Was that not the worst coaching of the season by W. Michigan??

They literally chewed the play clock the whole fourth when losing by 2 scores. They shortened the game by limiting possessions. That row the boat coach has a lot of enthusiasm but his clock management was the worst I've seen all year at any level of football. It seemed like everyone knew what was going on but him.

Incredible.
But Wisky clearly was not fired up for this game. That helped. They could have thrown more and chose not to unless they needed a first down.
But the WM IMO coach just wanted to make sure it was respectful, feared a blowout, so played it that way. He goddam ran out the clock down 14. WM fumbled I think 4 (w punt) times and miraculously recovered all 4. And that pop fly pass on 4th down was miraculous, too, accomplished Wisky DB's stood there and acted like they never saw a football before.
I got a push and am grateful.
If they played again tomorrow I would not bet on that crap again.

When you're demolishing cupcakes all season you never learn how to play when you get behind. Took 4 miracles to get that as close as 8. Two fumbles, a miraculous catch and a 3rd down conversion by Wisky late on a play that 90% of the time is either a TD or a stop that leads to a FG.

Its like they shortened the game just so they wouldn't get killed. When they went up tempo in the first half, they tired Wisconsin out some.

I hVe posted several posts about this. WM abandoned what got them here....spread out the field and up tempo passing. It's incredible how you run the play clock down to 0 while being down 2 scores. Their last drive chewed 9 minutes off the clock. Dumbest coaching job ever.

WMU is much like Wisky. Work the clock and own time of possession. They arent a quick paced fast fast fast team

that doesnt mean you cant prepare for such occasions and go fast when necessary. They clearly ran too much time off the clock there.

but as an above poster said. Lucky to have been there with all the fumbles and the rainbow pass TD late in the 4th.

They also gave Wiscy a pick inside their own red zone leading to 7 for Wisconsin.

Agree with above they aren't a fast paced spread team. They needed 2 scores, if you don't get the first one it doesn't matter how much time is left. They made it a one score game, get a stop and you have plenty of time. Forced a 3rd and long, didn't stop them.

No no problem with the strategy. Defense needed to make a play and didn't.

I don't agree Biz. If you manage the clock the way he did you are putting ALL your eggs in one basket aka 2 drives. By going up tempo based on situational football, you increase the amount of possessions in the game. For instance, yes your D has to make some key stops but you have more possessions to get back in the game. What they did was basically say we are going to continue to chew and play our style and rely on 1 last possession hoping our D gets the stop and then hoping our O can score. When Wisconsin had been abusing them with running attack for majority of the game. IMO you have to go up tempo based on the situation and extend the game

Western Mich had 3 possessions in first half. 1 possession in the fourth quarter (not smart when losing)

And if they get away from what they are successful at, and don't score, it doesn't matter.

Bottom line is they had a 3rd and 8 situation. Get a stop and you get it back with a chance to tie the game. Offense did what they had to, defense couldn't stop a 3rd and 8.
