so when Romney said in 2012 "that Russia is an enemy", the least prepared man in the room should not have mocked him with his condescending "the 80's want their policy back" remark

I hope Trump realizes that Russia/Putin is not our friend/cannot be our friend but unfortunately, I don't think that is the case.

Thought provoking question Scott. As I see it that would be an issue
to be handled directly by NATO. As a member I'm sure we would have our
2 cents worth to contribute but all members would need to come together.

I don't see that happening. If Crimea is an indication of what would happen
then Russia would increase the size of their country by 50 miles.

If it were me making the call it would be Unus pro omnibus, omnes pro uno
or nothing. God helps those that help themselves would be my motto.

his country becomes isolated, severe economic sanctions, his people suffer and he loses from within

I personally don't think he chooses the path you speak of, I think he knows the importance of trade and aide and peace

but if he becomes the renegade you speak of, doing nothing is not the answer
