BASELINE: BALL STATE 64% TULSA 36% SCORE 44-39
Two of the nation’s highest scoring teams will square off in Mobile, Alabama in the second to last game of the season. While neither team got the complete storybook ending it wanted with both losing in conference championship games, they both had successful teams that marked each program as a serious player in the college football.
Ball State is projected to win nearly two-thirds of the time by an average score of 44-39. The Cardinals are losing their coach, and could lose quarterback Nate Davis to the NFL as well so this game could be a real swan song for the greatest season in school history. Davis is projected for more than 280 yards and three touchdowns with just one interception. His forecasted QB rating is a sterling 161. Running back MiQuale Lewis is one of the more under-the-radar good players in the country, and is projected for nearly 150 yards rushing and 1.5 touchdowns.
Tulsa is the second highest scoring offense in the nation with over 47 points per game, but averaged just 25.7 points in its three losses. The good thing for the Golden Hurricanes is that they are projected for nearly 40 points in this one. It is the defense that is failing them in simulations. Quarterback David Johnson is projected for 255 yards and at least two touchdown passing as well as two interceptions. Running back Tarrion Adams is forecasted for more than 90 yards rushing. Johnson’s interceptions will have a big effect on this game as Ball State is winning the turnover battle by one in simulations.
