USC's streak of 7 straight top 5 finishes, 7 straight BCS games is very much in jeopardy.

When I first saw the 2009 schedule, I was surprised, no SEC team, first thought.....weak schedule. Sure the 2nd Ohio St game, (game 2 of home and away), but whats San Jose doing on USC's schedule?

USC Schedules | TV Times

Date
Sep. 5 San Jose St. 12:30pm
Sep. 12 at Ohio State 5:00pm
Sep. 19 at Washington 12:30pm
Sep. 26 Wash. St. TBA
Oct. 3 at California 5:00pm
Oct. 17 at Notre Dame 12:30pm
Oct. 24 Oregon State 5:00pm
Oct. 31 at Oregon 5:00pm
Nov. 7 at Arizona State 5:00pm
Nov. 14 Stanford TBA
Nov. 28 UCLA 7:00pm
Dec. 5 Arizona 12:30pm

Upon further review, especially after the basketball crap, and Sanchez leaving,...... this is by far the most vulnerable USC has been in the Pete Carroll era. A freshman qb, (or Soph, but very VERY limited experience) and losing their best 5 or 6 defensive players, (remember 4 LB's on 1st day, 6 defenders in total).

After the San Jose icebreaker, USC plays 4 of next 5, 6 of next 8 on the road. Not just 'on the road', but rivalry games with pac 10 teams tired of having the trojans rub their faces in it. Maybe this is why PC was testy after Mark Sanchez announced he was leaving.

@Ohio St ranked 8th
@Cal ranked 17th
@Oregon ranked 13th
Arizona ranked 22nd
Ore St ranked 27th

Then @ND, @Wash, @Arz St. Pac 10 likely on an upswing, USC vulnerable and you get a fun year for those who went to UCLA or just hate USC.

I'd say anything better than 9-3 would be beyond belief.

Could be very challenging.

Now you know why Sanchez left and why PC was so pissed off when he did. Lost lsome Asst coaches too. Yes they are vulnerable but I think they will do better than 9-3. The gap is closed but I think there is still a gap.

If Sanchez returned, they would have been my pick to win it all. I don't give a shit how many players Florida returned.

People wouldn't give this offense its due, but they would have been as good or better than '05.

Sanchez is as good or better than Leinhart. McKnight may not be Bush, he is still electric.

The OLine is the best in sometime.

Damian Williams is actually better than Mike Williams, Steve (the Ugliest person since Tyrone Hill) Smith.

This offense could have easily averaged 45-50 points, if they weren't callling the dogs off.

Something tells me that USC's season hinges on the Ohio State game. If they win that game, I think they have a halfway decent chance to go 11-1. They always lose to somebody during the season so i'm not going to call for them to go undefeated. If USC loses to OSU early, i think they could lose as many as 3 games this year. My bet is they won't beat both OSU and ND on the road. And Cal is overdue to give them a good game. And last time USC went to Oregon they lost.

I had commented on dawoofs thread that I liked the under 10.5 USC season bet. If my offshore offers it I will take it as well.

USCMD you are right to be worried this year. This team has more questions this year than they have had in a long while.

L5Y, USC is 4-0 vs SEC, outscoring them 167-48!!!

We'll easily lose two to three times.
lol "we"?

USC has a great shot at going undefeated. Defensive line is just as good if not better. Secondary is just as good if not better. Linebackers won't see much of a dropoff. Great WR, Great RB, fantastic OL and whatever QB is out there is plenty capable. This team is loaded and I don't see many weaknesses

Actually, CAL has been pretty competitive over the years against SC, much more so than the rest of the league on an annual basis. CAL has an excellent chance of pulling the upset this year in Berkeley. I see CAL being a lot more dangerous than Oregon this year.

I don't man. You make it seem like there will be little drop off in the defensive performance. I doubt it. The front seven will be noticeably weaker IMO. The offense is really loaded though. USC, to me, is a team to look at playing overs on early in the season.

USC will contnue to cheat (i.e Reggie Bush, OJ Mayo, etc) and find a way for "another Top 5 finish."

I just don't understand what is taking the NCAA so long to discipline them? They need to be made an example of with the Reggie Bush garbage.

With that said....USC is still USC...Their back-ups are better then everyone else in the Pac-10. Sure I think they may struggle a little early, but by struggle I mean instead of winning games 50-7, they may win 30-13...nonetheless they should challenge yet again for a Nat'l title....until their annual choke job versus an under talented conference foe.

That sounds like another Big 10 fan ready to take another tail kicking by USC. Spare us the crying and whining about Bush, etc... Just admit that even this watered down version of USC is probably better than anything the Big 10 has to offer. Just because USC kicked Ohio State's and Penn State's tail last year doesn't mean you have to start whining about how much the school cheats. That is strictly for losers. The losers of the world complain about crap like that. Try getting some decent players for a change and stop being so jealous.

Getting back to the legitimate part of this thread, my team and I picked USC to finished 2nd in the Pac 10 behind Cal. USC could lose as many as 4 away games tis year. I agree that the Ohio State game will be a critical start to the road season, but Cal or Oregon could beat Ohio State on a neutral field (not necessairily in Columbus, but certainly at home). The Big 10 simply does not measure up to the Pac 10. Ohio State shold be playing as if this game meant everything, because for them, it probably does. I find it hard to believe that USC will be favored in this game. Si even if USC gets past Ohio State, Cal, Oregon, and the huge rivalry game against Notre Dame await, all on the road.

There will never be an argument on the talent level at USC. It has always been great. That said there is a very serious drop off from last year in playing experience. You watched last years LB core and at times it seemed as if they were thinking with one mind. Fast, vicious, and extremely intuitive. I cannot fathom that continuing this year. One thing the D has going for them is Mayes sticking. I still don't get that but it is a big deal for continuity/leadership.

The USC spring game special was on Fox last night and I watched it again. I do not think that Corp will keep his job for the entire year. Barkely looks like the real deal and when you consider he was a HS SR at the time you have to be shocked at how well he executed the offense. That is some serious pressure on Corp. There will be mistakes made.

Barkley played varsity as a freshman QB in HS too. He just moved on in and took over. He set state records by the time he was a soph. It seems like wherever he's played he has broken every record that's been there for him. All star all-american HS QB. First freshman to make all-state team in the history of California. As a junior he already surpassed most of the former greats.

From what I have read about him, he's a one-of-a-kind. In this day and age, and considering what's come before him, that's quite an accomplishment. You are probably right. Corp's days are numbered.

(But Aaron Corp is no slouch either... a good runner with speed, which is something entirely new for a USC QB to have. It seems that the Trojans can't lose no matter how they go about it.)

And aside from all that, I think USC's defense will still wind up being a top 10 unit this season. For them that would be a drop off. For just about everyone else, that would be a banner year.

Pete Carroll and Jim Tressel entered their respective jobs in the same year 2001.

Which team has had the most players drafted, OSU or USC?

Which team has the most First round picks since they both started, OSU or USC?

Answer to both is OSU, but I am sure you already knew that.

Apparently my comments got your speedo in a bunch...the fact of the matter is this. USC cheats in football and basketball. Just ask Tim Floyd. The difference in footbal is they have deeper pockets and Pete Carrol (in his defense) had nothing to do with the Bush(ll-it) scandal...

The Pac-10 is better then most people give them credit for, HOWEVER they aren't as good as YOU say they are. Oregon and Cal...give me a break. Oregon was "impressive" versus the worst Purdue team in 20 years last year. Big deal. And Cal beat Michigan St at home...whoopee...it is what it is. The Pac-10 consists of 1 great team....and 1-2 slightly above average teams...and 7-8 shitty teams.......much like the Big 11...
