I know this was touched upon somewhat in another thread before the series odds were up, but out of curiousity, who do you guys think will take this one? Obviously I am pulling for the fish due to my 400-1 futures bet. I truly think the fish can pull it off.....they find ways to win and have amazing chemistry. The cubs offence isn't all that special, but their pitching is outstanding. The marlins will have to get some remarkable performances out of their starters and use their speed on the basebaths to their advantage. Any thoughts?

unless kerry wood falls apart, it will be very tough for the marlins to win. i too have a futures bet on florida (not at 400-1 though...nice odds!) and think they can win this series. i just think wood & borowski will not continue to pitch this way. they have to face prior twice and wood at least once...that leaves no room for error against zambrano & clement. of course, i could be wrong. i've been wrong before once or twice.

i hedged my bets this morning on the cubs (it was quite painful to say those words). my personal opinion is that -190 is highway robbery but, like a beer at wrigley that costs $5.50, i had to pay it. i left enough room so i can still root for the marlins.

go fish!

Bobby Cox was a complete coward not protecting Sheffield. Prior needs to beaned in the head, period.

FWIW Dontrelle Willis was lit up like a Christmas tree the last time the Cubs faced him in Fla.

Dont forget, Willis was pitching real good until an hour rain delay in that game. Don't read too much into it.

If you think Prior was throwing at Sheffield then you're a complete idiot. Obviously he wasn't. The pitch was barely inside but look at the way Sheff throws his hands around in the zone -- it's a wonder that doesn't happen to him contantly. If teams "protected" every time a player got hit it would be madness. Think a little.

The only play that may have deserved retaliation was Robert Fick's cheap shot on Eric Karros at first base. But the Cubs did the right thing in not doing that. Fick got what was coming to him in being fined 25K by the league and also fined by the team. It was a class move by Cox to fine him and call him out. Cox is a class act.

I like spirit of the Marlins but Cubs with Prior and Wood (and maybe even Zambrano) will carry NLCS with pitching.

Do you think Cox really wanted to start throwing at a team with Wood, Prior, Zambrano, and Farnsworth? All these guys can hit 97mph.

With the off day on Thurs. Baker should be able to throw Wood after Prior in game 3, and that will set them up for games 6 and 7.
Cubs will win this series.

I guess its un-American to even entertain thoughts of betting the Fish here

Amazing to me how many people will still bet the Cubs. Look, the writing is on the wall here. Books worldwide have liability on the Cubs and are out to even up their books as best as they can. Lets not waste words here, they are pricing the Cubs way out of any reasonable price and would love to write you a ticket on the Marlins. So even if you like the Cubs, betting on them right now makes no sense unless you feel like its your duty to overpay for them or you think betting on them brings good karma. I think its simple, you either bet the Marlins or you pass.

WildBill, you've overlooked the other obvious reason to bet the Marlins - to partially hedge a large WS futures bet on the Cubs

Well true, these unbelievable prices people got should be protected. No other reason though. I still want to find these people that gave 400-1!!!

intrangible factor of Pudge's will to win, McKeon getting the kids to believe they CANNOT lose, and Cubs looking over their shoulders at history will cause the Marlins to defeat the Cubs in 6 or 7.

Everyone is counting on Prior getting two wins like it's a sure thing, don't forget he's VERY young, practically a rookie. PRESSURE PRESSURE>

Stop with the pressure thing about Prior. He's proved over and over that it doesn't mean a thing. The guy is nails. That's all there is to it. Doesn't matter if he's 23 or 33. I would agree if you said that about Zambrano, but not Prior, seriously. McKeon may have Florida beleiving they can't lose, but Baker has done the same with his team.

It's going to come down to Florida not having a clunker against either Zambrano or Clement and somehow stealing one against Prior or Wood with a great pitching performance by Penny or Redman. I never like to call anything early but if Florida loses tonight they might as well become +400 for the series with the prospect of Prior and Wood handing them a 3-0 deficit. Game 1 is a "must win" for Florida.

And if you're worried about young, inexperienced pitching, ummmm, what about Florida... Beckett? Penny? Willis! for goodness sake? And Redman too.

But somehow the young guns of Wood and Prior beat the grizzly vets of Ortiz, Hampton, Maddux who had the best hitting team in the league.

Wildbill, I agree the books probably are TRYING to balance and funny thing is they probably can't even at the current number. lol But I agree, I wouldn't bet the Cubs at the price of -200 for the series even though I think they will win...fortunately I don't have to to have the action.

400-1 is some serious coin for a future. I hope whoever was offering that has a thick wallet. I would be betting big against the fish to lock in some profit. Of course I am routing for the Marlins and have tickets for the games this weekend. Good luck Peteep

Bobby Cox is a wife beater an alcholic and a loser. My good freind Ryan Klesko said his favorite part of being an Atlanta
Brave was leaving, getting away from Bobby and Mazzone.
