The entirety of Obama's staff is shaping up to be Clinton administration people and though the Clinton administration was very successful, times have changed and that is why the American people voted for Obama and not, well, Clinton. Let's take a look at some of the names Obama has selected and see where they fit in, relationship-wise, to the Clinton administration.

Rahm Emmanuel, the future White House Chief of Staff, is a long known Clinton supporter since his first day on the political scene. In 1993 he served as one of Bill Clinton's chief advisers, he remains quite close to Bill and also helped in support of Hilary's recent run for the White House.

Bob Gates, future Defense Secretary, has no real ties to Clinton but is certainly not a change because he recently served under a guy, maybe you've heard of him, George W. Bush, in that exact same role.

Eric Holder, who was named as Obama's Attorney General, and while it is change in that he is the first black person to be named to that position, he too has close ties to the Clinton admin. as he served for Bill Clinton as Deputy Attorney General.

Hillary Clinton, the likely Secretary of State, has close ties to the Clinton's as well, mostly in that, well... she is one. I've talked already about why this is a terrible choice, mainly because of her differences with Obama in foreign policy, in regards to talking and meeting with foreign leaders with(out) preconditions, her lack of judgment on the war in Iraq, so on and so on, and I also mentioned the possible political ramifications of this choice in the long run.

Look, here is the bottom line, when you deal with the Clinton's and Clinton people you end up dealing with politics instead of real world issues. Yes, Bill Clinton's presidential era was a damn good one, but it was not without drama and politicking going on all the time, Obama said he was going to bring change to Washington and I simply don't see how it is possible when he is bringing in the same faces and names from the Clinton era. I understand it is hard to strike a balance between new people and experienced council, but I do think it is important for Obama to put a stamp on his own era in history.

Bill Clinton was president for 8 years. Overall a very successful president. Clinton is the most successful democrat of the last 25 years. So it is not a surprise that many of these prominent democrats that Obama is looking at were involved in the Clinton administration. Obama and Clinton are both very sharp guys, so they both see the talent in these individuals...but its not like Obama is picking the exact same cabinet as Clinton.

However, two of the three most important appointments - Treasury and Defense - had nothing to do with Clinton. Tim Geithner is a fresh face for sure. And I understand your point about Gates not being "change", but Obama is inheriting this war and to me it shows good judgement that he wants to keep Gates on for a period to oversee the transition to the new administration's policies. Gates has received nothing but high marks anyway, and unlike many in the Bush administration he has not been a "yes man" to Bush.

Obama has promised "change", but to me I think we would hope that doesn't mean he was planning to bring in a bunch of neophytes. Even with a fair share of Clintonistas in the cabinet, there is no reason to think that the Obama administration will not be all about change. Just maybe not as radical as you would like.

No. This is why reading AP articles and watching CNN > getting your info from righty blogs.

Obama stated himself that it is important to have a mix of members that were part of the last democratic admin, fresh faces who havent been around washington and republicans.
A group of people who raise debate and don't agree all the time.

If you disagree with Obama's cabinet choices, at least take the time to read up on why he is making the choices he has.

Laughable post.........You Obama guy each go back and find 1 post each where you ever discussed who Obama would appoint to anything.........Who did you think he was going to put in? Not that it ever crossed any of your pint sized brains but a guy who has been in the Senate less than 2 years might not know very many people and probably didnt meet a whole lot of statesmen in the neighborhoods of Chicago....The Party got him elected and now he is their puppet....and your taxes are going up too......

You must not have seen the recent Southpark episode where the Giant Guinea Pigs were roaming wild....else you'd never confuse my boy Peter J Cartman (pic above) with a wimpy little hamster that serves as Joe Jr's Special Buddy.
