We now have our own #1 pick here on the Island...a Mr. John Tavares.

Stamkos, Hedman, Vinny, Marty, and the rest of the Lightning better watch their backs...the Isles are looking to get out of the basement and gunning for that 29th spot next NHL season.

I think we know who this message is intended for....:toast:

I'm just trying to bait our friendly neighborhood Gulf Coast Mod (B'man) into a little back and forth....just having some fun.

Seriously, Hedman was definitely the right pick for Tampa Bay and, in theory, probably should've been the Isles pick. Heck, they need help everywhere except net, so a big defenseman would've been a great start. However, here on Long Island, they also needed someone that is going to bring fans to the Coliseum, so Tavares was the right pick for them.

Up until the draft started, there was recent talk that the Isles were going to select Matt Duchene from Brampton in the OHL. Both HNIC Radio and NHL Radio say he was who the Isles' "hockey guys" wanted and that Charles Wang and the biz guys wanted Tavares.

We will surrender the 29th spot in the NHL Power Rankings when you pry it from our suntanned fingers.

Please remove your sunglasses and put down the top on your convertibles before you surrender. BTW, we will keep the Hooters girls that come with being 29th.

Tampa has to be considered a playoff contender this year. Love that top 4 on defence. Been a while since you guys had more than one dman who could skate.

Our backup goalie....@ 40 years old (or so). Nice....
At least Rick DiPietro can hurt himself again and we don't have to bring someone up from Bridgeport to start.
