I have thought for a few weeks now that tenn would pull the upset here, it's a game i eyed watching the georgia ass whippin.
gonna take vols moneyline and the points
if i go down i go down liking the game for a few weeks and so be it
reasons i can see tenn winning as i have watched a few recorded games on both teams
1. bama offense
a very well ran offense that limits mistakes by the qb, they seem to be conservetive. bama seems to run there offense thru the tight end. they motion the tight in about 80% of there plays. double motion by the tights signals run the majority of the time to the motion side or its a counter back side. bama keeps the running game off the b gap for the most part. no toss or sweeps as i dont think they are capable with speed to get outside. for the most part the run off left side more than right.
bama runs under center frequently, motion by tight completely is usually run, motion coming back is reading coverage for wilson, if it shows zone his throws are one of the 3, hitch, out or curl. a dbl motion by tights will lead to a back side counter off weak side or a slam in the b gap. it's just that simple for bama.
in the passing game bama keeps most of the routes to 5 yrd outs and hitch and 7-8 yrd curl. wilson seems to throw to his right side on majority of his throws even if its the short side. bama loves these three routes and uses the tight to signal zone or man in motion giving wilson his read. i dont know if wilson is just too confident in going to his right or he lacks it going to his left. tenn should be very aware of where wilson is going to throw.
i predict tenn will use the athletic secondary to play bump in run and some rolling zone coverage. they mite even go to a cover 1 since bama seems to never throw in the middle od seams or digs, nor to they run any type of post. i dont think wilson is comfertable throwing to the middle and is prone to errors.
most teams seem to be playing 8-10 yrds off the wr's, giving wilson the short throws to the outside all day, the out is the toughest throw in football and i predict tenn to sit on these throws and jump routes all day and get a big payoff with 2 ints sat
being able to bring the safety in to the box should help tenn in the run as i xpct the d-line to pinch and lb's scrape outside clogging the middle on the a/b gaps. i think they are going to force alot of pressure on bama and wilson on blitz pkgs and make wilson connect on his throws. tenn will rely heavily on the cb's and safetys. if they can't hold up it will be a long day for the vols. bama really attacks the a/b gaps with coffee and ingram and tenn should play with pressuring these gaps.
in the three games i recorded ole mss georgia and clemson, bama never attacked the midle of the field on the pass. tenn should gamble and be aware of this and look to hook there zone coverage in the flats. if wilson cant adjust to his 2nd and 3rd targets as it seems he looks for his first trgt way to much then i dont see bama doing much on offense
tenn is weak in the middle but i xpct a confidence boost with the xtra hlp in the box shutting down the run. the secondary will be the major key iths game and i fully xpct tenn to put there db's in postion to make plays and gamble on some routes. i wouldnt be suprised to see a very aggresive def play calling with db blitzing off the corners and safety blitzing in the a gap
pressur on the a gap is vulnerable to middle hot routes, but bama doesnt attack here and wilson seems to comfertable with eyeing his 1st trgt. this type pressure is key for tenn and makes even open wr's on the outside hard passes bc of the throw coming out quicker the accuracy is not there. tenn should give up the middle of the field allowing more coverage to other zones and in return big plays can be made.
2. bama def
bama relys n the fornt 4 to set the tone, the loss of cody is huge. i think tenn will attack and stick to heavy running in the a and b gaps forcing bama to stack the lb's. we should see tenn atatck the 2nd zone of bama with the linemen and push there lb's out of plays. tenn will have more zone read running plays this week than normal. limiting counters and stretch plays early. waiting for bama to force the def in pressuring overpursuit and then running counters and play action.
bama has gotten way to comfey in there 4-3 base and tenn will look to rattle this and force them to play an over or under coverage on this. this should put more pressure on the dt's. i think tenn will expose bama on def up the middle this week.
tenn cant try and run toss or sweep on bama, bama will slant often with d-line and tenn should realize this by now. tenn loves theses runs but look for them to put these calls in the trunk and bama should get caught on def with the predictability of tenn being out of the norm.
tenn will work the bama db's on 2nd down deep with double moves early. then stick with hard runs on third andmiddle yardage. the double moves early should allow tenn to go to short flats later in the game as the db's should release early in there moves giving up plays in front protecting over top
i look for tenn to be able to eat some clock on offense with some long drives and for us to see a few 3 and outs by bama. tenn has not done much on offense but in games like this teams on the down with something to prove will go against the norm and change calls, giving players a fresh taste and different attitude towards making plays.
summary-
1.tenn needs to run direct plays early, then bring counters and traps setting up play action
2. work double moves early attcking downfield even if it's not successful, this will allow underneath and flats later in the game and build some confidence for the pasing game
3. do not run outside early, no toss no sweeps no stretch plays. get to the lb's and the 2nd zone of bama and force the dt's collapse the a gap
4. def play cover 1 and bring safty in the box and get to the a/b gaps
5. give tight coverage on the outside and bump n run and blitz with cb's and release into roliing zone coverages
6. attack attack attack the a gap on the blitz, make wilson beat you in the middle of the field
advantages
tenn needs a game to play for and this is it
tenn has the home field and the crowd
tenn can be more aggressive with play calling
bama has yet to play from behind early and this is what sets the tone and comfert zone for there offense, they may for the first time feel pressured to press and make plays and this could cost them.
tenn should control the line on both sides, which on paper is bamas advantage but play calling and scheming by tenn will allow them to take control
good luck to all- gonna make a bigger bet than normal here and i hope i am right. if i am wrong and lose, o well i stand by my opinions and observations
on paper and thru the season bama is the better team, but it's not a big of gap as some might seem. and tenn is looking to play hard and stray from the norm and be aggressive
