Oak -143: Mulder is 8-2. After the first two games of the season he's thrown 4 CG games, pitched 8 inn twice and 7 inn 3 times. Penny is good too but only pitched 6 innings in each of his last 4 starts. The Fla bullpen has a 1.43 WHIP.

I really like the Mercury in this spot as double digit dogs. They are a defensive minded team that is 3rd in the league in points allowed as they are giving up only 63.3 points per game. I love getting a dog with good defense & alot of points as points are hard to come by which only helps us out here. The bad part of this situation though is the fact that the Mercury are last in points scored at a pathetic 54.3 but even looking at the charts they are 9 points in the hole & we have a spread almost double that.

The Comets will be coming into this game looking for a win as they have dropped 2 contests in a row. They are looking to avoid falling into a bigger hole as they are in 4th place in the West & at the same time are trying not to make history. In their 6+ seasons, the Comets have never lost 3 games in a row. They also don't want to have to play some serious catchup as their main threat in the west LA, has jumped out to a 4-0 start. They understand this is a winnable & must have game as they have some tough games upcoming against conference foes as 7 of their next 10 are against teams in the west.

Houston clearly looked out of sorts against the Lynx over the weekend without Tina Thompson & they do get her services back tonight but I don't think that will help them to cover here. The Mercury are catching the Comets at a good time as their health isn't in the best of shape right now. Sheryl Swoopes rolled up her ankle towards the end of practice yesterday when she snatched a rebound. She went down in pain & had to be helped to the trainers room. Cynthia Cooper who has gotten her feet back under her after back to back 20+ point efforts also got dinged up in practice yesterday as she suffered a slight shoulder injury & appeared to be in some pain. She as well as Swoopes will both give it a go tonight but I doubt they will be 100%.

Coach John Shumate knows patience is needed as he is a rookie head coach who is installing a new system with new players as only 3 Mercury players remain from last year's team but he seems happy with how things are progressing & feels confident by the end of the season they will have made a nice mark. I personally don't see Phoenix winning this game but with the injuries the Comets are dealing with, the depth factor advantage they will have as Houston only plans on playing 8 while the Mercury will probably play their entire team, & knowing they have played Houston tough earlier this season, the Mercury should hang around tonight & get the cover.
