This is why the Hochuli fumble rule change makes no sense.

The whistle blew the runner down, the players were all helping each other up to begin the next play, and 2 patriots are just standing next to the ball with their hands on their waists. Westbrook casually picks it up, Zorn challenges, and it's ruled a fumble recovery??? How can you give credit for any player recovering the fumble when everyone is just standing there under the impression the play is dead?

Thank YOU!! I just posted the same thing in another thread. Of course no one on New England tried to pick up the ball b/c they all thought the play was dead b/c of the whistle. That's kinda unfair to the offense in that situation.

Glad to see someone see's the same problem with this rule. No one is going to look for the ball because everytime they hear the whistle they just stop. Its not whistle, "where's the ball, i have to go pick it up" stupid

Yet all these guys, during every game, play through a whistle when they're tackling etc.... It should be burned in these guys brains that if the ball is just out there you need to be on it.

they should not blow a whistle and let the play runs its course, huddle for a second and make a call, down by contact or fumble, then allow the coaches to make a challenge if they want

The problem is the whistle gets blown for a reason. For when forward progress has ended and the runner isn't down yet, etc, or else plays like that end in chaos.

I'm a crybaby because I started a thread giving my opinion on a NFL rule that I feel makes little sense? I didn't have money on the Patriots tonight.
