SEND OUT THE CLOWNS: The WWE was in Cleveland last week and several Cavaliers attended the show, including Ricky Davis and Darius Miles. The Rock took time before his wrestling match to tell the crowd and high school phenom LeBron James that he should not play for the Cavs and should go to college.
The Rock can definitely smell what's cooking. The 12-53 Cavs stink, and they might stink on purpose. Bimbo Coles blasted the organization upon getting waived recently and said that Cleveland isn't trying to win games and is only trying to improve its chances in the James lottery/NBA Draft this summer. It explains why Tyrone Hill can't play for the Cavs but can start for the 76ers.
An embarrassing season got worse Sunday when clown Davis tried to take a shot at his own basket with six seconds left just so he could get the rebound and record a triple-double. Cleveland was winning by 25 points.
The rules say the rebound wouldn't have counted, but Utah's DeShawn Stevenson made sure and ran over and hammered Davis.
"That's garbage," said Stevenson, whose stock just took off. "There are too many people who have done too much in this sport to act like that. I saw that as real disrespect. This is the NBA. You've got to be professional, and that's not professional."
The Cavs decided Monday not to fine Davis, which should not be surprising. They don't care if they win games, so why should they care if one of their players shoots at the wrong basket with six seconds left.
"The deed is done," Cleveland coach Keith Smart said. "What good would it do to slap him on the wrist? He has to live with what he did. Wherever he goes, people will remember it."
No, not good enough. Most young players only care about one thing -- money -- and the league now needs to step in and take some from Davis. Then, he will remember what he did was stupid.
And while going to college may not be an option for James, maybe he should hold out if the Cavs pick him -- as Steve Francis did with Vancouver when he was drafted -- and just refuse to go until they trade him. Or maybe the NBA can launch a full-scale investigation at the moves the Cavs have made this season and the way they coach and play in the fourth quarters of games and strip them of the pick.
That way, they will be stuck with Davis at shooting guard for years.
