Rutgers and Tennessee both lost today because of poor special teams play. But Tennessee should just be ashamed they lost at all to a a mid-pack PAC -10 team returning only 8 starters and a third string QB.

Kickers... Have all of Bobby Bowden's painful lessons been forgotten?

If I could give one piece of advice to major college coaches it would be this: Don't trust that you'll find a solid kicker from among the walk-ons, set aside one scholarship for that position and go get the top kid from the state.

(Mack Brown, I'm looking at you. We still haven't forgotten how Mason Crosby was just up the road from Austin but went to Colorado because you insisted freshman kickers had to walk on.)

Can't remember when Fullmer had a real quality field goal kicker. Their recruiting does not seem to put emphasis on special teams.

I have also learned over the years that you should NEVER play a Phil Fullmer team that is favored. Play the Vols only when they are dogs. Their second half effort was pathetic and really indicative of this Tennessee program over the last half dozen years. He is constantly outcoached with what most experts would suggest is better than average talent. The SEC is an elite conference but Tennessee is really not one of their elite teams.

It wasn't just kicking. Getting a kicked blocked and returned for a TD (the difference in the game) can be attributed to all of your special teams players from the blockers to the holder and kicker..Just poor coaching and preparation on Tennessee and Rutgers parts today. And it was a 16 point turnaound in the score for both games.

Guess the TN punter won't be humming Mary had a little Lamb before he punts next week. That was actually a big story in the hard hitting Knoxville paper last week.
