KEY STAT: Iran's last six matches have featured only five goals

EXPERT VERDICT: Bosnia's first World Cup campaign ended in disappointment with a defeat to Nigeria but they can gain some compensation by beating Iran. The Iranians may struggle to replicate their brilliant performance against Argentina and Bosnia forward Vedad Ibisevic could take advantage if he gets a start after two lively substitute appearances.

RECOMMENDATION: V Ibisevic first goalscorer

KEY STAT: Argentina have conceded only one goal in their last seven internationals

EXPERT VERDICT: Nigeria gave a vastly-improved display in their 1-0 win over Bosnia, having struggled for fluency in the goalless draw with Iran, and they can give Argentina a good game. The favourites rode their luck in their 1-0 win over Iran but their extra quality up front should prove decisive.

RECOMMENDATION: Argentina 2-1

KEY STAT: Honduras have won just one of their last nine matches

EXPERT VERDICT: Honduras have put a huge amount of effort into their first two games without taking any points and may have very little left to give when they take on Switzerland in Manaus. The Swiss defended dreadfully in their 5-2 loss to France but looked decent going forward and can expose the gaps in a dodgy Honduran rearguard.

KEY STAT: Ecuador have not kept a clean sheet in their last seven fixtures

EXPERT VERDICT: Few teams impressed as much as France in the opening two rounds of fixtures and Les Bleus can maintain their 100 per cent record with an easy win over Ecuador. France have looked devastating on the counter-attack and should soon expose the Ecuadorian defence which gave up plenty of chances during the 2-1 win over Honduras.

RECOMMENDATION: France

Bosnia-Hz. V Iran

[h=2]2014 FIFA WORLD CUP[/h]
  • Venue: Arena Fonte Nova, Salvador
  • Date: Wednesday 25 June
  • Kick-off:17:00 BST

[h=2]TEAM NEWS[/h]Bosnia-Hercegovina boss Safet Susic may opt to recall striker Vedad Ibisevic, who began their first two matches on the bench.
The tournament debutants have been eliminated but will target their first World Cup points.
Iran coach Carlos Queiroz is unlikely to make many changes following their impressive display in the 1-0 defeat to Argentina.
The Iranians must win to have any chance of reaching the last 16.
[h=2]MATCH PREVIEW[/h]Iran coach Carlos Queiroz claimed the referee in their defeat to Argentina should have trouble sleeping after failing to award his side a penalty.
Bosnia-Hercegovina coach Safet Susic, meanwhile, may have himself endured a few restless nights after criticism in the Bosnian media that he is to blame for their early exit.
Susic favoured cavalier tactics in qualifying, usually fielding an attack-minded 4-4-2 diamond formation. But the 59-year-old changed tack in the build-up to this tournament, dropping Stuttgart striker Vedad Ibisevic to play a cautious 4-2-3-1 system.
So far that switch has blunted their cutting edge - they have had 36 attempts at goal but scored only one, coincidentally netted by Ibisevic as a substitute.
Susic's surprising decision to drop highly-rated Schalke left-back Sead Kolasinac against Nigeria also backfired, with the Super Eagles' winner originating from that flank.

He is expected to field a more attacking line-up in Salvador as his side target a first World Cup win before they head home.
Iran have yet to score a World Cup goal this summer, but Queiroz's well-drilled side approach this match with a realistic, if outside, chance of reaching the last 16.
They will go through if they win and Nigeria lose and the winning margin in either game is greater than one.
However, a 1-0 win for Iran coupled with a 1-0 defeat for the Super Eagles would leave the two sides completely level, and mean their fate would be decided by the drawing of lots.
[h=2]MATCH FACTS[/h]Head-to-head

  • Iran are unbeaten in five meetings with Bosnia-Hercegovina between 2001 and 2009, having notched four wins and a draw.
  • Iran were reportedly the first national team to play Bosnia-Hercegovina, in a friendly match back in 1993. The Bosnians emerged 3-1 victors in Tehran, although the match was not officially registered as the Bosnian Football Federation was not yet a member of Fifa.
Bosnia-Hercegovina

  • They have kept one clean sheet in their last six games.
  • Bosnia-Hercegovina have lost back-to-back competitive games for the first time since Safet Susic took charge.
  • They have attempted 36 shots (including blocked efforts) in Brazil, but scored only once.
Iran

  • Eleven of the last 12 World Cup goals conceded by Iran have been scored in the second half.
  • The Iranians are winless in their last six World Cup games (D2, L4).
  • At this World Cup they have won 50% of headers in the opposition penalty area, with 42% of their shots coming from headers. Both ratios are amongst the highest of sides competing in Brazil.
  • Iran attempted just 130 passes against Argentina, the fewest in a World Cup game since 1966 (as far back as this data goes). Argentina made 512.

Nigeria v Argentina

[h=2]2014 FIFA WORLD CUP[/h]
  • Venue: Estadio Beira-Rio, Porto Alegre
  • Date: Wednesday 25 June
  • Kick-off:17:00 BST

[h=2]TEAM NEWS[/h]Nigeria centre-back Godfrey Oboabona says he has recovered from the ankle injury that ruled him out of the victory against Bosnia-Hercegovina.
However, coach Stephen Keshi may be reluctant to change a winning team and could keep faith with Joseph Yobo, who is set to win his 100th cap.
Argentina are already through to the last 16 and could rest key players.
Left-back Marcos Rojo is one booking from a suspension and is likely to be replaced by Jose Basanta.
[h=2]MATCH PREVIEW[/h]Argentina may already be assured of their place in the next round, but there's still plenty at stake for Alejandro Sabella's side as they take on familiar rivals Nigeria.
Defeat would mean the Super Eagles usurp them and win the group, almost certainly leaving Argentina with a tricky game against in-form France in the last 16, potentially followed by a quarter-final with old foes Germany.
A point would ensure the South American side top Group F,probably setting up a knockout game against either Switzerland or Ecuador. But the two-time champions will be eager to end the group stage with a third successive win and, if at all possible, an improved performance.
Sabella's side have been indebted to two pieces of Lionel Messi magic in laboured victories against Bosnia-Hercegovina and Iran.
Messi, who celebrated his 27th birthday on Tuesday, has so far been the only member of the much-vaunted "Fantastic Four" to shine in Brazil.

Sergio Aguero, Gonzalo Higuain and Angel Di Maria will have to raise their game if the Argentines are to justify their status as pre-tournament second favourites.
The Super Eagles need a point to go through, while their result will be irrelevant if Iran fail to beat Bosnia-Hercegovina.
They have plenty of World Cup history against the Argentines - this is their fifth World Cup campaign, and the fourth time they have faced the South American heavyweights.
They have lost all three previous meetings but only by a single-goal margin. And given the Super Eagles are the only side yet to concede a World Cup goal in Brazil, it could be another frustrating 90 minutes for Argentina and their army of supporters.
[h=2]MATCH FACTS[/h]Head-to-head

  • Nigeria have lost all three previous World Cup encounters with Argentina, all of which were in the group stage.
  • They were also defeated by Paraguay in the group stage of the 1998 World Cup, meaning they have lost all four of their World Cup games against South American opposition.
  • Including friendlies, the Super Eagles have won just one of six games against Argentina. That was a 4-1 victory in Abuja, when the visitors fielded an unfamiliar line-up.
  • Argentina also beat Nigeria in the final of the 2005 Under-20 World Cup and the gold-medal match at the 2008 Olympics.
Nigeria

  • Victory against Bosnia-Hercegovina gave Nigeria their first win in 10 World Cup games (W1, D3, L6).
  • They attempted 20 shots (including blocked efforts) against the Bosnians, although 14 were from long range.
  • Joseph Yobo is set for his 100th cap - and will become the first Nigerian to reach the landmark.
  • The Super Eagles are the only side who have yet to concede at this tournament. They have gone 221 minutes without conceding a World Cup goal since South Korea's Park Chu-Young scored against them in 2010.
Argentina

  • Argentina have won 11 of their last 14 World Cup group games (D2, L1), scoring 27 goals and conceding just five.
  • They have won four of five World Cup games against African opposition. Their only defeat was their first match in that sequence, a 1-0 loss to Cameron in 1990.
  • Lionel Messi has scored 22 goals in his last 22 games for Argentina.
  • Messi had just one touch inside the penalty area against Iran.

Ecuador v France

[h=2]2014 FIFA WORLD CUP[/h]
  • Venue: Estadio do Maracana, Rio de Janeiro
  • Date: Wednesday 25 June
  • Kick-off: 21:00 BST

[h=2]TEAM NEWS[/h]Ecuador have no reported injury concerns and could be unchanged from the side that beat Honduras.
Enner Valencia, Juan Carlos Paredes, Jefferson Montero and Antonio Valencia are all one booking from a ban.
Mamadou Sakho limped out of France's win over Switzerland with a thigh problem and is unlikely to be risked, while fellow defender Raphael Varane has been laid low by gastroenteritis.
Yohan Cabaye serves a one-match ban for collecting two yellow cards.
[h=2]MATCH PREVIEW[/h]It is clearly going to require something a bit special to banish Les Blues from this World Cup. Four years after they ended a mutinous campaignby finishing winless and bottom of the table, France are generating overwhelmingly positive headlines.
"We Love These Blues" was Le Parisien newspaper's response to the national side's sumptuous attacking football in the 5-2 dismantling of Switzerland last Friday. Sports daily L'Equipe opted for the simple front-page headline "Vertiginous", encapsulating the fact that France's rise has been a sudden one.
After all, it was only seven months ago that L'Equipe had asked: "Is this the worst French team in history?"

That question was posed following the 2-0 defeat by Ukraine in the first leg of their World Cup play-off. France, of course, won the second leg 3-0 and the players admit that everything has clicked ever since.
The switch to 4-3-3 has been an obvious factor, and coach Didier Deschamps has clearly helped instil some va va voom, as well as much-needed harmony, among his talented players.
France are now fourth favourites to win the World Cup but everyone in the French camp has been at pains to quell the growing expectation of the team. Even the president of the French Football Federation, Noel Le Graet, has said "France can't be too arrogant and say we're above this team or that…the team is very young and hasn't totally proved itself yet."
They only need a point against Ecuador to guarantee qualification as group winners. Ecuador could lose and still progress but are likely to have to beat France, and Deschamps is wary of dismissing the South American side.
"Who would think that Costa Rica would have six points, in the group they're in? No-one," he said. "Other teams have been doing well here, not just us."
France have scored 39 goals in 11 games, including eight so far at the World Cup, and Ecuador midfielder Christhian Noboa said: "Scoring a goal in a World Cup is difficult, scoring eight gives you a guide to what France are all about."
[h=2]MATCH PREVIEW[/h]Head-to-head

  • France won 2-0 in the only previous meeting, a friendly in 2008 in Grenoble. Current Ecuador squad members Walter Ayovi and Antonio Valencia started that game while Patrice Evra of France came on at half-time.
  • France are unbeaten in six World Cup matches against South American opposition since a 2-1 defeat by Argentina in 1978. The French haven't conceded a goal in the last five of those subsequent encounters.
Ecuador

  • Ecuador are vying to advance from the group stage for the second time in three attempts. They reached the last 16 on their most recent appearance in 2006 before losing 1-0 to England.
  • This is coach Reinaldo Rueda's 50th match in charge of Ecuador. He has won 20 of his 49 games in charge, drawing 15 and losing 14.
  • They have gone seven matches without keeping a clean sheet.
  • Enner Valencia has scored seven goals in his last six matches for Ecuador, including three in two games at this World Cup. He needs one more goal to surpass Agustin Delagado as Ecuador's all-time top World Cup goalscorer.
  • Luis Saritama could earn his 50th cap.
France

  • France have gone seven successive games without defeat (W6, D1) for the first time since a 23-match streak between 2010 and 2012.
  • They have scored three or more goals in consecutive World Cup matches for the first time since the 1998 group stage.
  • Didier Deschamps' side can win their three group matches for only the second World Cup. They previously did so as the host nation in 1998, when they went on to win the tournament.
  • The last five times France reached the knockout stage, they at least reached the semi-finals.
  • Karim Benzema has scored nine goals in his last eight appearances for France.
  • Mathieu Valbuena has created six goalscoring chances for France in their two games so far. He created more goalscoring chances than any other player in the French top flight during 2013-14 (90).

Honduras V Switzerland

[h=2]2014 FIFA WORLD CUP[/h]
  • Venue: Arena Amazonia, Manaus
  • Date: Wednesday 25 June
  • Kick-off: 21:00 BST

[h=2]TEAM NEWS[/h]Honduras midfielder Wilson Palacios is available after a ban and is expected to return in place of Jorge Claros.
There could be a recall for winger Andy Najar, with Honduras having to win to stand any chance of qualifying.
Switzerland coach Ottmar Hitzfeld must make an enforced change after defender Steve von Bergen suffered a fractured cheekbone in the defeat by France.
His replacement in that game, Philippe Senderos, looked ill at ease and so Hitzfeld could turn to Fabian Schaer.
[h=2]MATCH PREVIEW[/h]It was four years ago to the day of this match that Switzerland and Honduras ground out a 0-0 draw in their final World Cup group game, ensuring they finished third and fourth respectively in the table.
They find themselves occupying those same positions ahead of this game, but both still harbour hopes of reaching the last 16.
Switzerland coach Ottmar Hitzfeld insists there will be no repeat of his side's failure to qualify in South Africa. His side went into the 2010 meeting with Honduras having beaten Spain and needing a two-goal win to progress to the knockout stage. However, they seldom looked capable of breaking down the stubborn Central Americans.
"We will win this time, it is that simple," said Hitzfeld. "I am convinced that we have a lot more potential now in our offence. We have scored four goals in this World Cup already. So I am confident that we can score goals against Honduras, too."

That may be the case, but Switzerland's 5-2 defeat by France exposed previously unseen defensive frailties.
Switzerland, of course, are the seeded nation in Group E and ranked sixth in the world. If this is their last game in Brazil, it will mark a hugely disappointing send off for Hitzfeld, who is retiring.
"Actually I haven't thought about that yet, that it could be my last game," said Hitzfeld, who won 19 major trophies as a club manager. "But I believe it won't be my last."
Honduras lost their first two games but can still qualify if they beat Switzerland, France overcome Ecuador and there's a minimum four-goal swing in favour of the Central American side.
It seems an unlikely possibility but striker Carlo Costly is not giving up on the dream, especially as Honduras ought to benefit from the heat and humidity in the Amazonian city of Manaus. Costly said: "We're still hopeful and we've got faith that everything will turn out well, that's what we're clinging on to."
[h=2]MATCH FACTS[/h]Head-to-head

  • The only previous meeting between these nations was the goalless draw at the 2010 World Cup.
Honduras

  • Honduras have only won one of their last nine matches (W1, D3, L5).
  • They await their first World Cup victory, having drawn three and lost five of the previous eight.
  • They have played more matches at the World Cup without winning than any other side.
  • Carlo Costly's goal against Ecuador in their last game is the only one that Honduras have scored in their last 569 minutes of World Cup action.
Switzerland

  • Switzerland suffered only their second defeat in 20 matches when they lost 5-2 to France last time out (W13, D5, L2).
  • They conceded as many goals in that game as they had in their previous nine World Cup matches. It is their biggest defeat under Ottmar Hitzfeld, who took charge after Euro 2008.
  • Three of Switzerland's four goals at this tournament so far have come in the final 10 minutes of the match.
  • Tranquillo Barnetta has played seven World Cup matches and is one appearance shy of equalling Swiss record holder Charles Antenen.

Belmont - Race #1 - Post: 1:20pm - Maiden Claiming - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $29,000 Class Rating: 70

Rating: Golden DollarGolden DollarGolden DollarGolden Dollar

#8 LANE ALLEN (ML=7/2)

LANE ALLEN - As the only speedy sort in the race, I expect this gelding to be long gone. Look for this gelding to show better in this event. Last affair at Belmont finishing eighth on the soft turf is no sign of his true talent. This gelding recorded a strong rating of 49 in his last clash. That figure should be lofty enough to score today. Maiden is moving to the dirt, and may not have liked the turf last out. Has a good chance to win for the first time.

Vulnerable Contenders: #7 SEE YA (ML=5/2), #3 WILD SKYE (ML=4/1), #1 GIULIO CESARI (ML=5/1),

SEE YA - Doesn't appear to have enough positive aspects to support the reward. WILD SKYE - He showed not much at all in the last race. When scrutinizing today's Equibase class figure, he will have to earn a much better speed figure than last time around the track to compete in this dirt sprint. GIULIO CESARI - On a downward spiraling sequence. Speed figs keep lessening. Awfully tough to wager on this pony when he hasn't been showing any indications of eagerness of late.

Top HatGUEST COMMENTARY: Winston - LANE ALLEN - This gelding takes a big tumble in the class figure department from a rating of 78 down to 70. Strong contender.

#2 K C KACEY (ML=5/2)
#4 OUT OF SPELLS (ML=9/5)

K C KACEY - This event sets up for this mare. I call this the 'Lone Stalker' scenario. When the real running starts, she'll be in perfect position. When this rider and trainer team up you have to take a look. Santiagoreyes and Magee have been fantastic together. Have to make this mare a serious competitor; she comes off a sharp outing on Jun 6th. I usually like playing sprinters who are 3-4 races into a return to racing. OUT OF SPELLS - The jock/trainer duo of Cintron and Brown has a strong ROI together. Was in a $20,000 Claiming race at Delaware last time out. That affair had a class rating of 71 and she is moving down right here in this race. A certain strong challenger. I like to see fast workouts. This filly's last one was very good. Second fastest of the day. I think that a sprinter coming off a layoff will usually run her best in the 3rd or 4th start back.

Vulnerable Contenders: #7 ERZULIE DANTOR (ML=5/1), #8 FOUR STAR PRINCESS (ML=6/1),

ERZULIE DANTOR - Usually I need a sprinter to have some success lately in short distance contests in order to wager on her. This pony ran a mediocre speed rating last time around the track. She shouldn't run better and will probably get beat today running that figure. FOUR STAR PRINCESS - You believe this horse is going to win just because she's always close. Just doesn't win frequently. When scrutinizing today's class figure, she will have to register a much better speed rating than in the last race to be competitive in this dirt sprint.

Top HatGUEST COMMENTARY: Winston - K C KACEY - I scan the TrackMaster Platinum PPs for this type of horse. Has the top TM Power Rating by at least 5 points.

RECOMMENDED CHOICES
The Walker Group Picks

# 3 LA MAXIMA 8/5

# 4 MI ANGELITO 2/1

# 5 AIMI C. 5/2

I think LA MAXIMA is a quite good choice. Reason to like this filly as she has in the saddle one of the best jocks using winning percentages over the last 30 days. Diaz will probably be able to get this filly to break out sharply in this event. With a respectable 64 speed figure last time out, will clearly be a factor in this contest. MI ANGELITO - Is a strong contender based on figures earned as of late under today's conditions. Looks decent to be up near the front end at the first call. AIMI C. - Handler boasts solid win figures at this distance and surface.

RECOMMENDED CHOICES
The Walker Group Picks

# 9 REALLY A DASHER 5/2

# 3 MISS KITTY ZOOM 7/2

# 1 SOLD ON DYNASTY 4/1

REALLY A DASHER is my choice. Horses who have been prepared to race at this distance and surface by Skeen have shown strong results recently. Will most likely be one of the leaders of the pack going into the halfway point of the race. Has to be considered a key contender on earnings per start at the distance/surface alone. MISS KITTY ZOOM - Should be carefully examined based on the solid Equibase Speed Figure put up in the last competition. Hoburg has this filly running well and is a decent selection based on the strong Equibase Speed Figs put up in short races recently. SOLD ON DYNASTY - Vaunts sound Equibase Speed Figures on average overall when matched with the rest of this group of animals. Looks competitive against this group and should be one of the front-runners.

Jockey Irad Ortiz was in her irons for that last win 33 days ago here at Belmont Park, and is back today for another ride, gunning for back-to-back "Circle Trips!"

#2 PONTUAL (ML=8/1)
#6 MY NAME IS JAKE (ML=8/1)
#1 HATHRAAN (ML=8/1)

PONTUAL - Ran last race out against a high class rated field at Gulfstream. The move down the class ladder should suit him well. Pilares and Caramori perform well when they join forces. Hard to beat a win percent of 35. MY NAME IS JAKE - You always have to be on the watch for money generating jock/handler teams; we have it right here. HATHRAAN - Have to give this gelding a shot. Ran a sharp outing in the last race within the last month.

Vulnerable Contenders: #9 METZ (ML=2/1), #8 MUVNON (ML=4/1), #5 BEARLY SPECIFIC (ML=9/2),

METZ - Can't wager on this steed in today's sprint of 7 1/2 furlongs. Hasn't even finished in the money in a sprint event of late. This favorite hasn't been to the track in awhile. No morning activity since last race. Can't really back the favorite when he has multiple failures as the public's choice. MUVNON - Generally I need a sprinter to have some recent success in sprint contests in order to bet on him. Equibase speed figures of 83/73/62 are going on a downward course. BEARLY SPECIFIC - 9/2 odds isn't enough for this horse when looking at the most recent showings. No picnic to bet on this entrant this time. Make him show you something in a sprint race before you wager on him in a race of 7 1/2 furlongs.

Top HatGUEST COMMENTARY: The Turf Man - PONTUAL - Your best betting opportunity is with this gelding. He holds the best average class rating. Always a plus on turf.

# 7 KATE CAN'T WAIT 3/1

# 1 SURFSIDE SEXY 5/2

# 5 UPFRONT BAD GIRL 9/2

Really keen on the chance of KATE CAN'T WAIT taking down the winner's share in this one. Cannot put a finger on it, but back this filly for a wager. SURFSIDE SEXY - Feel the need for speed, this solid standardbred has been turning in some top notch speed ratings averaging around 78. With a 79 average class number, this contender has one of the top class advantages in the field. UPFRONT BAD GIRL - Her 81 avg has this filly among the best TrackMaster speed figs this time. A good class horse should not be be overlooked. With an avg class number of 79 all signs point to yes.

# 3 JK LULLABYE 3/1

# 4 IT WAS AN HONOR 2/1

# 5 WAINUI TABMAN N 4/1

Look no further than JK LULLABYE as the bet in this one. Cannot put a finger on it, but get behind this gelding for a bet. Enters this race with formidable TrackMaster class statistics relative to the race - worth a look. Should be in the hunt again this time, looking to add to that already high lifetime winning pct. IT WAS AN HONOR - Has good speed ratings and positively has to be thought of for a wager for this one. Could most likely take this field of starters given the 78 TrackMaster Speed Rating recorded in his most recent race. WAINUI TABMAN N - Feel the need for speed, this race horse has been turning in some top notch TrackMaster SRs averaging around 79.
