Tomlin going for 2 pts screwed his team instead of losing by 1 they would be tied.

he is not a very smart coach. wonder how his team wins sometimes with him coaching

They were up by 5 at the time, you go for 2 to make it 7. It was the right call at the time.

It was 15-0 at the time Bengals had 0 pts he got greedy by trying to make it a 3 score game
he screwed his team and got bailed out by the Bengals losing their head

So he goes for the xp and makes it 16-0. Bengals score a TD and then get a FG to make it 16-10. When Cincy scored their final TD they would have just kicked the XP and would still have been ahead by 1.

Sorry but you're wrong here. It was 100% correct to go for 2.

If Pittsburgh kicks the XP, its 16-0. Bengals score 7 then 3 for 10. Next TD they kick XP. 17-16. They don't go for 2 and miss if Pittsburgh kicks the XP.

Go for 2, you make it 17 and it would have been 17-17.

Missing the 2 pt conv at 15-0 would not have cost them the game if it ended 16-15. If they make the 2pt its 17-17 and a great decision.

Absolutely true. Tomlin had it dead right. Bad weather made this an even easier decision.

No you idiots you take the points. Hindsight is 20/20. It's 15 -0. You kick the extra point so the bengals have to score 2 tds plus 2 2point conversions. In the weather conditions and how the bengals offense struggled you take the points. Not to mention if cincy would have converted that 2 point conversion the steelers only tie the game with that last minute fg. Tomlin is a horrible in game coach he's done this all year

Hindsight is 20/20. That's why this thread was stated so late.

winitall..I believe he is referring to the attempt at 15-0when Tomlin wished to make it 17-0 to put his team 3 major scores up.

It IS THE WRONG CALL I respectfully submit. Far too early in the game and if the opponent gets to 15-7 they are only one TD and a two pt. conversion from tying. In a defensive slugfest in heavy rain where the opponent's rookie TD was having a hard time with both grip and release you take the single and force them to make TWO TDS and TWO 2 pt. conversions-highly unlikely or odds are that never develops and they eventually need the extra FG to catch PIT.

If the score had been 16-0, then the first Cinci score in the 4th quarter of a downpour would have made it 16-6 or 16-8, not 16-7.

There was a risk in Tomlin going for two at that point and trying to go up 3 scores, and you can question whether it was too early to try and create a 3 score mountain to overcome, but there was a definite reward if it succeeded. It was not a brain dead decision that costs him any credibility as an in-game coach, whatever his other deficiencies in that area.

T Hawk, when I first read the title of your post, I thought it was going to be because he held off on putting Roethlisberger in. He looked decent enough when he replaced Landry on that last drive, and I believe he was out of the locker room and available on the previous possession. With that said, I agree with your assessment on the extra point vs two point conversion. Admittedly, I continuously scratch my head on a myriad of decision these "professional" coaches make.

Hard to say the game would've been tied if Pitt had kicked the XP. If they did, it would've been 16-0 and Cinci would've likely gone for 2 after their first TD. Had Cinci kicked the XP, followed by a FG (making it 16-10), they never would've gone for two after the AJ Green TD. Was Tomlin's decision the right one? A case could probably be made either way.

Easy enough to go through it, Shorty. Cinn scores and 2 pt conversion is unsuccessful. Now they're down by 10. If Cinn scores a FG and TD after that, they clearly aren't going to go for two and are now tied 16-16. If the 2pt conversion is good, then they try it again on the next TD score and are either tied 16-16, or are down 16-15 and need another score. However to T Hawk's point, it's not that likely they are successful twice on two 2 pt conversions.
