The United States has said that virtually all its troops, except some training personnel, are to be pulled out of Saudi Arabia.
The decision was announced as US Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld arrived in the Gulf kingdom for talks with senior Saudi officials.

No time-scale for the withdrawal has been announced, but a top US military official said the decision was taken by a "very mutual agreement" with the Saudi Government

Air base closure

Earlier, the US military confirmed that it was moving its air command centre from Saudi Arabia to neighbouring Qatar.

US Rear Admiral David Nichols said the Combined Air Operations Centre (CAOC) at the Prince Sultan base in Saudi Arabia would be closed later this year.

Reading between the lines, it looks like the US has been politely asked to leave ASAP, and Quatar has been chosen as the new US home.

A smart move by the Saudis, since the US will become an occupation force in Iraq if they dont leave in the near future.

those bases were put there by the US to maintain the southern no-fly zone in Iraq. The Saudi government came under heavy fire for allowing the US to be there.

If I remember correctly the US bore the brunt of the cost for building and maintaining the bases.

Don't worry we'll be back if Saudi Arabia pisses us off. We can just fly in troops from Afganistan, Iraq, Qatar or anyone of our aircraft carriers stationed in the region.

It's good news because the troops based there are a major reason why Al Qaeda is in jihad mode. Their removal will help to prevent future acts of terror against the U.S.

Disagree outandup. They hate Americans, regardless. Period. And they are not alone there ....just think back, think about 9/11 : they partied in Palestina, Jordan, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia and so on...

These are the Arabs : straight forward cowards. They smile at your face and backstab you as soon as you turn your back.

Dm,
I agree with you. It doesn't matter if we are in Saudia Arabia or not the Arabs will hate us.

I believe they hate us because their governments teach them to hate the US. The US supporting Israel gives them something to harp on.

The reason the Arab governments teach arabs to hate America is very simple. The corrupt arab leaders don't want the arab people to be free and the US represents freedom and that threatens the dictators. These Arab countries control a vast majority of the oil reserves in the world, but the citizens live in proverty.

The US is a little over 200 years old and these arab countries have been around 1000's of years. Why are they a 1000 years behind the US?

Why is it 'great news' that we moved a base? Did we finally realize that the majority of the 9/11 hijackers were Saudi?

RFC,
I'm well aware that the Saudi's hate America. At this point the Americans are not willing to pay $5.00 a gallon for gas. Remember all the crying when it went to $2.00, which was still cheaper than many countries. Until we don't need their oil, I guess the Saudi's get a pass. Which I'm not for.

It's more evident all the time that this was all about oil.
As far as this little forum it's clear who was wrong and who was right about that.

KAYA,
I totally agree with you it was about the OIL money that France, Russia and the UN were skimming off the top as to why they voted against the US taking care of business.

Bush was right.

1. Iraq was a terrorist state
2. Iraq has/had WMD, if they destroyed them, GREAT. I still believe the US will find them.
3. Iraq and Al queda were partners. Al queda operatives met in Iraq with Saddams people in the 90's.
4. Saddam trained terrorist to highjack planes at Salmon Pac.
5. Saddam allowed the PLO to run terrorist camps in Iraq.

This is plenty for people that want to see the truth.

No WMD, "Iraqi freedom" the propaganda to boost support from the public (there are plenty of other places people could be freed but without an alterior motive nothing will be done), the real deal a great oil heist.
Arabs are angrier than ever.

So the Arab community hates us more than ever and the whole point was to get the oil.
The left was right about that, the righties can't admit it, so they try to make jokes and mock, pitiful.

Kaya Man - In my humble opinion, you are way off. The Arab people are starting to taste freedom! Instead of being suppressed by greedy dictators they are going to rise up against their leaders so they can live in freedom just like the people in Iraq are now. This was a great move by the US.

It is going to take time to find these weapons, but even if we don't, we destroyed the supposedly "most powerful middle east military". These other Terror supporting countries are finally ready to talk now. They saw what we did to Saddam and his Army and are ready to come clean.

This is going to make the world much more peaceful in the long run.
