I'm curious why nobody in Vegas has anything good to say about the sportsbooks there. Everyone says that "they got out of the sportsbetting industry a long time ago." What do you guys mean? I love Vegas, and would love to be able to walk up to a counter and place my bets, knowing that it was as legitimate there as buying a cup of coffee. Is it that the betting lines are always so similar at the different places, or something else?

Much better variety, odds, and bonuses overseas. The vig keeps increasing at most Vegas sportsbooks, the limits are small, and they are showing a sudden penchant for kicking out winners.
Their actions parallel those of the blackjack pits, where they only want sucker tourist money, and are making the rules worse by the day.

ILL, I would also love to walk into a book anytime I want and place a bet... but the odds are better offshore as GD says...but nothing beats the atmosphere of a book like mandalay bay IMO

Dante- No doubt, my friend. A Vegas sportsbook is a sporting event in and of itself. Especially during March Madness, when it is completely packed. I've never seen fans want to win so badly. Caesar's Palace is tops for me, although many others are great also.

I think it is important to note that guys betting less than a nickel are not gonna have too tough a time in vegas. I spent four years in vegas. My largest wager was a dime and only bet a dime six times. Every other wager was less than a nickel. I won consistently, the writers bet with me, the managers knew about it and never was a problem. Now I did know of some refused action from the real bettors but it was always blamed on other issues.

I am not saying that I believe those issues, just making a note. I realize this is obvious to the multi-dime bettors in here but, it can be confusing to the smaller guys who really have no reason to fear heat in vegas.

t-giving 2002. i walk into the stardust - arguably the biggest and best sportsbook in the city - and the one that takes bets on more sports than any other book there.

i ask about betting the first half of an nba game. the guy tells me - sorry, they don't book first half lines for the nba but adds they might once football ends.

imagine an off-shore book doing this.

as it stands now - as others have pointed out - vegas books don't want anyone playing there except the tourists who come in every weekend and bet notre dame, dallass cowgirls, lakers, yankees and all sorts of public teams.

anyone showing any kind of brains is "punished" by the books. anyone who is stupid is allowed to bet - because the books know they will take that money.

and don't even think of betting anything above a few $1000 because the limits are ludicrously low.

I'll give you another reason

3 weeks ago I walk into the Hard Rock Sportsbook (granted I know this is not a top tier book) I try to place 1000 on Michigan minus 2.5 over Iowa in the Big Ten Tourney..(my local had the line at 2)...they immediately bump the line up to 3.5..I'm thinking WTF???...Did I just move the line a point...so i call a couple offshore sites and they all have the line still at 2...

i can't believe that their bottom line was so threatened by my 1000 that the raised the line a full point...

If only I ran the sportsbook there!!!

IS they do shit like that. That is their way of telling the guy who bets a dime a game to go fvck himself. If he wants to bet it he can have it at a shit number. Then when he doesn't bet it the number comes back down.Leroys does that shit also. Also at the Hard Rock if you are betting a nickel a game and then come back to bet again they will tell you that you have to bet all your games at one time.Besides football it is hard to get sizeable bets down in Vegas without spreading it around. As for the numbers you can find variety out here you just have to look around and on the strip that is a pain in the ass because these places are so big.For futures and props you are better off offshore.

Vegas still offers the best opportuntity for a 95% of the bettors to win.

If you know the town, know their tolerances, and know each books strenghts and weaknesses, you can carve out some very nice profits. I very rarely see anyone out there with a clue betting in Vegas. And because of this, there are some huge opportunities since I'm often the only sharp in a book.

As far as atmosphere goes, nothing is more exciting than most sportsbooks in tow. As far as actually betting, I have lived in Las Vegas for the past 19 years and haven't made an actual bet in 4-5 years due to their silly limits and restrictions they've instituted over the past several years. You can't beat the convenience, normally better numbers or superior variety of betting options you find offshore. These Vegas books stopped gambling years ago and instead took the position of catering only to local squares and tourists who generally don't care or know any better. Every pro bettor here in town has at least a couple of accounts offshore whether or not they will admit it.

Interesting, but believable. Not the part about you being sharp though.

You probably should follow up this one with something if you want any credibility in your collums.....ScottyS
