KEY STAT: Arsenal have won 12 and drawn one of their 13 Champions League playoff matches

EXPERT VERDICT: Arsenal will be buzzing after securing a last-gasp draw at Everton on Saturday but their only win in three matches this season came with a last goal at home to Crystal Palace. That is not the best of form and Besiktas caused problems in the first game so backing goals could be the value.

RECOMMENDATION: Both teams to score

KEY STAT: Both teams have scored in the last six meetings between the clubs

EXPERT VERDICT: This Yorkshire derby should be a fiery contest but neither team stands out as worth backing so the 90-minute draw looks the best bet. Leeds finished with nine men in the heavy defeat at Watford but there is a big difference between the Hornets and the League One Bantams.

RECOMMENDATION: Draw

The Walker Group Picks

# 2 WED TOO QUICK 8/1

# 6 EVANSVILLE VAN 9/2

# 1 FLICKER DOODLE 3/1

WED TOO QUICK is the top bet in this competition and is a very good value wager given the line. EVANSVILLE VAN - Will most likely be one of the leaders of the bunch going into the midpoint of the contest. Has to be considered - I like the figures from the last outing. FLICKER DOODLE - Will likely be one of the leaders of the group going into the halfway point of the contest. With one of the strongest jockeys in terms of profits at the window, don't count this gelding out.

RECOMMENDED CHOICES

The Walker Group Picks

# 1 MAGGIESFREUDDNSLIP 3/1

# 8 D'BOLDEST 2/1

# 3 MISS TRICKY ME 6/1

I've got to go with MAGGIESFREUDDNSLIP. Campbell will almost certainly be able to get this filly to break out early for this race. Must be given a shot based on the decent speed rating recorded in the last contest. With a nice class figure average of 84, has one of the best class advantages in this field. D'BOLDEST - This filly is coming right back to the track. Has posted reliable Equibase Speed Figures in turf sprint races in the past. MISS TRICKY ME - Has competitive Speed Figures and has to be considered for a wager here.

Delaware - Race #7 - Post: 4:02pm - Optional Claiming - 7.5 furlongs on the Turf. Purse: $33,000 Class Rating: 103

#6 PERFECT MEASURE (ML=8/1)
#4 BRYAN'S JEWEL (ML=9/2)
#3 CASSATT (ML=1/1)
#9 AWESOME MAMA (ML=6/1)
#1 DAYLIGHT RIDE (ML=8/5)

PERFECT MEASURE - Have to give this mare a good chance. Ran a strong effort last out within the last month. BRYAN'S JEWEL - This mare has been trying different distances, but from the looks of things, she ran a nice rating last try at this distance. The horse with the top average Equibase class figure in turf events is usually a solid play. This racer fits the bill. CASSATT - Jones moves this thoroughbred here to Delaware from Monmouth. Looking at the horse's past performance lines, she has shown the ability to win at multiple race tracks. Filly took a little vacation, but has been racing into shape. Recent speed figures show dominant pattern of improvement. AWESOME MAMA - You always have to be on the watch for money making rider/handler duos; we have it right here. DAYLIGHT RIDE - Look for this mare to run much better today. Last event at Parx Racing finishing fourth on the soft turf is no sign of her true talent.

Vulnerable Contenders: #1A GATHERING (ML=8/5), #8 GAME FAIR (ML=3/1), #7 BRENDA'S WAY (ML=4/1),

GATHERING - In any race of 7 1/2 furlongs, I like to wager on a contender that has been looking good in sprint events of late. GAME FAIR - This mare hasn't had any strong finishes in short distance affairs in the last couple of months. BRENDA'S WAY - The finish position of fourth in the last event shows me that this animal may be getting out of condition. The speed fig in the last race doesn't fit very well in this event when I look at the class figure of today's affair. Mark this racer as a questionable challenger.

Top HatGUEST COMMENTARY: Hal - CASSATT - Betting the animal with the best last race speed figure is a good angle. None higher than this filly's last one.

#5 BONETOWN WILD (ML=3/1)
#2 FOUR MORE (ML=6/1)
#7 AMAMAN (ML=6/1)

BONETOWN WILD - This horse ran outside the top 3 at Indiana Downs last time out on a track listed as good. He should improve in today's race under normal track conditions. FOUR MORE - I like to see fast morning blow outs. This colt's last one was very good. Second fastest of the day. Have to like the way Rice has raced this colt back into shape off the layoff. Horse is well spotted in this sprint and I think he'll run well today. AMAMAN - This gelding likes to be near the lead. Today's event is a shorter distance and should aid his winning probability. You'll be generating money left and right by turning your gambling cash onto this jock/trainer combination. Gelding took a little vacation, but has been racing into shape.

Vulnerable Contenders: #6 AWARDING (ML=7/2), #1 VICTORY BRINGER (ML=4/1), #4 RUMBLE (ML=6/1),

AWARDING - Most of the time I need a sprinter to have some recent success in sprint contests in order to play him. VICTORY BRINGER - I cannot play this perpetual non-winner. Gets the task executed once in a while. RUMBLE - Tough for anyone who saw this less than sharp equine in his last event to play him this time out. This gelding recorded a speed figure in his last event which likely isn't good enough in today's event.

STRAIGHT WAGERS:

Put your money on #5 BONETOWN WILD on the nose if you can get odds of 3/1 or more

8½ FURLONGS TURF TWO YEAR OLD FILLIES STAKES $100,000.00 PURSE

#1 ANCIENT GODDESS
#2 SUNDAY SONNET
#4 FLYING TIPAT
#6 RAINHA DA BATERIA

For you folks who enjoy a little Thoroughbred Racing History to accompany your handicapping efforts on this Wednesday afternoon ... this turf race for juvenile fillies was first run in 2005 and was named after Hall of Fame trainer Philip George Johnson, who died the previous year. Johnson, a native of Chicago, bought his first horse in 1942 for $75 and won his first race with him two years later, the first victory in a career than spanned six decades. He was the leading trainer at Saratoga in 1983 and according to the National Museum of Racing, won at least one race each year at the Spa from 1962 to 2003. His biggest career victory came in 2002 with a horse he co-owned named Volponi, who pulled off a 43-1 upset of the Breeders' Cup Classic. The P.G. Johnson Stakes was not run in 2007 or 2008. Here in the 10th running of the P. G. Johnson ... #1 ANCIENT GODDESS, a French-bred entry, and a 4-1 shot, takes a slight class drop (-1), and has hit the board in "POWER RUN FASHION" in both of her two career starts to date, including a "POWER RUN WIN" to break her maiden in her last start. #2 SUNDAY SONNET is also 4-1 in the morning line, and has also hit the board in both of her two career starts to date, including a "POWER RUN WIN" to break her respective maiden in her last start. Jockey Jose Ortiz was in her irons for those two board hit races, and is back this afternoon for his 3rd ride, gunning for back-to-back "Circle Trips."

# 6 BERTOS ANGEL 5/2

# 5 ROMPAWAY ALVIN 8/1

# 4 JULIA'S WAY 6/1

The consensus in this one is that BERTOS ANGEL is the one to beat. Sometimes you just have to go with a feeling, back this one's chances. Overall stats look nice. Can't throw her out of the picture. Take a look at this contender's average speed rating of 84 and compare to today's class rating. Looks like a respectable wager. ROMPAWAY ALVIN - Deserves a shot given the positive win figure he sports. JULIA'S WAY - Had one of the most compelling TrackMaster Speed Ratings of the group of horses in her last contest. Must use in your bets.

# 4 UNCLE BEN 5/2

# 7 TROTTIN TRICE 9/2

# 5 SPEEDY SAMADHI 8/1

UNCLE BEN will have you running to the cashier's window this time. Exhibits the look of a profitable play, averaging a rather good 79 speed figure. If effort in the last race is any indication, this harness racer will have a very competitive shot in this event. High last race TrackMaster Speed Rating. TROTTIN TRICE - This nice horse has been making trips to the winner's circle on a routine basis, look for him to make another appearance soon. This horse has shown us ability in its prior races, just look at the 79 avg class rating. Should play well in this contest. SPEEDY SAMADHI - This interesting entrant will be greatly helped with Campbell driving. 25 percent winners this last month. Loved this gelding's last race. Ran a solid 62 TrackMaster speed fig. Major player.

DRF HARNESS

Race 6 - $10,000 Guaranteed Pick Four Pool

Best Bet (34 - 60 / $138.80): DAKOTA ROADSTER (1st)

Spot Play: BUBBA TELLS ALL (3rd)

Race 1

In a field with few contenders (3) DAKOTA ROADSTER has the look of a good one and a big late kick. (6) EARNDAWG also has a ton of ability and has been progressing nicely. (5) CATCH THE WAVE has a ton of upside in the field owning a quality win.

Race 2

(6) FRONTIER CODY Indiana bred colt makes his career debut in a wide open field coming off a solid qualifier. (3) GUMCORNER SUE has been trotting faster than most of the field and just needs a smooth trip to hit the ticket. (2) ROSEANNE filly makes her third start back off a layoff with a better pilot.

Race 3

(1) BUBBA TELLS ALL will need some racing luck with the low percentage pilot but has flashed ability in a weak field. (6) PATHOLOGIST faces much weaker competition and will be used aggressively. (3) C NOTE well bred colt could be ready for an improved effort off a solid career debut.

Race 4

(8) WESTERN COWGIRL has yet to win in sixteen starts on the year but drops in for a tag; threat. (9) ODDS ON ROLOMITE well bred filly raced gamely last out and is one of few in the race with upside. (6) OCEAN GIRL two-year-old faces older and needs more to hit the top spot; use underneath.

Race 5

(2) SKYWAY BILLY is a proven winner in a suspect field and could offer good value. (5) JOEL'S Z TAM two-year-old pacer tried his best to upset the heavy favorite last start only to come up short. The colt has tons of room to improve and showed heart last out. (1) MIGHTY HOT SHOT gets the best post off a nice first effort.

Race 6

(9) RUSSELL L looks terrible on paper but the 11-year-old veteran could upset at a price if he races back to a prior effort. (2) EAGLE A SCOOTIN is just rounding back into racing shape but rarely wins; command a price. (6) HEARTLAND LIBERTY has been pacing consistent miles but doesn't like to pass late.

Race 7

(3) BOBBY B BREEZE has lacked stamina late but should be able to handle this field. (2) SPEEDY ALBER gelding has ability and is capable of going a big effort. (1) STONEBRIDGE ULTIMO well bred trotter gets the best post off a really nice victory.

Race 8

(1) ONE LOUD DING is very inconsistent but one of his better efforts puts him in the mix. (10) JOYFUL GAME is better than the field if the low percentage pilot can work out a trip. (9) MS SOLOONGBYEBYE has been on the improve and will be firing early.

Race 9

In a tough race to gauge (7) FOUR HOUR NAP never had a chance last out from a tough post but should be much closer turning for home. (5) KENDYL mare goes for red hot connections that can't be left of your tickets. (8) KITTY O'BRIEN actually benefits from the outside post and will be the main danger with fast fractions; fires late.

At the Gate - Wednesday
By Mike Dempsey

We enter the last week of the Saratoga meeting with just six betting days left. Several times over the last month, I described trainer Todd Pletcher as “well on his way to winning his 11th Saratoga training title.”

Did I speak to soon?

Pletcher’s lead in the trainer standings is down to four, 22 to 18 over Chad Brown, who got off to a slow start at the meeting. However, the real news is how Pletcher’s horses have been performing recently. Pletcher has gone winless with his last 25 starters.

He is still winning at a 20% clip at the meeting, with 22 winners from 109 starters, but Brown is closing in.

Brown has won 18 races from his 80 starters, winning at a 23% clip. While Pletcher went 0 for 25 since Aug. 17, Brown has won with seven of his 22 starters to close the gap.

Each trainer has one starter in on Wednesday, with Pletcher saddling March Creek (2-1) in the second race while Brown will send out Partisan Politics (5-1) in the third race.

Today’s feature is the $100,000 P.G. Johnson, a 1 1/16 mile test on turf that will go off as race three. The race drew a field of seven juvenile fillies.

Here is today’s second race (the opener is a steeplechase) from Saratoga to get the day off to a good start:

SAR Race 2 Md $75,000 (1:00 ET)
5 Sherifco 9-5
2 March Creek 2-1
1 Hi Speed Chase 10-1
6 Alexndeed 5-1

Analysis: Sherifco gets off the rail where the colt had a terrible trip last out in his debut. He broke a step slow, was bumped hard by a foe leaving the backstretch and had to check hard, came with a five bid and ran out of gas in the stretch in a fifth place finish. The $190,000 Ocala buy just needs a better trip as he drops in for a tag here for the Terranova barn. The colt is out of a Valid Appeal mare that has dropped four winners. The barn is 12% winners (with a +ROI) with second out maidens.

March Creek tracked the early pace, came with a four wide bid around the far turn and weakened to finish fourth in his debut for Pletcher, beaten three lengths. He was sent off at 13-1 and the longest price in a six horse field and we don't see that often from this barn. He earned a solid number in his debut and drops in for a tag. Pletcher hits at a 28% clip with second out maidens.

Wagering
WIN: #5 to win at 8-5 or better.
EX: 2,5 / 1,2,5
TRI: no play

Today’s Featured Race of the Day from Saratoga:

SAR Race 8 Alw $25,000s (4:16 ET)
6 Manchurian High 3-1
7 Sayler's Creek 7-2
4 Treasury Devil 5-1
9 Media Kid 6-1

Analysis: Manchurian High was only beaten a nose and a neck last out in a third place finish in the John's Call at 1 5/8 miles and has earned back to back career tops facing stakes company. The gelding beat Alw-3 optional claimers three back in his first start after the Fair Hill based Kurtinecz barn took over. The trainer is showing just six winners from 45 starters dating back three years, mostly with steeplechase runners. This gelding looks like a god fit here facing $25,000 starter allowance foes that are non-winners of one other than.

Sayler's Creek has won five of his last seven starts, last out beating $16,000 starter allowance foes going nine furlongs on the turf at Philly. The fourth place finisher Turbin exited that race to come back and beat $Alw-2 optional claimers at Penn in his next start on Aug. 8. The colt has good tactical speed and comes in here very sharp for the Maker barn that has been sending out live runners recently.

Wagering
WIN: #6 to win at 5-2 or better.
EX: 6,7 / 4,6,7,9
TRI: 6,7 / 4,6,7,9 / 4,6,7,8,9

Live Longshots:
These are price plays for exotic players looking to find a couple of extra contenders to use in their trifecta and superfecta wagers. Or for those with smaller bankrolls, you might want to get in a small win-place wager.
