Now that President Bush has been elected for a second term, and the Republicans are in solid control of both houses for the next two years or longer, I'd like to take a moment to reflect on how many Supreme Court justices could retire over the next several years.
Rehnquist should go for sure - he's 76 and has cancer and will probably retire in the next several months.
John Paul Stevens will be 80, and probably won't last another 4 years.
Sandra Day O'Connor is 70 and might last 4 more years - thay last longer nowadys - but I doubt it.
Ruth Ginsberg is 67 - and might last 4 years - and then again?
Scalia and Kennedy are both 64, and could possibly last another 8 or 10 years - but then again?
Another quetsion is who'll become the next Chief Justice when Rehnquist retires.
Geez - I can see it now - a Supreme Court stacked by the Republicans and good to last for another 25 years!
C'mon Doc and the rest of you - where's the love? I can't find any love in here!
