Hurting for safety depth, the Jets worked out free agent Cooper Taylor (Giants) on Tuesday. They're down to two healthy safeties, Marcus Gilchrist and Dion Bailey. They also worked out RB Jeff Demps (Bucs), RB Akeem Hunt (Giants) and WR Larry Pinkard (Packers). They brought in DE Quanterus Smith (Broncos) for a visit.

The Giants have reached agreement with DE Jason Pierre-Paul on a contract for the remainder of this season, bringing resolution to an ordeal that began when he severely damaged his hand in a July 4 fireworks accident. Pierre-Paul's deal is heavy on incentives tied to how much of the remainder of this season he's able to play. The Giants hope he can get into shape to play by Week 10 or Week 12. Said JPP in an Instagram post: "I'd like to take the time out to thank God FIRST for giving me a second opportunity to play football."

[/h]The usual suspects still sit atop the heap, but keep an eye on the Dolphins, who jumped eight spots to No. 13.

[h=1]Fox: Terrelle Pryor is living on the brinkNFL

[/h]He's not quite good enough for a 53-man roster, not quite eligible for a practice squad. So a big, gifted athlete who has worked out for nine teams waits. But hey: At least Pryor has Randy Moss in his corner.

The Steve Weatherford era is over (again) after three days. The veteran punter was released this morning, the Jets announced. Weatherford admitted he had "a rough, rough day" Sunday in New England, where he replaced the injured Ryan Quigley (infected shin) on short notice. His release is an indication Quigley could be healthy enough to return.

For the first time since Sept. 11, Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant will take part in a practice, according to a source, but he is likely to be limited. That he will be on the field with his teammates is a positive sign toward playing Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks.

With the 3-4 Eagles sluggish on offense, Grantland's Bill Barnwell says it behooves Chip Kelly to stick with the quarterback he has while resisting the easy switch to a similarly skilled backup (Mark Sanchez).

About a year ago Jerry Jones said Johnny Manziel would've "guarantee[d] our relevance for 10 years." The "odd" boast from the Dallas owner, writes David Fleming, is "exactly the kind of nonsense we've all come to expect from Jones, who during the last 20 years has produced no great football but a ton of great quotes."

Saints coach Sean Payton said LSU's pro day last year had one of the most impressive WR workouts he's ever seen with Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry. Saints liked Beckham (whom they face this week vs. Giants) a lot, but figured he'd be out of their range. They wound up trading up to No. 20 for another WR they loved, Brandin Cooks.

Lions WR Calvin Johnson told reporters in England he doesn't necessarily have a favorite soccer team -- he's a big fan of the game -- but likes watching Manchester City, Manchester United and some Spanish clubs. Asked for a favorite player, Lionel Messi was the first name he brought up.
