasted.

If there are any NO natives out there, I have a VHS of Buddy Deliberto doing a WDSU news cast where he says "The guys who fixed the 6th race at he Fair Grounds today are so crooked, they'll have to have their graves screwed into the ground"...whatever the hell that means.

Hi DaTrout. Thanks. I'll check it out.

Sportsman's Paradise. Back in the day, horseracing rule enforcers appeared to be under threat of getting lost in the swamp. That seems to be changing a bit with the slots people on the job.

Don't know if you heard but a couple years back Louisiana jock John Hamilton was sat down at Sam Houston for carrying a battery although they never caught him with it. In the winners circle picture you could see it in his hand. Didn't bother to throw it away. Carrying had become second nature. Here's a few of my all-time favorite bayou "jocks" Maybe the initials will ring a bell. (B.P.,K.B., B.A.Jr., A.G., and way back: N.M., L.S.)

By the way I'm a Texan. My family raced in Louisiana before racing came to Texas. (mainly Delta and Evangeline with trips to the FGs) It was a blast.

Best of luck.
