I'm curious to see if some of these other schools go after Tuberville. I still think he's a good coach that just had one bad year. This reminds me a little bit of what happend to Cucliffe at Ole Miss. One bad year and he was gone.

This is a mistake. I think this goes way beyond the field and appears to be a power play by either someone in the admin or a donor.

I think this guy does a good job and he will be coaching somewhere if he wants next year.

It is being reported that Petrino and Leach are or have interviewed. Things are getting ridiculous in the SEC coaching world. A Hall of Fame coach fired at Tenn and now Tuberville at Auburn.

Two board of trustees McWhorter and Rane led the way by raising the buyout money.

this has way more going on than just the 2008 season. Auburn board of trustees and Tubs were not on speaking terms since the 2003 Jetgate incident. A few of these people are very very wealthy and powerful in Alabama. Also Pat Dye did not like Tubs. Tubs is famous for all those wins over top 10 and top 5 teams, but the media always leaves out the fact that he lost at home as a 17 point fav over a miss st or other school the previous week and not to mention his staple of getting blown out at home at least once every year (minus 2004). Tubs didnt want to be at Auburn anymore and it was apparent this year. His attitude and demeanor on and off the field was different, he would never let go of any of his assistants and many of those coaches couldnt land a D-1 job anywhere else, he also put his name in the hat for the Arkansas job last year among others. This was just a bad marriage between tubs and the university but most people do not know all this garbage unless you live in state....that is just the top of the crop too..there is a whole lot more

tubs is a happy man, he walks away with a 6 million buyout. 3 mil of which he will get in the next 30 days. I think he wanted to be fired.

Petrino hasn't and isn't interviewing for the Auburn job. Where is this being reported?

Petrino has a non-compete in his contract so he cant leave for AU. Not to mention the 3M buyout he has.

Lots of talk around Mike Leach. If they don't get him they are in a heap of trouble.

Tubby isnt a great recruiter and Saban mopped the floor with him in one year. This was a bit preemptive, but there's no viable replacement IMO.

Looks like tubs will end up at miss st.

If Petrino leaves ark then he will owe them the rest of his contract, 11.4mil

I don't think Auburn wouldve fired tubs if they didnt have someone lined up like leach. Even though leach has been a mediocre coach until this year.

Im not sold it's the right thing, the grass isn't always greener on the other side, but honestly Im tired of the same ol shit year after year with him. Will he go, will he stay. He and his staff have gotten fat, happy, and lazy. Like it was said, the trustees and Tubs have not been on good terms. Bad Marraige is a good analogy, because it's like a man and wife who hate each other but stay together "for the kids". We would continue with these conversations every year.

Whether it is a good or bad decision won't be known for a while, but AU clearly needed fresh energy and a new direction.

This was a couple of seasons in the making. It finally happened. It's a shock to some, others saw it coming, doesn't matter. A good coach is gone, what will AU become? I did report this before Halloween, lol, but the question is, what will AU football become? What was once a West power will become a also ran, imo.. Think about it, Ark and Miss being better than AU, really????? On a long term basis? Thats a bad question to even ask ask of AU football..

5 barn commits pulled out today ... their football program is in a tailspin. Not sure if they can lure muschamp back but I'd assume he's top choice

Tailspin, really? I think it's a little early for that. It depends on who they hire and how the process goes. You bammers should know all about that. How many coaches did you have to go thru before you got it right? 4? In two years you came from the garbage heap to the top of the game and you did it with mostly Shula's players. Although you were quick to blame last year's debacle on Shula's players, I don't see you giving him any credit now.

It's all cyclical. It is rare for a team to continue to stay at a high level for long periods of time in football today. Like somebody said before where does AU go, with Richt at UGA, Meyer at UF and Saban at UA, I don't think holding the status quo would work. AU needs new energy and a new mindset to stay in the arms race with those three. I think the adminstration is being more proactive than reactive.

BTW, I think the SEC championship game is one of the most interesting games in a long time. Like UA +10 a bunch. It's old school vs new school in the SEC.

Don't hold me to it, but I've heard on local radio from somebody who is close to Houston Nutt that Auburn could be looking at getting him. I know it sounds a little far fetched since he's only been at Ole Miss for a year. I know one thing, anybody who gets Houston Nutt it will be an automatic improvement to their team. He's the prototype southern coach. And they would be very lucky to get him.

And that name, "Houston Nutt" doesn't hurt either.

The name "Tuberville" has a nice pleasant "ring" to it, perhaps too pleasant.
