We've had baseball and basketball the past few days, so tonight we head to the ice. Playoff hockey is so damn good, if you watched the late games last night in Dallas and LA you know what I'm talking about.
We head north of the border, Ottawa @ Toronto. The Leafs always face an enormous amount of pressure come playoff time. They have found a way to lose 8 of their last 9 playoff series.
They came out in Game 1 and trounced the Sens 6-2. The Sens couldn't stay out of the penalty box as the Leafs converted 3 of them for goals. It was a chippy, high intensity game between Canadian rivals.
Ottawa out-shot Toronto 33-24, which coincides with what these teams did during the season. A few stats
Corsi:
Corsi refers to the number of shot attempts (shots on net, blocked shots, and missed shots) taken by a team or player while they are on the ice. It's a measure of a team's or player's puck possession and offensive pressure.
Ottawa #15
Toronto #29
Fenwick:
Fenwick refers to unblocked shot attempts (USAT), it counts shots on goal and missed shots, excluding blocked shots. It's a variation of Corsi
Ottawa #12
Toronto #26
Goals For Above Expected:
Refers to the number of goals a team or player scores that exceed what would be expected based on their shot quality and location. It essentially measures a team or player's "finishing", indicating how well they are converting their scoring opportunities
Ottawa #10
Toronto #26
Over the last 2 seasons they are 6-2 vs Toronto including the game 1 loss, 4-1 in Toronto. All 4 wins in Toronto were by 2+.
Ottawa can absolutely win this game if they play disciplined hockey, which I am sure will be a point of emphasis. The end of the last game saw them get out their frustrations with 6 guys from each team drawing a roughing penalty during that end of game skirmish.
Ottawa also fits a nice spot play
PLAY ON: Dog Off Dog Loss, More SOG Last Game. Since 2009
W/L: 50-28 (64.1%)
ROI 51.6%
I expect a focused and disciplined Ottawa team tonight, out skating Toronto and taking advantage of their opportunities. Tremendous value on the Senators tonight
Ottawa +145
