(CNSNews.com) - The portion of the federal government’s debt that is held by the public—as opposed to the portion that is borrowed out of government trust funds such as the Social Security and Medicare trust funds—has more than doubled during President Barack Obama’s time in office, according to official data published by the U.S. Treasury.

Since Obama’s inauguration, the Treasury has increased the federal government’s debt held by the public by $6,739,201,661,284.21—or about $57,431.65 for each household in the United States.

Treasury Secretary Jack Lew said Thursday the U.S. debt limit will be exhausted Nov. 3, two days before previously estimated.

"At that point, we expect Treasury would be left with less than $30 billion to meet all of the nation's commitments — an amount far short of net expenditures on certain days, which can be as high as $60 billion," Lew said in a letter.
"Operating the United States government with no borrowing authority, and with only the cash on hand on a given day, would be profoundly irresponsible. As I wrote previously, we anticipate that a remaining cash balance of less than $30 billion would be depleted quickly," he said.


Lew also said the U.S. government would not be able to meet most of its obligations without a higher debt ceiling and thus urged Congress to raise it

As a leader Obama he been good for, uh, himself.

Republicans control the Senate (54-44) and the House of Representatives (247-188). There are currently 31 Republican governors compared with 18 for Democrats. Republicans control 68 of 98 partisan state legislative chambers and the most state legislative seats since the 1920s. Nearly half of Americans now live in states under total Republican control.

One can argue that today, the Republican Party is the governing party in America – and that has occurred on Barack Obama’s watch and largely because of his failed presidency.

Consider: When Mr. Obama took office, Democrats held a filibuster-proof 60 seats, the largest margin for either party since 1978. In the House, Democrats held 257 seats to the GOP’s 178. Twenty-nine of out of the nation’s 50 governorships were in Democratic hands. During the Obama presidency, then, Democrats have lost 11 governorships, 13 U.S. Senate seats, 69 House seats, 913 state legislative seats and 30 state legislative chambers.

The Obama presidency has been good for Barack Obama, but it’s been a disaster for his party and America.
