Here i am trying to watch the Pete Rose movie last night on ESPN (which I found entertaining, even though I knew the story)....So , I'm trying to watch the movie , which started at 9pm, meanwhile I'm in full " college football saturday evening gambing mode", f;ipping back and forth and watching 5 games on the scoreline, all wired from the frantic pace of the day, the two late tough beats....I'm trying to decide if I should bet the Minn/NW game because if I bet that it will be hard to focus on the movie,lol....I was watching the Rose movie when it occured to me, what's the real difference between what Pete did and what any of us do on a daily basis....I mean, he did have other problems because he was the Reds manager, but a gambler is a gambler....I just felt the movie really made me think some about my own gambling habits.....Then after it ended I went back to watching the late games lol  :drink: :breakit:

Those on this forum are used to gambling and are desensitized to it, and live with it as part of our lives and routine. You go outside of gambling circles though and talk to people who aren't involved in gambling, and you will get a wide range of reactions. People don't know it like we do, and they entertain all kinds of misconceptions. Some people think that gambling is on par with cocaine addition, and that it will automatically ruin your life. Women especially aren't fond of their men gambling.

What Pete did that big of a deal with us, because we do the same thing all the time. But we're a small minority and you have to keep that in mind. A lot of people in the non-gambling world freakout when it comes to gambling. What Rose did in baseball circles is unforgivable.

Was it that Pete DIDN'T have the money to pay back his losses or he just liekd to be difficult about givign the money up? That i was jus not sure about.

Anyway, good thing he didn't do this starting in about 1998 or so, he could have bet undetected via the internet for god knows how long...

Only his personal paper trail gave him away.
