Be careful what you wish for folks, Smarty is no shoe-in. Although, I am rooting for him as I think it would be great for racing, it would not surprise me to see him fade in the long stretch at Belmont and see that beauty of a horse Rock Hard Ten stride right past him.

Rock Hard Ten is the best looking horse I think I have ever seen. The only other one that could compare is Secretariat. Of course, he can't run like Secretariat, but no one ever has.

i would not say lock. needs to stay out of trouble not get bounced around at the start. He will be a tired horse and wear and tear could hurt him. Id say he is 60-40 to win. I really really hope he does it.

Nine have won the first two legs since Affirmed last won the Crown in 1978. Imo, these five Belmont horses rated the strongest chances at the Crown over the past 25 years.

Silver Charm in '97.

Sunday Silence in '89.

Alysheba in '87.

Pleasant Colony in '81.

Spectacular Bid in '79.

Imo, a weak group of three year olds this go round except for one. No one even made a run at Smarty in either the Derby or Preakness. He hit his best stride down the lane in both races, appeared to be really enjoying himself. Observed no laboring whatsoever. The Jock apparently fits him well. Big chance in the Belmont. He looks to go off around 2-5. Can't fade that. If I have the five why do I need the two, at least from a horse race that is. Cold exactas figure a players best chance. Or maybe a Rio contest? Say pick the first five or six across the line in order.

Only 2 groups of people would refer to any horse race a a "lock" 1. Fools 2. Fixers.

I'm rooting 100% for Smarty J. The story of the horse is one movies are made of! The owners are good folks as seems his racing team.

Saw on ebay where a $2. win ticket (uncashed on Smarty was bringing over $150).
Go Smarty. May the force be with YOU!

On the money oldmantime. I would go into the pitfalls, which I know you know, but I don't want to jinx Smarty. BOL.

The Belmont is a long race on a VEREY LARGE track! Will Mr. Jones go to the lead ala Secretariat or will he sit patiently till the far turn?? I'm hoping he wins for racing but there will be a few horses coming after him in the stretch! UNDEFEATED WOW what a horse! A TRUE CHAMPION!

Smarty Jones convinced me in the Preakness of how good of a horse he is.However there are no locks, especially in horse racing.Like to see the field before making any guesses.

Certainly isnt a "lock". He has looked the best of what looks like a lackluster crop of 3 year olds this year. But we are still 2 weeks away from the race. He has to at least get in the gate first, alot happens to horses in a short period of time so, no he isn't a lock though I would enjoy watching him win. Have been disapointed to many times in the last decade to even get exited about a Triple Crown Winner.

Out of all the recent triple crown possibilities,I think he definately has the best chance.Personally believe he is a much better horse than,Funny Cide,War Emblem,or Charisma.

i said in a thread last week, if Smarty jones is allowed to run his type of race (stalking trip) he will win easily.....

but if made to set the pace or make his move too early...he could very easily falter..(key race arkansas derby, made his move early...place horse was gaining ground)

but after talking with several trainers, who say since the race will not have a true speed horse (lion heart)....Smarty jones will likely be the horse in front setting fractions....and they say he still should win easily.....head and shoulders above the rest of the 3yr olds at the present time one trainer said...

i will still try to beat him though.....gl
