well......an o.k.weekend....losers with trabant(split nod at home) and branco as a substantial dog.....and had a small loser on raheem....don`t get me started on this one...

hit the over in suleymanoglu....the under with reid/cintron by a hair.....hit the trabant over..and the hedge with diaz and sim......and still have several open parlays....and a flat on soliman tomorrow night...

raheem wasn`t winning that fight under any circumstances....i`m getting very tired of inept, biased reffing....that guy should be banned from boxing....

1)yes,raheem was holding behind the head....juarez is at least 2 inches shorter than raheem....and is constantly boring in...raheem can`t fight inside with juarez so he ties him up....do i like this type of fighter?....no....does it happen all the time...of course...the ali reference by the hbo crew was dead on....

i believe that starting in the 10th,that raheem knew he couldn`t win by decision,so he was trying to get disqualified to bring more attention to what was going on....because by the tenth,he was effectively out of the fight....as much by the ref`s antics as by anything that juarez was doing....

the ref had no idea how to break fighters....you don`t stick a hand in or just give lipservice and expect them to separate in a tough fight...you work a little and get between them...separate them physically so no one can get off a cheap shot on the break....earn your money...

he was focused on raheem the whole fight...it was a disgrace....i believe the knockdown came literally seconds after one of the point deductions....a joke...

yes, raheem held behind the head...but,the ref was obviously doing everything in his power to assist juarez...you`d have to be blind or biased not to see it....

short of a stoppage,raheem wasn`t winning this fight...period...

i can`t imagine what i`d say if i`d had real money on this....

a disgrace...

diaz fought one hell of a fight....was much quicker than i thought he`d be....but,part of that was because i underestimated sim`s immobility and the shocking amount of rigor mortis that has set in for someone drawing breath....he was wooden...as a friend said to me previously,"stiffer than pinnochio`s dick".....

i still think diaz is a big go against vs. another top american fighter...outside of houston....

but he did exactly what needed to be done vs the wooden indian...great job....i feel lucky to hit the hedge....sim looked in some trouble several times late....great matchmaking by the duva team.....

and a great choice of ref in the fight they stood to lose....

the absolute best fight of the weekend was an unlined fight pitting 28-5 gerson guerrero vs 22-2 jair jimenez(superflyweights..jimenez stepping up in weight) on telemundo friday night........the fight of the year for me by far......guerrero won by a much wider margin than was possibly warranted...was a hairline fight and could have gone either way...the scoring disparity was a disgrace....but both guys were unbelievable...guerrero`s power shots vs the smaller jimenez` volume punches....and they were solid shots....not pitty pat punches....

honestly, one of the best fights i`ve seen in years....ashamed somebody had to lose....guerrero finished stronger and almost stopped jimenez in the 12th....
non-stop punching...punishing shots.....without losing quality technique...incredible stamina,toughness and will...

my fight of the year,so far...

Agree. Raheem was handcufffed and was prevented
from fighting his fight. Same crapolla as the
Courtney Burton farce. Hey, we can piss and moan till hell freezes over, but it will not
change anything.

no.it won`t change a thing....just grates when some bald headed moron can`t officiate a big fight in an objective manner...

when a guy trains for literally months getting ready for the fight of his life, and has any chance of winning arbitrarily snatched away by some home town clown that looks like nosferatu,it bugs me....

bad for boxing...

and, btw, the bitching might circumvent the possibility of my having a stroke......i`m sure my neighbors(who aren`t all that close to me geographically)knew i was pissed last night...

He's holding the guy down by the back of the head. Even if he's not punching its still illegal. Whats the guy supposed to do if the moron ignores all his warnings? I think it might have been a little excessive but I dont know what youre supposed to do if the guy ignores your warnings. And I saw Raheem try to punch once or twice when he was doing it.

Diaz vs Sim was one of the best fights I've seen. An awesome fight. Sim might fight straight up and be as stiff as a board but I would bet him against any other 135 pounder in the world. Those guys are the best two at 135.
Diaz was awesome last night - I cant believe he can be that good at 20 years old. But I would take both of those guys against Corrales, Freitas, and Cassamayoer.

see frank`s thread above....

why wasn`t he d.q`ed,then?....when have you ever seen more warnings than we saw last night?......were hbo`s OWN announcers wrong?....lederman?...

who wins the fight if JUAREZ is penalized 3 points?...

if it was so bad,why not just d.q. the guy?...you effectively took any chance of winning away from the guy....

why not d.q. him?...

because it wouldn`t fly...

let me ask you this...if the situation had been reversed...and olympian and hbo darling juarez had been handled like raheem was,do you believe there`d be a little more indignation about what happened?....

of course....

they initially had 3 houston judges and a houston ref doing the fight....raheem`s people bitched...what`d they get?...one judge removed....lol...

raheem wasn`t walking out with a win under any circumstances short of a stoppage...he won more rounds....imo...

i blame raheem`s people as much as the crooked duva`s for allowing raheem to be put into a no-win situation...

and almly,i know you aren`t serious about diaz or sim beating corrales, casamayor or freitas.....

possibly all three beat both of these guys....in the same night...

Youre damn right I'm serious and if any of the fights are ever made I'll back it up with money.
That was a great fight last night and both guys fought an unbelievable fight. I agree with you about Sim not bending and moving and making himself a somewhat easy target but the guy is an animal. Diaz fought the fight of his life last night, an awesome performance and thats the only reason he beat him.

I also would bet either of those guys against those three because I think all 3 of those guys are very beatable. Corrales can be outmanned and has a weak chin. If he fights an A level fighter hes done. Freitas can be outboxed. He practically lost to Barrios until he landed that shot a second after the bell rang. Cassamoyer is a tough guy but Diaz and Sim would both overpower him.

You dont give Sim enough credit. The guy cant be knocked out with a crowbar and he has a decent offensive game also. His D needs imporvement but his willpower and offensive skill alone make him tough as hell to beat.

As for Diaz, he might be one of the top 10 P4P fighters in the world now. I cant believe I'd say that about a 20 year old. I know you dont want to get carried away with one performance but I saw a bunch of things from him last night that have me extremely impressed.

If Corrales has a weak chin, so does Diaz. He has ben floored by Ubaldo hernandez and Elezear Contreras. At least Corrales has been dropped by World class guys. Diaz is a decent fighter though. Good handspeed and good workrate. He losses to the top guys right now though

I beg to differ. Youve got to realize that this kid is only 20 and when those fights happened he was going thru a serious learning curve. He's a different fighter now. I'm riding him in his next fight no matter who he's matched up with.

Unless Morales moves up again.

almly...nothing personal ,man....you`re my bud and we can disagree with total respect....... ..but i wasn`t the only one that saw the ineptitude saturday night..........................................

A "ROLD LOOK" AT THE MANY WEEKEND FIGHTS
CLIFF ROLD

DIAZ "ACES HIS FINALS" TO HIGHLIGHT BUSY WEEK

Houston, Texas – Turning pro at age 17, carrying a full load of college classes and winning his first major sanctioning body title belt (WBA) at lightweight posed no problem for the now 20 year old Juan Diaz. Fighting before a hometown crowd, the now 25-0, 12 KO’s) Diaz turned in a star making performance Saturday in unseating a two division titleholder Lavka Sim (19-4-1, 16 KO’s) in the HBO Boxing After Dark card coming to you from the Reliant Center. Still not old enough to buy himself a beer to celebrate, Diaz emerged from the pack in an entertaining HBO triple-header showing poise and technique far beyond his age!

THE "BABY BULL" CHANNELS THE "RAGING BULL"

As his record shows, Diaz does not carry great pop in his gloves while still fighting like a puncher. Much like the great Jake LaMotta (who also rarely won by knockout), Diaz presents the appearance of a face first brawler to crowds while exhibiting incredible technique. Working behind a snapping jab and non-stop combinations, Diaz swept the first three rounds big, leaving Sim to find his spots to counter. In the fourth and perhaps best round of the fight, Diaz and Sim stepped into a phone booth and took turns hammering away with Diaz getting the better of it not only by landing the cleaner shots but by making Sim miss repeatedly with world class head movement.

CAN’T PRAISE THE YOUNG MAN ENOUGH!

The mid rounds saw Sim landing more flush shots, as Diaz seemed to tire only to plant his feet late in the fight and sweep the championship rounds with renewed vigor. Diaz can now look forward to big money opportunities with other alphabet title-holders like Julio Diaz and the winner of Diego Corrales-Acelino Frietas. He also emerged as a legitimate threat to the much slower recognized World lightweight champion Jose Luis Castillo of Mexico.

JUAREZ BESTS ZAHIR, BUT BOTH GUYS LOSE!

In a battle of former Olympians, Houston native and 2000 Olympic silver Medallist Rocky Juarez (21-0, 14 KO’s) scored a unanimous decision over 1996 Olympian Zahir Raheem (25-1, 15 KO’s) in a fight where neither man looked anything but ready for the elite of the division. Raheem at times befuddled Juarez who, as has become habit, seemed unsure of how to get around an opponents jab. And he was easily backed up.

"THE Z-MAN" RAHEEM WASN’T AFFORDED A "FAIR SHOT!"

However, Raheem was unable not to wobble every time Juarez landed flush, including a short knockdown in the fourth when Juarez crashed home his vaunted left hook. In short, the fight with the best pedigree on paper was certainly the disappointment of the night. For those who have felt that I was unfair in blasting the WBC for ranking Juarez above Marco Antonio Barerra, last night was "Exhibit A." It slowly degenerated into a sloppy affair after the knockdown, with Juarez following Raheem around looking confused and Raheem looking distracted. There could be a reason for that…

this was written after i posted my rant...

"""""""""""INEPT OR CROOKED, HOMER REF RUINED SOLID PAIRING!""""""""""""

While it took the HBO team a few rounds to catch on, the performance of Referee Robert Gonzalez was amongst the worst cases of biased officiating one will ever witness. His performance settles nicely beside the abysmal officiating of the Hector Camacho Jr.-Omar Weis fight in 2002, and the recent criminal treatment of Robin Reid in his challenge of Sven Ottke. Someone forgot to tell Gonzalez that NO ONE paid to see him. Although he wasn’t ringside because of illness, Texas Commission head Dick Cole when reached at home, he certainly wasn’t pleased!

OBVIOUS AS HE NEVER TOOK HIS EYES OFF RAHEEM!

Re-watching the tape after the live broadcast, you can see Gonzalez literally follow Raheem with his eyes looking for any infraction. He deducted three points from Raheem for holding behind the head without punching while never admonishing Juarez for holding AND hitting. When breaking the fighters, he always broke pushing Raheem back. When ending rounds, his efforts always were to insure Juarez a comfortable walk to the corner.

TEXAS RANGERS SHOULD "ARREST" REFEREE GONZALEZ!

While he may have been technically correct in at least one-point deduction, the nature of his calls was so one-sided that there is little conclusion that can be reached outside of this…Juarez was not walking out of his hometown without a win Saturday night. Period. The unprofessional and incompetent performance of Gonzalez should give way to his being reprimanded. And maybe this showing could get the Texas Commission to deny a License to the schlep the next time he applies!

I'm not saying that the guy wasnt somewhat biased. I'm saying that I've seen alot worse and that technically I dont think he was in the wrong. Now that piece of sh!t that reffed the Augustus fight and would admonish Augustus after Burton hit him in the back of the head, that guy needs a beating.

And another thing, I am going to come off of the statement I made about riding Diaz against whoever he fights next. I definitely would bet him heavy against the three guys I mentioned but Jose Luis Castillo is one tough motherfuker and there are alot of other guys who I havent seen so for me to say that is kind of dumb.

How many other Sims type guys are out there at 135 that havent been on American tv yet?

Don't think Diaz is ready for the likes of Corrales or Casamajor or Frietas. Loved his
work and focus, but he is still a work in progress. He would be a betting underdog versus
any of those guys, and rightfully so. And the beat goes on.
