He dosent like govt interfering in his business.

Doesn't trust scientific methods.

Tough of Al Gore just pisses him off.

Knows that govt agencies are out to get him.

Tough hard nosed business man.

What I dont understand is how a though hard nose businessman like that wouldn't taste his own peanuts.

But Stewart Parnell was a regular contributer to the GOP. he should have been covered.

The perfect republican:

Walks around with blinders on to everything happening around him and either doesn't see coming or doesn't care to look into impending disasters like:

9/11
Katrina
the Banking Crisis
George Bush

If I was a farmer getting subsidy checks, maybe. If I were a crooked business man, not so much.

Its obvious. All thinking men want no more govt than necessary. But the GOP wants everything they can get and when the govt actually starts serving the people they go ballistic.

Bill Buckley mellowed a lot in later life.

Ronnie was a likable SOB but his accomplishments are debatable.

Newt? needs more study.

Newt had some problems in his personal life or he would likely have been POTUS by now. He created a consensus on ten items and promised the American people, "If you elect a Republican majority, we will bring these ten things to a vote in the House in the first 100 days" and he did so. One of the few politicians that kept his word in a long time.

Reagan signed the largest tax increase in California history. He also signed legislation protecting access to abortion.

Reagan increased the size of federal government (as measured by share of GDP expenditure) from a low of 19.7% to a high of 21.6% in the process destroying many of the social programs Americans relied on after World War II, and all with a larger government than FDR ever had! In fact, up to the Second World War, the government was never bigger than 20.7% of the GDP, and this is during the years of crazy government spending to get out of the big depression. What’s more, at its lowest point, the Roosevelt government was only 18.3% of the national GDP, a level never achieved by any other Republican up to President Bush.

And Newt Gingrich is the biggest hypocrite who ever drew breath. He preaches "family values" but sure as heck doesn't practice them.

I think that the Republican party has to convince the Evangelical base to put down their bibles and support intellect over religious beliefs. By that I mean if they were willing to accept that people like Gingrich are not perfect according their standards but his ability to solve problems out ways his perceived imperfections. They decided they could not vote for a man like him and look what they ended up with.

A November 13, 2000 article by Edward H. Crane, president of the libertarian Cato Institute, stated, "... the combined budgets of the 95 major programs that the Contract with America promised to eliminate have increased by 13%."

The contract with America promised to bring 10 items to a vote in the first 100 days of the Republican controlled Congress. It did not promise to eliminate any programs.
