DS285: US — Measures affecting the cross-border supply of gambling and betting services

Implementation....

Implementation intentions....

The US said that it intended to implement and had begun to evaluate options to do so. The US added that it would need a reasonable period of time and stood ready to discuss this matter with the Government of Antigua and Barbuda.

Antigua & Barbuda — represented by its Finance and Economy Minister, Dr. Errol Cort — asked the US for more precision on its implementation plans. Antigua commented that implementation would require not only a clarification of the US' internet gambling restrictions but also market access for Antigua for the provision of gambling and betting services.

If I wasn't 100% convinced that this was nothing more than a ploy to buy time, I'd actually believe that they were trying to comply.

They're putting up a good front......or at least trying to.

Once they get going with the China trade war over at the USTR office, they will hope everyone forgets about issues like this and CAFTA.

"The US said that it intended to implement and had begun to evaluate options to do so". In the meantime Senator Kyl will continue to push forward legislation to ban internet sports betting.

That buffoon Kyl swears up and down the support for his bill is "bi-partisan" and "stronger than ever". Here is $10 saying he sucks at poker, probably tries to bluff every hand. Kyl's only shot I am told is if he sneaks it in as a rider to a popular piece of legislation, as they tried with Leach not too long ago. Fact is he has almost no real support. He claims by taking out all the provisions and carve outs he had before, he somehow got stronger support. Yeah right. You did the carve outs to get people on your side, how did cutting them out of the deal make your support stronger???

I have been here many years now saying this won't pass and I will continue to say that. Maybe, just maybe, they can get their stupid "de-facto" law passed sometimes, saying you can't use your credit cards or banking instruments to do that, but I think we all have had a good enough laugh over that one already. Just ignore Kyl for now, he won't get support for the bill unless he makes up a crisis or just gets lucky and has one handed to him. In other words lets hope the books keep things clean and Betonsports stops issuing 20 press releases saying how much US business they take in.
