I guess I have to connect some more dots.

Everyone knows that Hollywood is dominated by left wingers many of whom are activists to some extent, some more than others.

I am sure most of us remember the comments that American Sniper director Clint Eastwood made at the most recent Republican convention. Yes, you got it, he is not a left winger. The very fact that he made the largest grossing movie of the year was demeaned by the presenter of the award for Best Picture, Sean Penn.

Sean Penn of all people. The same guy who accused the Bush administration of war crimes in Iraq. Is it beginning to hit home yet. Penn represents the far left and this was a deliberate slap in the face of Eastwood. The fact that Eastwood was not even nominated for Best Director is even a more obvious slap in his face. But choosing Penn to present this award was the Academy’s way of making another political statement directed at both Eastwood and his movie.

So Penn comments that the amount of money a film grosses is not the benchmark for Best Picture. Really, that needed to be said. The fact that more people went to see American Sniper is not even a consideration. Right.

All validity for the Academy Awards went down the drain this week. Politics rules the roost. The biggest slap in the face goes to the Academy who had to sit back and watch as Eastwood put together a masterpiece. Anyone who saw that movie knows what I mean. When that movie ended the theater was totally silent as everyone left, much like a church. Why, because that movie made you think. That movie made you face some realities. But first and foremost that movie did not fit the typical Hollywood mold.

Although Eastwood and his movie did not get the recognition they deserved all those who saw the movie know better. Liberals live in their own little world and this week it became even more obvious.

American Sniper grossed more than 7 of the nominated movies added together.

The Oscars is now ruined, it used to promote the beauty of movies and encourage people to go to the movies.

It is as you say all political now. It has lost all credibility.

What realities did the movie make you face?

Hurt Locker won for best picture so the academy already fulfilled their thoughtful war movie quota

Well didn't this movie have a late start? Even though this movie was a box office hit, it didn't get the best reviews. I have no dog in the fight because I have yet to see it.

Birdman? Fucking Birdman?

Yeah I haven't watched that yet. I have some friends who were shocked it won the awards it did, but often times the critics and the public are on opposite ends of the spectrum. Now if you google American Sniper reviews you can see the critique on Eastwood regarding the movie. I wouldn't know I am not an expert, I really don't think Birdman won over American Sniper because of politics. I do not like Sean Penn either and think he should shut up.

And for that matter I don't give a fuck who you are, an actor, professional athlete, musician etc. You have the right to express your political opinion and I have the right to not give a shit. People who who blindly follow their political beliefs are no different than people who blindly follow Rush, Hannidy, or Savage.

Apparently Patricia Arquette thinks nobody ever fought for women's rights before. Or something.

Listening to a multi-millionaire screech about pay equity is kind of unbelievable. But of course these people live in a pretend world.

How much do you know about the director of Hurt Locker, Katherine Bigelow. She walks on the other side of the street than does Clint Eastwood. That movie barely broke even and in fact was the lowest grossing movie to ever win Best Picture at the Academy Awards. That is pure politics and the left wingers in Hollywood rolled out the red carpet for one of their fellow believers and pulled the rug right out from under Eastwood whose movie was the highest grossing movie on the year. In Hollywood it is not what you do it is all about who you are....and politics define who you are.

To quote you "often times the critics and the public are on opposite ends of the spectrum." Do you think that has nothing to do with politics when it comes to a movie like American Sniper. The political differences between Katherine Bigelow (Hurt Locker) and Clint Eastwood (American Sniper) come from opposite ends of the spectrum. Eastwood not being nominated for best director was purely political. Having Sean Penn give the award for Best Picture was purely political. You cannot take the politics out of Hollywood.

Hurt Locker:

[h=3]Response among veterans[edit][/h]The film was criticized by some Iraq veterans and embedded reporters for inaccurately portraying wartime conditions.[SUP][46][/SUP] Writing for The Huffington Post, Iraq veteran Kate Hoit said that The Hurt Locker is "Hollywood's version of the Iraq war and of the soldiers who fight it, and their version is inaccurate." She described the film as being more accurate than other recently released war films, but expressed concerns that a number of errors—among them wrong uniforms, lack of radio communication or misbehavior of the soldiers—would prevent service members from enjoying the film.[SUP][47][/SUP]
Author Brandon Friedman, also a combat veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan, shared a similar view at VetVoice: "The Hurt Locker is a high-tension, well-made, action movie that will certainly keep most viewers on the edges of their seats. But if you know anything about the Army, or about operations or life in Iraq, you'll be so distracted by the nonsensical sequences and plot twists that it will ruin the movie for you. It certainly did for me." Friedman criticized the inaccuracy of the film's representation of combat, saying "in real life, EOD techs don't conduct dangerous missions as autonomous three-man teams without communications gear ... Another thing you'll rarely hear in combat is an EOD E-7 suggesting to two or three of his guys that they leave the scene of an explosion in an Iraqi city by saying: 'C'mon, let's split up. We can cover more ground that way.'"[SUP][48][/SUP]
At the blog Army of Dude, infantryman and Iraq veteran Alex Horton noted that "the way the team goes about their missions is completely absurd." He still generally enjoyed it and called it "the best Iraq movie to date."[SUP][49][/SUP]
Troy Steward, another combat veteran, wrote on the blog Bouhammer that while the film accurately depicted the scale of bomb violence and the relations between Iraqis and troops, "just about everything else wasn't realistic." Steward went on to say: "I was amazed that a movie so bad could get any kind of accolades from anyone."[SUP][50][/SUP]
A review published March 8, 2010 in the Air Force Times[SUP][51][/SUP] cited overall negative reviews from bomb experts in Iraq attached to the 4th Brigade, 1st Armored Division, quoting a bomb disposal team leader who called the film's portrayal of a bomb expert "grossly exaggerated and not appropriate," and describing the lead character as "more of a run and gun cowboy type … exactly the kind of person that we're not looking for." Another bomb disposal team member said that the lead character's "swagger would put a whole team at risk. Our team leaders don't have that kind of invincibility complex, and if they do, they aren't allowed to operate. A team leader's first priority is getting his team home in one piece."
On the embedded side, former correspondent for The Politico and Military Times Christian Lowe (who embedded with U.S. military units each year from 2002 to 2005) explained at DefenseTech: "Some of the scenes are so disconnected with reality to be almost parody."[SUP][52][/SUP]
On the other hand, Henry Engelhardt, an adjutant with the National Explosive Ordnance Disposal Association having 20 years' experience in bomb defusal, complimented the film's atmosphere and depiction of the difficulties of the job, saying, "Of course, no film is realistic in all its details, but the important things were done very well."[SUP][53][/SUP] Screenwriter Mark Boal noted that The Hurt Locker was produced independently, without US Army extras.[SUP][54][/SUP]
Former British bomb disposal officer Guy Marot said, “James makes us look like hot-headed, irrational adrenaline junkies with no self-discipline. It’s immensely disrespectful to the many officers who have lost their lives.” [SUP][55][/SUP]

And she was vigorously applauded by other multi-millionaires.

I guess I fell off the turnip truck but no I don't think its political. Eastwood suffers criticism from the movie and the reasoning doesn't appear politically based

Haha, it's just hilarious how much they fantasize about the past. It makes no sense to me, the past looks brutal. There was far worse poverty, crime, racism, etc. And one thing that people have to keep in mind is our poverty level changes with the growth in our standard of living, so even though relatively we might still have a large population below the poverty line, the poverty line now is pretty much lavish living back in the 1800s, lol. Our impoverished citizens have a higher standard of living than China and India average citizen combined by quite a bit. It is crazy how spoiled America is right now, and they honestly believe in their heads that we are worse off than the 1800s-1950s. It's crazy how much they have revised history in their minds.

Birdman was a fucking awful movie.

overall, 2014 was a horrible year for movie. No classics that will be mentioned for years to come. :>( Maybe the worst year ever for Hollywood and others.
