especially at the NYT

From the start, the Edwards scandal has belonged entirely to the alternative and new media. The tabloid National Enquirer has done all the significant reporting on it — reporting that turns out to be largely correct — and bloggers and online commentators have refused to let the story sputter into oblivion. . . It’s interesting that what finally forced Edwards into telling the truth was a mainstream media organization. ABC News began investigating the Edwards affair in October, but really began to push after the Beverly Hilton allegations. When ABC confronted Edwards with its story (which confirmed “95% to 96%” of the tabloid’s reporting, according to the network), he admitted his deception. With that admission, the illusion that traditional print and broadcast news organizations can establish the limits of acceptable political journalism joined the passenger pigeon on the roster of extinct Americana.

But here's the good part

We also have the obligatory column from Clark Hoyt admitting that the New York Times was wrong, but denying that their reticence to cover the Edward story was the result of liberal bias. Yes, who could imagine such a thing of the paper which ran a front-page, uncorroborated story of the Republican nominee’s alleged relationship with a lobbyist some nine years ago?

Indeed. If it was a conservative/Republican the allegations would
have been all over every media outlet from day one, 10 months ago.

Oh, but there is no media bias.

There was an article by Howard Kurtz of the Wash. Post saying the reason that the MSM media missed the boat is because of cutbacks in the media, and didn't have the resources to cover such unfounded rumors.
What a crock of shit.
The Inquirer had 10 times more documented facts on Edwards and the MSM still wouldn't investigate it but a paper like the NYT had the balls to smear McCain on its front page based strictly on shithouse talk.

Its really amazing how media out lets like the NYT puts their ideology in front journalism. They are joke and don't even realise it or think people are to stupid to realise it.

To get a little real about this, he is a private citizen. He holds no public office nor is he running for one.

Oh really? So this is a different John Edwards than the one that
was running for President during this affair? (Up until Jan 30 2008).

A different John Edwards than the one that was under consideration
for Vice President?

On June 20, 2008, The Associated Press reported that according to a member of the Congressional Black Caucus, the names of Edwards and Sam Nunn are on Obama's vice presidential shortlist.[59]

Tell me you're not high on crack.

Punter, the story first broke during the primary season, just like the John McCain story.

Compare and contrast how the NYT handled each incident.

No evidence & hearsay about a 9 year old story? Front page headlines for McCain

Lots of evidence about a ongoing affair? buried for John Edwards

Now that he is pretty much a private citizen, it's newsworthy? Your argument just doesn't add up.

a) NYT was wrong to jump the gun with that McCain story....i think i remember them saying they broke it (even though they were sitting on it for a while) because they thought they were going to get scooped

very bad reporting IMO

b) i think this edwards thing may have more to do with his wife dying of cancer and a respect towards that.
