Top rate increases to at least 39.6% by repealing Bush's tax cuts, BO probably pushes them higher.

Throw in the phase out of this deduction and the phase out of that credit and the AMT, marginal rates higher still.

Medicare tax of 1.45
Social Security tax of 6.2% for those spouses earning less than 100k and a 53% marginal rate is well within reach.

Add in federal excise taxes on telephones & gas, and 53% might be too low.
