For the first time in college football history, two No. 1-ranked teams met during the
regular season: Alabama ranked No. 1 in the USA Today Coaches poll, and LSU ranked
No. 1 in the AP poll.

LSU 46 Alabama 41

LSU...…...10..23..0...13 = 46
Alabama...7...6...7...21 = 41

First Downs: 30....22
Rushing Yards: 166....123
Passing Yards: 393....418
Completions: 31-39....21-40
Return Yards: 39....168
Punts/Average: 4-20.5....3-35.6
Fumbles/Lost: 2-1....2-1
Penalties/Yards: 4-35....7-53
Time Possession: 34:34....25:26

Passing: Burrow 31-39-393-2 tds....Tua 21-40-418-4 tds
Rushing: Edwards 20-103....Harris 19-146
Receiving: Edwards 9-77....Smith 7-213

Summary: Alabama's second half adjustments on offense put them back into a
game they had no business being in, after the way they were outplayed in the first
half. Burrow outplayed Tua (fumble, int) and that was the difference in the ballgame.

*Ohio State trounced Maryland.
*Minnesota beats Penn State despite natural skepticism.
*Clemson all over North Carolina State.
*Baylor just gets by TCU.
*Wisconsin just gets by Iowa.
*Georgia coast past Missouri.
*Florida destroys Vanderbilt.
*Notre Dame way to much for Duke.
*Virginia Tech surprises Wake Forest.
*Texas escapes Kansas State.
*SMU hangs on to beat East Carolina.
*Western Kentucky embarrasses Arkansas.
*Appalachian State embarrasses South Carolina.

Clover, I know you follow Bama pretty good....are you hearing anything about the fall off with the Bama defense the last couple years. You think it's the ever changing coordinator's or just going up against some really great QBs - Watson, Lawrence and Burrow. I never thought I'd see Bama giving up points in the mid 40s

Pathologist and Clover: Forgive me for jumping in. I'm certainly not going to pretend that I have some inside information regarding Alabama's defensive but there is one thing I sense is coming into play now days, especially teams that have good QB's like those you mentioned above, the calls by the officials that are being made seem to favor the offense (the receivers) pertaining to pushing, holding and pass-interference resulting in penalty yardage being walked off which often keep a drive going, hence, more scoring. I also sense the speed these receivers have today makes it difficult for the defensive backs to cover. These high scoring games (46-41) makes the defenses look bad when in fact the offenses might be that good. ............Just my two cents worth.

This year's defense is probably Saban's most average defense since his first season at Alabama. Injuries have forced
five freshman to start and missed assignments and blown coverages have been common this season. Losing pre-season
All-American LB Dylon Moses to injury (lost for season) was huge because he was the QB of the defense. Also, after
losing Kirby Smart, Bama seems to have a new DC every year. With a quick strike offense, the defense played too many
plays by not being able to get off the field.

Mack, the Bama passing game is the best in school history. The QB and three wide receivers will all likely be first-round
draft picks. Unfortunately, the defense isn't on par with past defenses. I hate to say this but this year's defense looks
like a Big 12 unit. I know you haven't but I wouldn't count Alabama out just yet.

I like to give my .02 and you'll probably agree and disagree me on this.

The reason why the defense isnt as good as previous years is b/c this is the best passing game in school's history. For years, Saban has had a "game manager" at qb. He would run the ball and make short to intermediate passes and chew up clock. Once in a while he would throw deep to a stud WR (Julio, Cooper, Ridley, etc).

I have wagered many times on Bama over the years when giving a crap load of points and have had a high rate of succcess. Bama woudnt be covering much at the half but they would grind the whole 2nd half and run down hill. Chew up clock and end with a TD (Henry, Ingram, and Lacy come to mind). Then the well rested defense would come on the field and the opponent would maybe pick up 1 first down at best before turning the ball over or punting. Then the offense would have another long time chewing drive and end up scoring another TD (and would always get my cover with under 5 min left).

The problem now is they have a quick strike offense so the defense is playing more. I have been crappy this season betting on bama. I know i gave pts in the Arky game and was suprised that Bama couldnt put them away (point spread wise). I want to say that i have lost with them another time or 2 this season but just cant recall at the moment.

Regarding injuries, it doesnt phase me. Bama gets stud 4 and 5 star recruits every year so they should be able to play and play now. This isnt 30 years ago where 4 and 5 star recruits would redshirt their freshman year and play for 5 years. This era of kids PLAY as true freshman and if they are not starters after spring football of their freshman year, they enter the transfer portal.

Just my .02. Slam me if you feel like it

Knight, you summed the situation up fairly well.

I don't bet on Alabama or Auburn very often...think I'm 0-2 with Bama
including the LSU game.

Not making excuses but Tua being hurt was huge. Who know, they might
just meet again this season...love to see it.
