I'm retired, just over 60 yrs. of age. I'm on a fixed income. Va is still cheaper than Nevada and less crime rate in this area.

I play so small but enjoy it more than be explained! Sports and horses.

I'm as honest as can be. I don't want to hurt anyone $ (dollar wise) nor be hurt $ wise. I want to pay evey penny when I lose and and the same in return.
I pay a very reasonable rent here. Am sure Nevada, would HOSE me. I don't listen to teens play guitars at 11pm with loudspeakers attached nor young couples fighting next door, about whatever.

Something has got to change with this nonsense!

LV Is A Young Man's Town

The traffic and lifestyle pace are frenetic. Coming from a bucolic setting in Va., to that madhouse would be tough IMO. Have you ever been there? If the only reason you're thinking about the move is for the gaming, I'd think twice. What about family? And don't forget the incredible heat out there. Maybe you should try it for 6 mos., there are a lot of places w/6 mos leases. If you were younger I'd say go for it. I've spent 4-5 mos there about 10 times in my early 50's into my 60's. I sure couldn't do it now. Surprisingly when I first went out there the COL was cheaper than Mn.! Rent & food were not bad. It's the gambling that can get expensive. And you have to have other things to do, rather than spend 16hrs a day in a casino. Are you going alone? BOL to you!

Vegas is a pretty boring/pathetic place if you remove gambling from the equation. In fact, take out the Las Vegas Strip and Downtown and it's a sad, depressing place to be which is hotter than hell during the summer.

First off, the HEAT factor is way overrated.........only for a couple months is it really bad..........and then only about half the time in those months.

Most of us here are not going to be out doing road work, construction, or digging ditches. Thus, no factor is the heat..........the SUN itself is way better than the SUN here in Florida........here it is skin wrenching(a simple look at the skin of anyone living here for 30 years and you will understand that).

Secondly, I can think of no better place for a cheaper cost of living, ESPECIALLY if are anywhere near a decent gambler...........comped food, low taxes, and good supplemental +ev gaming everywhere in every part of the city.

NEGATIVES.........

TRAFFIC
CRIME
SMOG
NO CULTURE
ISOLATED

POSITIVES........

MAJOR LEAGUES OF GAMBLING
LOW COST OF LIVING
GREAT FOOD
GREAT WEATHER
LOTS OF GOOD PEOPLE
GREAT BAR SCENE
MT. CHARLESTON

Enjoy,
fh

I see what you're saying. I'm a sad depressed person all year. So maybe -longshot ( i know) Whoson1st (me) might find whatson2nd in Sin city. I know you all (that know the place) are offering good and heart felt advice. (no I haven't been there).

I live in Vegas

After living here for the last 15 years I would not live anywhere else. There is so much more out here than just the gambling.
* Best entertainers are always here
* Food is awesome
* More things for kids to do than any other city
* No real rush hour traffic (I came from NY City)
* Best Golf Courses in the country
* Where else can you snow ski and water ski the same day?
* Great schools

I would suggest you come out here and see for yourself. I am sure you will make Vegas your next home. If you decide to come to Vegas send me an e mail and I will give you a tour of the town.
