Just got off the phone with an Rx advertiser while trying to place a wager. Got them to read me the lines, told them I want $1k on team X on the runline then mysteriously the line gets cut off. Call back immediately and lo and behold the runline moves 13 points against me while the ML and total stay the same. This was on a weekday at 11:30 am Eastern -- not exactly a time when lines fluctuate with heavy telephone traffic.

Anyone want to guess which book this was at?

BTW I do not, have not, and will never chase steam, nor do I subscribe to any line service. I may have caught a bad line but IMO that's their problem, not mine. I'm sure if I had taken the other side they would have gladly accepted the bet.

Just putting this one out in the open so that others can beware. BS like this needs to be EXPOSED.

HUGE difference between bad line and sleepy line. This was a sleepy line sir, not a bad one. Don't make yourself look bad by saying I may have caught a "bad" line.

Post a guess. Then when enough guesses come in, I'll give a cryptic answer that intelligent people will be able to figure out, but the dumdums at the book won't....deal?

According to more than a few RX posters, practices such as your situation are OK for books.

Changing lines, dual lines, & the infamous "cancel the bet via bad line" gag.

Is this the first time your call has been dropped while making a bet? Were you using land phone line or using a cellphone?

Which book did this occur?

Hard to guess which one as Any might do that.
But it might be better to just go ahead and tell us which one. JMHO

Lines used to always change at Hollywood for me via internet (before they were bought).

That would be my guess still though.

OK fine, I'll just come out and say it was Nine.

It was a cell phone call and to answer DWD's question, yes it was the first time a call was dropped. If it were random there could have been 10 times as many places during the call when it could have happened, but interesting enough it happened just about 5 seconds after I gave my play and before the clerk said anything in response. Considering a normal call is 3-5 minutes long, hitting that 5-second interval is more than a coincidence IMO.

One of two things could have happened:

1. Legitiamte dropped cel phone call and a coincidence that it happened five seconds after you made your play.

2. The clerk realized he had given you a line that had now moved and instead of handeling it correctly and taking the heat from his boss by writing the bet he just hung up to avoid an explanation why he let you have the play at the number he did. That is assuming there was a line move on that game from the time he read the line to you and the time you asked for the side you wanted.

He also could have told you sorry that line moved although that would have been wrong. The right way for a clerk to handle changes made during a readback is to inform the player before he makes a bet that game such and such has moved (not knowing what side the player wants if any) and the new line is whatever.

I don't see how this could have been any kind of conspiracy between the line manager and the clerk because of the time involved (5 seconds).

I will be glad to try and find out what really happened. Feel free to email me at wilheim@therx.com

Just book the bet. 13 cents ain't that big a deal.

Good point and what should have happened if the clerk read him the line as described. Easy enough to find the call that was cut short and hear DP make the bet.
