I don't have a play yet on this game. Just trying to break it down, and can't see any reason not to bet Vandy. The fact that it came down from it's opener of 3.5 has me puzzled a little bit. If you're betting Tennessee, talk to me. I just can't find any reason at all to play the Vols here.

I'd play the total in this game, if it's 36 or higher, I'd play the under. Tenneessee has a solid D, and moreso a solid rush defense. SHould be an ugly 12-17 type of game.

1) Tennessee has a stronger D than Vanderbilt
2) Tennessee is the rested team
3) Vandy is now bowl eligible - they may let down a little
4) There will probably be just as many Volunteer fans in the stands as Vandy fans, virtually eliminating that 3-point homefield edge that the oddsmaker is charging you.

Both offenses stink, so this looks to be a low scoring game where the underdog will have many chances to pull the outright win.

ND2000, you're out of your mind. No way Vandy (Class of '82) has a let down. We get one chance every 10 years to beat those low lifes and I guarantee we take advantage of it tomorrow. Lay the 3 and thank me tomorrow night, Vandy is the far better team, e.g. who the hell looses at home to Wyoming?

I like Tenn +3 or more

I like the fact Tenn is off a bye week and the players really want to win one for Fulmer. When Vandy was 5-0 I stated in another thread Vandy would lose 4 out of their last 5 SEC games. I think they go down here but I like the getting insurance points.

Kind of the way I see things. Vandy clearly the better team, playing at home with years of revenge to play for against a gutless team that has been an ultimate fade the second half of the season. I won't play Vandy large, but don't know how anyone could bet monopoly money on Tennessee.

Vandy opened -2.5. That should tell you something.
Ah, thanks. I know the openers listed here are not accurate. I'm sure you've got a lot of -2.5, and a chunk of +3.5. Thanks for the info.

That's a terrible opener btw.

Ahhh young lad, we shall see my friend. Kind of strange to see a 6-4 team only favored by 3 at home over a 3-7 team, don't ya think? Oddsmakers are not asleep at the wheel here.

Certainly not asleep at the wheel, but seems to me to be one of those cases where the brand-name team gets some extra points just because. Don't forget that while Tenn is coming off the bye week, they lost to 1-6 in the Mountain West WYOMING. Previous week they scored 6 on USCe, that being 50 less than Florida against USCe. They have 0 wins of any merit at all, 0 wins on the road, their coach is a lame duck, and Vandy has broken their losing streak and has some confidence.

If you are fooled by a perceived "trap," isn't that itself a trap? If you ask me...

Illini......The only way Tennessee wins this game is when BJ Coleman comes in the game in the 1st or 2nd qrtr and finally brings the qb spark they have needed...

I am not saying it will happen, but BJ is by far the best qb on the team and is expected to play early...

I follow southern football closely and my advice is to lay off this game. The trainwreck that is Tenn this year has better athletes on both sides of the ball but no QB that has been anything but awful outside the practice field. Vandy could blow Tenn out if they play as they did against Wyo and a couple of other games this year and just lay down. Vice versa Tenn could blow Vandy out if they come out fired up for Fulmer and get decent QB play. All I know is they are one pissed off football team based on what I have been told over the way the Fulmer firing was handled by the AD(they learned about it through the media before Fulmer could meet with them) and they could either lay down or play up to their potential for once. I don't want to risk money on the game either way.

As a couple of other posters have said the best bet is probably the under. If I had to bet a side it would have to be Vandy.

JMO and BOL to all

I live in Nashville and have a little insight. I made a ton of money off of the Vandy the first few weeks then didn't bet on them once they went on the road to play Miss. St.

Vandy started out 5-0 then proceeded to lose 4 straight mostly due to conservative playcalling. At halftime of the Florida game Vandy's coach stripped the Offensive Cooridinator of playcalling duties and gave them to the QB coach. Vandy scored 14 in the 2nd half against Florida's 2nd team.

Last week against KY Vandy opened it up and mixed up their plays a lot better and now that their starting QB is back 100% look for Vandy to cover. Vandy's defense is equal if not a little better to UT's but UT's offense is horrible. The only hope UT has is to run the ball because Vandy's secondary is rock solid. DJ Moor and Rashard Langford will be drated and the other corner, Spread and safety, Hamilton may make it the NFL too.

Vandy isn't used to winning and the people in Nashville are excited. Expect to see a lot of closet Vandy fans tomorrow. Giving up 3 points to a team that will have an excited home crowd isn't so bad.
