I've had a few people bothered by the fact that I have no interest in the POTUS's Health Care Plan. When I tell them that I want reform but don't want his plan because it's not a good solution and that he is just trying to deceive America, they put the fingers in the ears and the blinders on. I submitted what I thought was the most comprehensive literature I have seen awhile back on this site, but admittedly doubt that most people to took the time to read the 190 pages like I did. Why anyone wouldn't take the time to educate themselves on this matter is beyond me since your life might depend on it.
One of the many deceptions out there is the myth of the 46 million uninsured Americans that is bandied about. I would like to propose right now that we all walk through this together so there is no confusion.
The first thing you need to do is go to the site of the census report used by Democrats to make this claim...
http://www.census.gov/prod/2008pubs/p60-235.pdf
Go to Table 6 (page 22 on the report or 30/84 if you want to put in the number on the top of the page)
In the 7th column to the right, under the 2007 uninsured category you will see a number of 45,657. This number is in 1000's, so this is where you get the 46 million Americans uninsured.
Next, go about halfway down the page to the row that has household income. If you total up the last two rows, you will find that households with income of $50,000+ total to approximately 18 million (over 9 million of this figure earn more than $75,000). These are people that could at lease purchase a catasthrophic insurance policy and choose not too (but for some reason we should all feel a responsibility for them). This same group paid $30 billion out of pocket for their own care.
Next, look a few rows up at Nativity. Notice on the row "not a citizen", that accounts for nearly 10 million. These are people that pay no taxes and are not Americans.
Add to this that as many as 14 million Americans of lower income are only uninsured because they won't fill out the forms for Medicaid, Medicare, or SCHIP (that includes 70% of uninsured children based on a 2008 study by Georgetown University Health Policy Institute).
If we just do the math for most of this (let's take the households making $75k+, Non-Americans, and people qualifying for government assistance if they will just fill out the damn form), we come up with about 13 million uninsured. Add in the households of $50k and now we're at about 6 million uninsured.
I think in fairness, most of us that are objective can see that there is quite a bit of deception going on here. Obviously this is nothing more than an attempt to create a sense of urgency by sensationalizing figures so we can rush through an agenda which is not practical for the country and will inevitably reduce the quality of health care and cost more (as based on the CBO report).
