Or one thread for Hag talk and one thread for Rump talk. Starting a new thread every time The Hag coughs or Rump eats KFC on his plane, what for? And posting a bunch of pics or long articles to derail a poster's thread you don't like. Cmon guys.

If it was the main forum then I think a containment thread would be better, but poli forum is pretty much dead anyway. Only like 6-7 regular posters and most of them just insult each other rather than talk politics. Don't think it really matters how many low content threads there are.

And fwiw not saying we shouldn't have taken out Saddam, but not nearly enough is made of the colossal misstep in thinking these people were akin to Catholics and Protestants in Germany in 1945.

PF I posted an interview here a few weeks ago with an analyst who said the exact same thing. It is a misconception that if you free people from dictatorship and leave a vacuum that it will be filled by democratic institutions. When left alone the people turn to barbarism. We are now in the deciding war and it is global. Some on the R side at least recognize this. Many of the D and Librertarian want to turn to isolationism. This is even more dangerous.

Yeah, I don' think isolationism is the answer. Obviously nation building works in the right places, North Korea for instance, it would probably work.

I just think 95% of the media take on Iraq is about who to blame, but nobody talks about the underlying issues that make the region so complex for a world power to navigate. Oh well, just another way the media/populace dumbed down.

Even in 2003, there was no talk whatsoever about what a new Iraq would look like. Saddam had his foot on the neck of the dissenters, but without him they just rise up and it is civil war. And someone like him can't really stay in power. Could we have eliminated him (and any trace of weapons) and let the Baathe types still rule the country? Like beating up a bully and then telling his posse you will be back if they try to follow in his footsteps.

You follow this stuff probably on an order of magnitude like 10 times greater than I, what is the solution?

I think maybe at one time here it was one thread but quickly turned into a forum. The Political forum is the thread. Lately though it's spilled out to the Offshore forum but yet understandable being eletion season and soo much on the line.

Liberals have to curse at you and talk over you to state their non argumentative points.

I'm wondering if I'd answer the same pre-Iraq war as I would now? It's going to be a slow crawl to some form of democracy for the parts of the world in turmoil as we will eventually learn better methods to free subjugated peoples without leaving a vacuum for violent jihad. We get involved, or choose one bad side vs another, it goes bad. We isolate ourselves it gets even worse. I'm at a loss right now. I can't even deal with this boil on my ass named Dave007!
