Tino has hit 2 HR's so far today. I find that amazing.

Ortiz has one, let's hope he matches Tino!

Real bright move letting him go to Tampa to make way for Giambi. One of several great clutch hitters Yanks had in late 90's run. As good as any of them when it counts. Its not how many you hit its when you hit them and Tino's over-all stats with Mariners and Yanks always underestimated his value to team.
Of course, George and Cashman firured he was over-the-hill when they let him go. Worst assessment of talent since Reds said Frank Robinson was an 'old 30' and traded him for nothing to Orioles.

Is this the same Tino that is part of a bunch of old washed up and overpaid Yankees that can't hit any more? Wow what a difference 10 days can make.

hindsight is 20-20, guys. no one in their right mind would have kept tino instead of getting Giambi at that point in time.

A lot of people 'in their right mind' would have kept him at that point. But, the luxury of being able to overwhelmingly out-bid any one has turned Cashman's baseball mind soft. Just because you can buy all the 'glamour' picks in a given year doesn't mean they are always the best way to go. He could have bought a lot of good young pitchers for what he paid for Giambi.

And I don't for one second believe The Boss and Cashman didn't know about Giambi's steroid and other problems. With all that loot certainly they have a detective or two to do some rudimentary background work on prospective players. Did they transfer George Costanza from assistant traveling sec'y to do
background checks?

Tino The Bambino..my favorite Yank of the last decade..and I'm not a Yank fan.

A consumate pro and team guy, with a beautiful lefty homerun swing.

Tino was intentionally walked twice after hitting the 2 home runs.
