Philly +5
Take a look at Philly's schedule so far this year and you'll notice one thing: one bad loss followed by one impressive win. What happened last night? Blown out by the feeble Heat. I'm expecting the 76ers to get their act together tonight and play alot better than last night.
As far as the matchup itself goes, I like how Philly fares against the Magic. Dalembert and Brand are monsters down low, and they effectively mitigate Dwight Howard's impact. Andre Miller and Andre Iguodala clearly form a better backcourt duo than Jameer Nelson and Michael Pietrus, and even though Turkoglu is a better player than Thaddeus Young, I love Young's ability to bang inside and outside and create things for his team.
Orlando loves to shoot the 3 ball but I like Philly's perimeter defence, so I'm not expecting the Magic to go buck wild and hit like 12 triples tonight. I also give the nod to Philly's bench over Orlando's, which will be key in a back-to-back game for the 76ers where their starters might need a few more minutes to rest at certain points in the 2nd and 3rd quarters.
Houston -5
I normally hate betting against the Blazers when they are at home. But Houston matchups up extremely well so I feel comfortable laying chalk here.
Who can guard Yao? Nobody. TMac cancels out BRoy IMO. Then you look at Portland's athletic swingmen and off guards like Outlaw, Fernandez and Batum....they have to go up against Artest and Battier. That doesn't bode well considering Artest and Battier are 2 of the premier lock down defenders.
Houston can knock down the 3 ball almost as well as Portland if not just as well, and they have a good bench to match up with the Blazers. As we all know, the Blazers' depth is one of its strengths and Houston has that aplenty.
Furthermore, Houston's killer instinct was unleashed vs. Boston, as they put up a pretty decent effort against the defending champs. It's hard to imagine them following up a gritty effort by playing down to the level of the Blazers.
Essentially, Houston has everything that Portland has and then some, and are just a quality team to boot. Call me a square for taking this line if you must, but I really like the Rockets here.
Both plays are 1 unit, gonna try to grind my way up the profit ladder after going 2-2 the last couple days.
GL to everybody tonight :toast:
