Police have identified this fan -- believed to have thrown the first beer at the Indiana Pacers' Ron Artest -- as John Green, of West Bloomfield.

John Green, of West Bloomfield, was caught on tape throwing his cup of beer onto Indiana Pacers player Ron Artest, Local 4 reported. The act sent Artest into a rage in the stands, where players and fans then fought during the game between the Pistons and the Pacers. <TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 align=right border=0><TBODY><TR><TD></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

Local 4 learned that Green has a criminal history, which includes the following offenses:

  • 2003 -- Operating under the influence of liquor/operating while visibly impaired (second offense)
  • 1989 -- Assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder
  • 1989 -- Escape from prison
  • 1986 -- Carrying concealed weapons
  • 1986 -- Uttering and publishing, which is using a false, forged, altered or counterfeit record, deed or instrument to injure or defraud.

He has that look that folks give at Debates when asked the following question:

"Can you name 3 mistakes you have made in your first term?"

Here is one of the better lines of the year ... Artest did an interview with People Magazine on Monday:

Meanwhile, Artest is promoting his record label, Truwarier, and said that with his other career endeavors he was trying to make his life more positive.

"Having a record company and putting out my own CD. There's clothes and shoes. There's also an upcoming book deal that I'm trying to do," he said.

"I'm trying to be positive. I'm a big fan of the Nobel Peace Prize."

its crazy i read some SI article on him like 2 years ago they show him making all these neat drawings and cool collages hes a really good artist they were to honor his favorite players amoung other things in life he appreciates.

but then he takes court (well not for a while now, but anyways) and he is always trying to whack someone with a flagrant foul. i mean ben wallace the play was pretty much a done deal and he just reaches up and whacks him like its total instinct.

jeckel and hyde.

ive never seen anything like this. i mean rodman was a prolific rebounder and solid defender, but not only is artest the best defender in the game but he can put up 30 pts on a given night in a variety of ways. ive just never seen such a telented NBAer signing autographs and being soft spoken outside of the game but when he takes the court he tottaly loses his cool.

he definatly needs help

I have no clue on how to figure out Artest ....

Maybe he needs to hang out with Ricky Williams for a while and see if Ricky can help him figure out the mysteries of life

Whats the point about who threw the cup? Throwing a cup warrants expulsion from the arena and possibly some other small charge. It doesnt merit an assault with intent to do great bodily harm. Especially when the moron went after an innocent fan instead.

It's guys like him that make the lines 3x as long when trying to get into any sporting event because of all the bag and/or body cavity searches by security. I say throw the book at him.

Now we know a little bit about one of the idiots involved, can you find out the criminal record of the other idiot involved, this Artest guy. I read in USA today that in one single NBA season he was suspended 12 times. Not 1 or 2, but twelve!!! So my guess is that off court he would not be a model citizen.

It's the medications legal/illegal, prescribed/un-prescribed, detectable/undetectable that cause those Jekyll & Hyde episodes....

As an aside: way too much alcohol's served at sporting events-- you almost can't take the whole family to one anymore...
Ehh, at least it ain't as bad as the rest of the world: you won't get killed, fans don't hurl piss-filled ballons & plastic bags at the participants......

I think Artest and O'Neal should count their blessings ...

hell, that shot O'Neal wound up and threw on the court at that fan ... man, I remember the damage done to Tomjonavich by Washington

Both of em should be glad they did no real physical damage to anyone ....

Let the lawsuits fly!

Legally, the beer/plastic cup tosser will be charged with probably a moderate misdemeanor assault. Don't think inciting a riot will hold water.

The fan/person who threw the chair, if he can be identified will most likely face a felony assault and battery.

I'd be greatly surprised if several of the players escaped any charges. The fact that they attatcked fans without knowing who threw the cup is no excuse and is clearly an assault, most likely a misdemeaor.

The shots given by Artest on the floor against that one fan were self-defense.

A wonderful mess, think twice about taking the kids. Fan's stupidity and players who have no self-restraint makes for a lousy mix. :nono5:
