Anyone interested in a round of golf during the Vegas Party? I am really interested in playing the royallinks course.More info available for you at www.waltersgolf.com then click on Royal Links ( I guess this is a Billy Walters operation?)

This looks really cool. Its a British links course in the desert. It takes 18 famous holes from courses in the British Open rotation ( Postage stamp, road hole, etc)

I would like to play Thursday Aug 12. If we go off at 2 PM or later its only $70 greens fees, which is a steal. This is normally a pricy course, but its Vegas in August, its going to be hot and prices are low. Clearly, we will get a cart. I played golf in the summer in Vegas once at Badlands, I did not find the weather to be any problem. Bring water and sunblock, drive the cart and its fine.

There is also a forecaddy with each group with a $25 per golfer gratuity at the end of the round. So figure with a cart and all its about $120 total.

If interested please post here or e-mail me at redsox112@hotmail.com

I am open to ideas as to how to pay for this. They want a credit card and payment up front to reserve a tee time. This presents problems as people probably don't want to give me money up front and I don't want to pay for a reservation and then someone does not show up and I'm probably stuck paying for their round anyway.

I'm open to suggestions on how to work out payment.Perhaps we'll just meet up somewhere Thurday and anyone interested shows up and we'll drive over. Summer is slow at these courses and we very likely would be able to get off without a reservation.

Maybe we can get a couple foursomes together, this would be a fun outing. Perhaps even a mini-tournament.

Personally, I once shot a 77 as a teenager, but I virtually never play anymore. I hit the ball well having played a lot in the past, but I won't score well to to little practice ( well, none) or play. The point being, you don't have to be a scratch golfer to be interested, this is for fun.

At 2:00 pm in August in Vegas I promise you that you'll be able to just walk up and play... you might have the whole course to yourself. But do yourself a favor and check on the course's condition before you go... in the past they've had trouble with the greens in the summer.

just walking up with whoever does want to go then would be ideal.

The $70 greens fees may be some sort of internet special, the fee may be higher if we walk up, but it may be the only way to do this.

We could all meet in say the lobby of the Golden Nugget and drive out. I for one, will have a car.

If we tried to make reservations, some people would no show for whatever reason, that always happens. So unless anyone has a better idea lets plan on meeting in the MAIN check-in lobby ( not the rear one) which is the one closer to the sportsbook of the Golden Nugget at 1:30 PM on Thursday. We'll have time to drive out there and loosen up a bit and go off around 2:30. I'll be a tall guy with a bright red Coca Cola Golf Bag ( I won it in a scramble a few years ago).

Lets try to get at least 2 foursomes together this will be fun. Perhaps a sportsbook would consider donating prizes? Balls, a putter, a free round somewhere in town, $50 credit to your sportsbook account?????

no handicap, I don't have time to play. If we get this together, I will practice when I can over the next month, just so I can play reasonably well. Golf is not a ton of fun when your playing really poorly.

Cant belive Fishhead hasnt responded. He used to organize tournaments in Iowa. He has played many of the courses there. Including R.I.P., Showboat, D.i. , Dunes and Trop. Hard to believe they are all gone.

You guys must be kidding. Mid-August it will be about 104 if there is some humidity in the air, 109 if there isn't. I would highly recommend unless you are acclimated to desert weather not to do it mid-day. Heat stroke is a very real problem in Vegas in July and August and that often is just for people that were walking for half a mile to get between hotels. If you do indeed try it, take many liters of water with you and don't drink any alcohol.

I played once dont know which month, it was very hot, with my dad ( 60's) and his brother (70's). I was a bit worried but it was not a problem at all. We will have carts.

Personally I would not drink alcohol. I drink at nite in Vegas anyway when I gamble and the drinks are free.

Used to tee off at noon. Heat not a problem once you get out in it. Drink lots of water. Only way to afford courses there really.

Mr. Smith;
Billy Walters owns/runs 4 courses in Vegas; in descending order, they are Bali Hai, Royal Links, Desert Pines, and Stallion. Forget Stallion as it is in terrible shape this year.
But THE SHRINK is personal friends with BW and should be able to get us a special rate at any of the other three courses.
I would prefer Bali Hai over Royal Links(I hate forecaddies!), but any of the 3 would be a nice place for us to have a round of golf (especially if Ken can get us a special rate!)
I'm in whereever you decide to play.

Bali Hai is the nicest in my opinion too...

If there is enough interest, I feel confident Mr. Walters will do us right....
