First time goaltender Dan Ellis is starting tonight for the Stars.....but I'm not changing my mind in this game. This kid is playing his first game ever in the NHL and when that happens it usualy results in a feel out process that can take an entire game untill they get a book on him. Still like the Stars...although I wish it was Marty in goal...at least I know what I have there.
Ellis, 23, has appeared in eight games with the Utah Grizzlies this season, posting a 2-5-0 record with a 2.17 goals-against-average and a .940 save percentage with one shutout. In his last appearance with Utah, he stopped 31 of 33 shots on Friday night at Cincinnati, earning a 3-2 win.
The 6-0, 185-pound goaltender has also played in 23 contests with the Idaho Steelheads of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL). In those 23 games, Ellis has registered a 13-8-1 record with a 2.56 goals-against-average and a .909 save percentage with two shutouts.
The Stars' second round selection (60th overall) in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft, Ellis played in three preseason outings with Dallas in 2003. In those three preseason games, he recorded a 1.50 goals-against-average, a .935 save percentage and stopped one penalty shot (Petr Nedved, New York Rangers).
