Actually, according to the AP coverage (cited in the other thread here in PoliticoPub), the package was NOT accepted.

Additionally, the cowardly pigs pulling off this inappropriate home invasion had to chase one of the dogs down and shoot it from behind.

Hey, I'm against the war on drugs every bit as much as you are. But denigrating all cops by calling them "pigs" is as ignorant as labeling all blacks for the actions of OJ or all Jews for the action of Jack Abramoff.

Nobody - especially me - has 'denigrated all cops" by calling them pigs.

I work with cops on a routine basis and come from a law enforcement family.

The harsh epithet of Pig is reserved for the small percentage (under 5% for sure) of cops who actively promote the destructive policy of drug Prohibition as being good for the community when in fact it directly increases death, disease, addiction, violent and property crime wherever it is most aggressively enforced.

This subset of cops know full well the damage their campaign causes to the community, yet they persist in promoting it, making them just another variation of government employee doing counterproductive work just so they can keep their noses deep in the government financial trough.

They bring shame to the vast majority of cops who are in most cases hard working, honest and sincere public servants.

I have no doubt you feel this way, and I agree with everything you're saying. My point is, when you use a term like that it's no different than, say, referring to Robert Mugabe as a "N#%##&R", but qualifying it by saying, "I only use this term to refer to a small subset of blacks". I think the larger subset to whom you're not referring would still be very much offended. Chris Rock may be able to get away with it, but you and I can't.

I've been getting away with it just fine for over ten years since becoming a public face in the drug policy reform movement.

Government employees who rip off the public are pigs and drug cops are just one prime example.

If this epithet makes you uncomfortable, you should certainly use descriptors with which you personally have more confidence.

Let me ask you a question. Seriously.

Do drug cops and other useless (actually alot worse than useless) vice cops volunteer for those jobs, or are they assigned to them?

Well, DEA agents obviously enlist with the intention to propogate Prohibition.

In most state and local agencies, cops working the narcotics beat do so with premeditation - that is, they seek out the job.

Though it might sound stereotypical, it's increasingly evident that a large percentage of drug cops are ex-military or military wannabes who derive great pleasure from the opportunities to participate in paramilitary enforcement tactics.

Unfortunately, in the War On (some) Drugs, the "enemy" is almost always our fellow American family, friends and neighbors.

I'm unaware of any cops at the state and local level who join and are immediately assigned to drug law enforcement.
