Just finished watching "Dirty Harry" and thought.....Man, that looks like fun! I gotta get me one of those. OK, now that I've freaked out all the Liberals on the board, let me explain what I really need.

My Golden Retriever (who, I have to be honest, is my best pal in the world...don't tell the wife or my kids) and I have had a couple of close calls over the last two years with off leash dogs and/or owners that just weren't paying attention to their dogs. My dog is very submissive and each time we had these run-ins, he came very close to being severely hurt. We have a couple of dogs in the neighborhood who have gotten out of their yards recently. One is 110lb pitbull and the other is a blend of some sort of wolf (owner said he'll be 140 when he's full grown). Admittedly, both dogs are very nice on the surface but it concerns me in the event one of these guys just snapped one day. We also had a run-in with a boxer and another dog at a dog park a little while ago. Unfortunately, there are just a lot of bad owners around (none of the places we walk are considered bad neighborhoods). Basically, I want something that would temporary disable a dog so we can make a getaway. A friend told me I should look into a stun gun. My main concern is that it seems like you would have to be at point blank range to use it. The other suggestion was pepper spray, but I'm also questioning that one. I don't believe we can carry a taser and concealed weapons are against the law in California.

I know some of you guys hunt for sport so thought I'd throw it out to the forum to see if you had any suggestions. TIA for "Making My Day"!

pepper spray is very effective with dogs........u may end up getting some on too along with your dog is only drawback............i wouldnt suggest a 44 mag to blow away a loose canine on the street but thats your call

One of the worst feelings in the world = An owner who can't control his aggressive dog and your best friend getting the worst of it. Hopefully you can just fire into the air. Otherwise you better be a great shot.

I would recomend a 10 mm alot
more knock down power than a 9mm. Check your local laws in pa we can put down a loose dog in the woods or
on your property. Some of those stun guns like the po po use shoot out the prongs so u don't have to get super close. I wouldn't think u would need a permit or
anything since it's less then lethel

I've never had the need to own a firearm, but I figure for the problems you're describing a sawed-off shotgun would do the trick against a manic pitbull without fear of missing your target.

Plus you can easily keep it concealed simply by wearing a trenchcoat each time you walk your Ol' Pal.

You should pick up a gun anyway for your own protection, but I certainly wouldn't reccomend it for a dog attack.

Google "Dog Pepper Spray", there is mace specifically designed for dogs that totally incapacitates them for a period of time.
