they send a mid level dignitary that nobody has ever heard of to Arafat's funeral....

this would have been an excellent opportunity to extend an olive branch to the ARAB world & work for peace.....

Heck, GEORGE BUSH should have gone..... not in support of ARAFAT... but in support of the PEACE PROCESS.....

DO you not all think this would have been a good first step at quelling ARAB anger?

Why would the President go to the funeral of a terrorist? Also, there is no way in hell the secret service would even want to try that. Arafat turned down the deal of a lifetime because most Palestinian hardliners do not really want peace, they want the destruction of Israel.

General,
As a fellow former Marine, I can understand your frustration that Marines have been put in harms way in what you apparently believe is a stupid war. They are part of an all volunteer force and they took the oath and Bush is the commander in chief. There were some definite and massive miscalculations on the aftermath of this war, but as usual the United States Marines are performing in an "outstanding" manner when they are called upon in operations such as Fallujah. Semper Fi.

Arafat was a bag of shyt no doubt about it. But I have gone to funerals of people I could not stand, not for them but for who they leave behind. This pig kept his people in thrall for many years and ruined the one good chance for peace he had. Now that he is gone an American leader with vision is needed to take advantage of an opportunity for peace. If Washington were to send someone of stature(let Cheneys worthless ass earn his salary). It might signal to the Pals that while we wouldn't deal with Arafat we would be open to someone more moderate. The problems in the ME are numerous but the Pal problem is one of the biggest if not THE biggest.
If we just had a leader instead of puppet.

Lots of stupid wars out there, and a lot of stupid people actually trust the government enough to take the oath and volunteer for puppet duty and the chance to be killed on a whim, in all probability fighting for some other country than one's own.....or fighting and dying for war profiteers....the list could go on and on.....

Hundreds of billions of dollars to pump into an invasion and rebuilding of an oil rich country like Iraq.....yet here at home there are questions about health care, social security, teachers salaries......yeah, keep trusting that government because obviously they know how to take care of business....:toothless

This administration is too busy spending YOUR tax dollars on the following:

Three days after Christian Americans handed George W. Bush four more years in the White House, U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell hosted an annual banquet celebrating the Muslim holiday of Ramadan. There were some 150 honored guests from around the world representing Islam to whom the United States government promoted hospitality and good will.

The furniture was moved aside and rugs were placed on the floor of a room outside the State Department's Ben Franklin dining hall so that Muslims could pray to Allah before nightfall broke their traditional fast of Ramadan. And Mr. Powell closed by saying, "… in the United States the nations you represent will find no better friend and partner." Point taken that Mr. Powell was reaching out to Islam with a public relations spin on the war on terror.
But to say that Muslim nations, the vast majority of which are trying to destroy America for its Christianity and support for Israel, "will find no better friend and partner," is, quite frankly, outrageous. To open the State Department as a prayer room to some fictitious moon God invented by Mohammed is sacrilege.

Don't act so godammned stupid - The Mid East is all about Oil!

If we weren't getting enough oil, and you jokers had to pay $10 a gallon to gas up your SUVs, then you'd all be screaming for Bush to go to war and get the price of oil back down.

'73 and '78 and the gas lines are still fresh in my mind. No SUV for me!

They held a very sedate funeral in Egypt.

How about sending your Prime Minister instead? Better yet, how about the useless Prince Charles? FYI Arafat was persona non grata in most Arab countries-- why do you think he was stuck in that bunker for years?

Bush should have sent "the lead pipe cinch" Kerry.

Our President has more important things to do than honor a dead terrorist.

I normally despise Bush, his administration, and nearly every decision he has made. But...

He might actually be doing the right thin with Arafat/Middle East. Arafat was an obstructionist, and with him gone, there is a better chance for a lasting peace. Bush's administration recently announced that they will create a Palestinian state, and spend whatever capital it takes to make it work. The timing is pretty good - shortly after his re-election, and immediately after Arafat's death.

If Bush would make this an international effort, that would be a great first step in restoring US credibility, as well as doubling the chances of this effort succeeding.
