KEY STAT: Hibs have lost just one of their last ten home matches

EXPERT VERDICT: It seems as if there is fresh turmoil at Rangers every week and it will be interesting to see how the Gers settle after Ally McCoist's departure. They have lost their last three away games and conceded eight goals, so Hibs should be hopeful. However, four of their last five league matches at Easter Road have been draws and this could be another one.

RECOMMENDATION: Draw

KEY STAT: Raith have won one of their last 11 league matches

EXPERT VERDICT: Falkirk have won their last five Championship matches to push themselves into the playoff frame and they should be able to boost their credentials with another victory. Rovers have had a dismal run and it is difficult to see them getting much from this trip, even though they have collected three away wins this season.

RECOMMENDATION: Falkirk

KEY STAT: Aberdeen have lost one of their last 13 league matches that have not been against Celtic

EXPERT VERDICT: The Dons have their eyes firmly fixed on at least finishing second but a 4-0 reverse against Partick Thistle was Inverness's first defeat in 11 home matches so it won't be an easy trip to Caledonian Stadium. However, Aberdeen striker Adam Rooney is in excellent form with six goals in his last eight matches and he should be backed to net the first goal.

RECOMMENDATION: A Rooney first goalscorer

NHL Grand Salami - December

The Grand Salami in pro hockey is decided by adding up all the goals scored in every game scheduled for that particular day. You can wager on 'over' or 'under' the Grand Salami total. The total is set by adding up all listed 'over/under' odds for each game on that particular day.

Note: The Grand Salami will have no action if any game is suspended or cancelled before the regulation time of three twenty minute periods. Also, regardless of the number of goals scored during the shoot out portion of the overtime, the final scored recorded for the game will give the winning team on more goal than its opponent based on the score at the end of regulation time.

*The majority of sportsbooks do not put out a total on the Grand Salami when there is only one game on the card. For tracking purposes, we will continue to show the 'over/under' for goals and combined goals scored on days with just one game.

NHL Preview: Jets (17-10) at Blackhawks (23-9)

Date: December 23, 2014 8:30 PM EDT

As the Chicago Blackhawks look to continue surging at home, their hearts remain heavy following the sudden passing of a popular member of the organization.

Playing through their grief, the Blackhawks try to win nine straight home games for the second time in three seasons Tuesday night against the Winnipeg Jets.

Hours after learning of the death of 34-year-old assistant equipment manager Clint Reif, Patrick Kane had a goal with two assists, Patrick Sharp added three assists and backup Antti Raanta made 31 saves in Sunday's 4-0 home victory over Toronto.

In his ninth season with the Blackhawks (23-9-2), Reif was found unresponsive in his home Sunday morning. He was with the team Saturday night for their 3-2 shootout loss at Columbus.

"It's not every day that you have to go through something like that," defenseman Duncan Keith, a close friend of Reif, told the Blackhawks' official website.

As the organization continues to process the situation, the players feel as if they've lost one of their own.

"(Reif) was just a selfless person," said captain Jonathan Toews, who has four goals and seven assists during a six-game home point streak. "He was never thinking about himself, (always) thinking about how he could help others. He's part of our team. He might as well have been wearing one of these sweaters."

With Reif on their mind, the Blackhawks won for the 16th time in 20 games and improved to 12-3-1 at the United Center.

In its last eight home contests, Chicago owns a 33-14 goal advantage, has a power-play goal in four straight and killed 22 of 24 penalties. The Blackhawks won nine straight during the lockout-shortened 2012-13 season.

Kane has four goals with six assists during a six-game overall point streak, and five with eight while also recording at least a point in six straight at home

Raanta, who recorded his third career shutout, has a 1.60 goals-against average during a five-game winning streak - all at home - but it's uncertain if he'll make his first appearance against the Jets (17-10-7) with Corey Crawford back from missing eight games with a leg injury.

Crawford, who made 17 saves in his return Saturday, stopped 44 of 47 shots while Chicago dropped the last two at home versus Winnipeg. Former Blackhawk Michael Frolik scored on Crawford 20 seconds into the Jets' 1-0 road win Nov. 2, the lone matchup this season.

Winnipeg got 33 saves from backup Michael Hutchinson, who has a 1.39 GAA during a 4-0-2 road span beginning with that contest.

The Jets are amid a 3-0-3 road stretch, but look to bounce back after blowing a two-goal lead in Sunday's 4-3 overtime home defeat to Philadelphia. It was the second game Winnipeg played without Mark Stuart (lower-body injury), who joins other injured defensemen Jacob Trouba, Zach Bogosian and Toby Enstrom. All of whom likely won't return until next month.

'We're just starting this process,' Jets coach Paul Maurice said of dealing with another injury along the blue line.

"It will be a great test (Tuesday). If you kick the puck into the neutral zone on Chicago all night, they're going to get too many chances."

Ex-Blackhawk Dustin Byfuglien moved back to his natural defenseman position and recorded first goal in six games. He has none in four games at the United Center as a visitor.

Teammate Mathieu Perreault has a goal in two straight contests and three with four assists during a seven-game point streak.

NHL roundup: Three more Pens tested for mumps
By THE SPORTS XCHANGE

Pittsburgh Penguins forwards Brandon Sutter and Steve Downie and goaltender Thomas Greiss were sent back home from Florida to be tested for mumps.

General manager Jim Rutherford said Monday the three returned to Pittsburgh. They were with the Penguins on the trip and will be placed in isolation pending test results.

The Penguins play at the Florida Panthers on Monday night.

Penguins center Sidney Crosby, winger Beau Bennett and defenseman Olli Maatta have already dealt with the illness, which has affected more than a dozen players across the league over the past month.

The Penguins recalled goaltender Jeff Zatkoff from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League to serve as the backup goalie to Marc-Andre Fleury.

"I think I'm becoming a medical expert," coach Mike Johnston said. "I don't really want to be."

---The Washington Capitals recalled left winger Aaron Volpatti and center Andre Burakovsky from the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League.

Volpatti, who had been assigned to Hershey on a long-term injury/illness exception conditioning loan, will return to the Capitals' injured nonroster list and long-term injury list.

Volpatti, 29, has missed 27 games with Washington this season with an upper-body injury. The 6-foot-1, 203-pound Volpatti appeared in three games with the Bears this season. He tallied 13 points (three goals, 10 assists) and 97 penalty minutes in 64 career AHL games with Manitoba and Hershey.

Burakovsky, 19, has appeared in 26 games with the Capitals this season.

---The Arizona Coyotes recalled defenseman Brandon Gormley from the Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League.

The 22-year-old native of Murray River, Prince Edward Island has registered one goal and four penalty minutes in six games with the Coyotes this season. The 6-foot-2, 196-pound Gormley has recorded one goal and two assists in nine games with the Pirates.

Gormley was originally drafted by the Coyotes in the first round (13th overall) in the 2010 draft.

Blackhawks continue to go under totals
Andrew Caley

With their 4-0 shutout win over the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Chicago Blackhawks continue to go under totals this season.

It was the fourth time in the last five games the Blackhawks have gone under the total and they are now the second best under bet in the NHL at 8-19 over/under. The only team ahead of Chicago is Nashville at 8-20 O/U.

The Blackhawks rank first in the NHL in goals against average at just 1.9 goals per game.

NBA Preview: Trail Blazers (22-7) at Thunder (13-15)

Date: December 23, 2014 8:00 PM EDT

The Oklahoma City Thunder struggle greatly without Kevin Durant, and that was certainly the case in their season opener against the Portland Trail Blazers.

The Thunder may be without Durant again Tuesday night as they try to continue their home success against the Trail Blazers, who could be without LaMarcus Aldridge.

A broken right foot and a sprained ankle have left Oklahoma City (13-15) without Durant for 19 games this season, and the team has dropped 13 of them. That includes a 106-89 loss at Portland (22-7) on Oct. 29 in which the Thunder also were missing Reggie Jackson, Jeremy Lamb and Anthony Morrow.

They shot just 40.7 percent in that meeting, connecting on 2 of 16 from beyond the arc. They were particularly poor in the fourth quarter, getting outscored 31-12 while making 5 of 19 shots and missing all five from long range.

Oklahoma City averages just 92.1 points without the reigning MVP compared to 106.2 with him.

It's unclear if Durant will miss a third straight game with his ankle injury, and the Thunder have split the last two after falling 101-99 to New Orleans on Sunday. They failed to score in the final 3:46, and Russell Westbrook missed a 3 in the final seconds.

The All-Star guard finished with 29 points, but only five came in the final quarter as he went 2 for 9 from the floor with no assists and two turnovers. He was 8 for 18 with eight assists and four turnovers before that.

That was reminiscent of Westbrook's performance against the Trail Blazers two months ago. He scored what's still his season high of 38 points, but shot 1 of 6 and had two points and no assists in the fourth quarter.

Westbrook has just 10 fourth-quarter assists this season, and he's shooting 36.2 percent. He's connecting on 48.9 percent of his field goals in the first 36 minutes.

"I'm not going to keep answering questions about me not passing now when we lose," Westbrook said. "When we won eight (actually seven) in a row, nobody said nothing about not passing, so I don't want to hear it now.

"My job is to attack when the fourth quarter comes. My job is to stay in attack mode and try to score and try to make plays happen. If I miss, I miss. I'm going to live and die by that every time, every night, regardless of what happens."

Westbrook is averaging 27.8 points over his last six home meetings with Portland, but injuries sidelined him for the last two.

Durant, meanwhile, totaled 83 points in those matchups, pouring in 46 in a 105-97 victory Jan. 21 as Oklahoma City won for the sixth time in eight home meetings.

While the Thunder await word on Durant's status, the Trail Blazers are in the same situation with Aldridge. An upper-respiratory illness forced the forward to miss Monday's 110-95 loss at Houston, which ended Portland's winning streak at five.

"They outplayed us," guard Damian Lillard said. "They played a better game than we did."

Aldridge has averaged 26.5 points and 13.3 rebounds in his last six games, and he scored 27 in the first meeting with the Thunder. The catalyst to the comeback in that one was Wesley Matthews, who hit three 3-pointers in the fourth and finished with 22 points.

Lillard had a season-low 10 points in that contest. He's averaging 14.9 points and shooting just 34.8 percent in nine career games against Oklahoma City, both his lowest against any Western Conference opponent.

Hornets take their road woes into Milwaukee
Stephen Campbell

The Charlotte Hornets, owners of a 8-19 straight-up record, will hit the road once again in Milwaukee Tuesday.

Victories have been hard to come by away from home for Kemba Walker's crew, as they've collected just two wins outside of Raleigh this season.

The Bucks - who rank as the top spread play in the Association - are currently listed as 6.5-point faves. The total is sitting at 199.

Cavs snap ATS losing streak, face Wolves Tuesday
Stephen Campbell

With a 105-91 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies Sunday, the Cleveland Cavaliers effectively ended their skid against the spread.

King James and company entered the contest on a six game ATS losing streak but easily covered as -4.5 faves over a depleted Grizzlies squad.

The Cavs will be in action once again on Tuesday when they welcome the lowly Minnesota Timberwolves to town. The line for the game is currently off the board.

Pistons still struggling to cover
Andrew Caley

With the Detroit Pistons' 110-105 loss to the Brooklyn Nets on Sunday, the Pistons failed to cover the spread for the fourth straight game.

The Pistons are ice cold against the spread, going 3-10 ATS in their last 13 games. That puts Detroit in the basement when it comes to covering the spread with an NBA worst 8-20 record ATS this season.

Detroit is off for their Christmas break and don't play until Boxing Day when they host the Indiana Pacers.

Another hot week ATS for the Bucks
Andrew Caley

The Milwaukee Bucks were a hot ticket last week, going 4-0 against the spread as they continue to be the Associations best bet.

Even with the absence of super rookie Jabari Parker, the Bucks have continued to consistently cover spreads and are now 20-8 ATS on the season. The next best bet has been Golden State at 17-8 ATS.

The Bucks will look to stay hot when they welcome the Charlotte Hornets to town Tuesday night.

# 4 WHATWILLHEBE 5/2

SPINMEISTER is the most favorable wager in this race. The consortium noted a very compelling affair out of this fine animal last time. Looking for a repeat of that to win. Drawing the 5 post at this track has lead to a much better than average win clip. SUPERFICIAL - Has nice TrackMaster SRs and very likely has to be thought of for a play in this one. Good for a win wager just off the top notch prior class rankings. Have to like this interesting entrant. WHATWILLHEBE - Running well, achieved a substantial speed rating in his last race (73). You have to support a horse that wins regularly, very impressive win stat.

# 3 CRANK IT UP 5/2

# 8 ALERO BLUE CHIP 9/2

# 7 WESTERN FELLA 15/1

CRANK IT UP is the clear stand out wager in the eyes of the number crunching team. Would appear to have a chance at being helped now going off Lasix here. Heads into this competition with very nice TrackMaster class figures relative to the group of horses - could be worth a shot. ALERO BLUE CHIP - The handicapping team knows that speed is very important in harness racing. This solid standardbred will unlock our way to a nice victory. Squaring off quite well, recorded a substantial speed rating in his most recent race (82). WESTERN FELLA - With a 82 average class stat, this harness racer has one of the best class advantages in the group of horses. This entrant recorded a really good speed figure in last race. Looks to be going well to come right back.

# 2 ROYAL SQUEEZE 3/1

# 8 SAHAM 4/1

# 3 MADEFROMLUCKY 8/1

I like ROYAL SQUEEZE here. He has recorded very good figs under today's conditions and ought to fare well versus this group of horses. Had one of the top speed figures of this group in his last race. Has to be considered a contender on earnings per start at the distance/surface alone. SAHAM - Displays the look of a money-making play, averaging a solid 86 speed figure which is one of the best in this group of horses. Solid profits have been scored by players using this rider and handler tandem as of late. MADEFROMLUCKY - Will probably be one of the early speedsters of the pack going into the midpoint of the outing. Has run strongly when racing a dirt route race.

RECOMMENDED CHOICES

The Walker Group Picks

# 3 DONITA'S RULER 3/1

# 7 SWEET ABANDON 5/2

# 2 DRESS UP 8/1

DONITA'S RULER is my choice. Win percentage under similar conditions may be the key for this filly. She looks solid in this slot and I expect will be on the lead or close at the halfway point. Garnered a sound Equibase Speed Fig in the most recent race. Can run another good one in this race. SWEET ABANDON - I expect a very good performance from this horse whose handler has one of the best return on investment percentages with horses running at this distance and surface. Garnered a solid speed fig in the last race. Can run another good one in this race. DRESS UP - With Batista controlling the reins on her, this filly ought to be able to break out early in this contest. The speed rating of 86 from her latest race looks very good in here.

#1 SILLY PEACH (ML=3/1)

SILLY PEACH - Have to give this filly a shot. Ran a solid race last time out within the last month or so. She keeps getting closer at the finish with each and every start. Three consecutive improved speed ratings (47-71-77) make this thoroughbred a dominant contender.

Vulnerable Contenders: #6 TOUCH OF FAITH (ML=9/5), #7 GOLDEN BUCKET (ML=5/2), #3 DANKEE'S DANCE (ML=5/1),

TOUCH OF FAITH - This racer will in all probability be near the back of the pack as this field crosses the finish line. GOLDEN BUCKET - Finished third last time out of the box. Would have to advance to finish in the money in today's event. Finished third in her most recent effort with a pedestrian speed figure. When I look at today's class figure, it would take an improved performance to score after that in this group. DANKEE'S DANCE - This mare is always in the money, but just doesn't finish on top. Difficult to wager on her on the front end. Registered a mediocre speed fig last time around the track in a $6,250 Claiming race on Dec 12th. Improbable to see an improved performance off of that number.

STRAIGHT WAGERS:
Have to go with #1 SILLY PEACH on the win end if we get at least 1/1 odds

KEY STAT: West Ham have failed to score in just two of their 17 games this season

EXPERT VERDICT: Stamford Bridge has returned to being the fortress it was in Jose Mourinho's first spell at the helm with Chelsea boasting a perfect eight home wins from eight in the Premier League. However, West Ham have failed to score in just two games this campaign and should make life uncomfortable for the hosts before class tells.

RECOMMENDATION: Chelsea to win 2-1
