Look for some receuiting violations to start leak out at Tenner. He's recruited very well, legal or not. I expect that things will start to come out in shear anger from people within to try and shorten Butch Jones tenure.

Best thing texas can as can do is to give strong a couple more years to fix that place. He's overhauling a culture.

Played golf this afternoon with my UT buddy who provides me info. His dad is a big UT. I think you may be on to something that they are working on getting Charlie out at Texas. The Caveat to this...they are targeting Chip Kelly from the Philadelphia Eagles. Ironically, and I've not verified this, but the "show cause" for Chip Kelly expires at the end of December 2015. This might change 50 times before the season is over but they tend to be in the know. It would make sense in that with Kelly wanting to run the spread offense, and all the Texas HS run the spread. There'd be a wealth of talent to recruit from. That might be expedited if the Eagles continue to tank.

The problems at Texas started long before Strong's arrival. It was deep and started at the top. Anyone who thought Strong was going to be the Pied Piper should have known better. Watch Mack come back and be AD. Tennessee has been having problems even longer than Texas. Schools do not need Pied Pipers, they need proven entities with success at the top level. Michigan landed Harbaugh and he is 4-1 and a top ranked defense. He will recruit to his offense and they are back where they used to be. Could Strong have done what Harbaugh has done at Michigan, I doubt it. Could Harbaugh be turning the Longhorns around if he was in Austin, you betcha. No matter what the Longhorns should be much stronger defensively. Good things were expected from Tenn this year but not so much as it turns out. Texas is ranked #93 in scoring offense and #113 in scoring defense. Tenn is ranked #30 in scoring offense and #71 in scoring defense. So Texas is even down from last year and Tenn is about the same. Schools like those two need to go for the gusto when hiring a HC. If you settle you pay a price.

If UGA comes out and fires on all cylinders UT will offically quit as a football team. The fans are done with Jones. Chances are you will hear boos early and often come Saturday at Neyland. Unless Jones wins, i doubt he makes it through the weekend.

Strong was paid a lot of money to come to Texas. Usually you give a guy a few years to turn things round, but this has been an absolute train wreck.

Also, firing an African-American Head Coach after ONE year? Lots of national backlash if that happens.

tenn quarter splits are incredible vs the 3 power 5 opponents (0-3 record)
1Q 31-14
2Q 20-13
3Q 6-14
4Q 7-28

almost like they have a great game plan but after 2-3 series they cannot make an adjustment while the opponent can. and completely forget about a halftime adjustment

i guess i can understand getting outcoached by bobby stoops and a nick saban disciple, but bret bielema? really?

Bielema was 0-13 in his last 13 one-possession games as a head coach. now 1-13

no way they get rid of him during the season but perhaps at the end of nov when they don't make bowl, so will give him two full seasons. don't forget they paid 4.5M to lville to buy him out of the contract so this could end up being a $15M 23-month mistake (and that is with NO buyout for strong).

his only saving grace is the fact they are starting something like 15 frosh or true frosh in starting 22. board might want to see this through especially if Strong has a huge buyout in this contract ...

Butch isn't going anywhere until the end of next season at the earliest. His coaching skills are worse than an 8 yr old on playstation. He doesn't understand clock management at all. Big buyout keeps him safe. He could turn things around but if i had my way he'd be gone today.

Thats only because he ran so many kids out of the program. I don't think he should be fired, however, losing games like they have and failure to execute reflects directly on COACHING. And that's on him. I sat in a hotel room in Los Angeles last weekend and watched them botch snaps to the punter. That goes to coaching. Which if you go back to comments by a couple of their boosters, it's exactly what they said. Great coordinator, not a head coach. However, because they dont have an AD, it might buy him another year, but if he does not turn it around, his days will be numbered. He's damaging the brand right now with their play on the field.

Why would you fire him? A ton of wvu fans wanted him after rod left...that coaching tree is slow to make adjustments. Seems very stubborn...but it does seem like he rode Brian Kelly coattail for awhile using all his players...

Biz, Texas is a pretty RED state and really fits right in with most of the dummies in the south (unfortunately from an educational perspective because the south has some pretty poor states with respect to Education). With that being said, I doubt there will be any backlash IF Strong was replaced. I don't think RACE has anything to do with it. It's all about Bad Fit/Poor Presentation on the field.

I get that.

But lots of white coaches get far longer leashes than some that aren't.

They played undefeated Cal and undefeated OKSt (which face it isnt saying much when both programs are going to have a lot of losses by end of the season) to the final snaps. Want to blame someone? Blame the special teams coach. Missing PATs and a punt snap....basic stuff you can always rely on.....how do you blame the head coach for that?

Face it though, those 2 losses really deflated the team and then to take your n00b QB on the road to a top program, then lose your best offensive player on the first snap.....it just spiraled from there. The overall team performance was pretty inexcusable though.

It's hard to pass judgement until the final game. If Texas gets steamrolled by Tech, OU, Baylor.....that might be it no matter what happens vs. ISU, WVa, KSt, KU. Some are going to give him another year because he probably deserves it and the money isnt cheap for a buyout. Some are ready for him to go now.

The problem remains for Texas, who do you hire? They went after Saban...both Harbaughs....Briles (?)...and the guys they really wanted passed on it. So who would you bring in that really wants the job? If Chip gets fired, do they bring him in?

Lots of questions with few answers. I'm pretty pissed about the TCU game but willing to see where the season goes from here....

SDF,
I know this is tough for you. It's tough for anyone who loves that program. I celebrated the hire last year although I didn't think it would be a good fit. Having been on a sideline, granted it's easy to point to the special teams coach, but as the HC, the buck stops with you. I'm sure he's now taking some of his time and working with the special teams coach and players. As an outsider looking in, and these are the discussions I have with UT folks...
1) Texas HS football is all spread all the time. Much easier to get talent to fit a spread, SO WHY install a Pro-Style offense? Bad coaching decision (IMO). Step outside your comfort box and get a top notch spread OC and let him run your system. Have your guys learn from the coach and if you are successful, he'll move on.
2) Coming into this year, why did he go all spring, then fall camp knowing that you didn't have talent for the Pro-Style offense, and not going with the spread and Heard in game #1. Might have been able to catch ND napping.
3) Demoting Wickline probably should have been done in private. Very easily could have said Wickline is our OC but Norvell is going to call plays in game. Could have done all the other stuff behind the scenes. Granted, I know his hand was forced to make that move (or atleast that's what i was told by a pretty reliable source).

Add Sonny Dykes to that list of potential coaches, although I think Charlie is back for another year depending on how this season ends. You're correct, its a big buyout.

At least the Vols compete.....Losing to Arkansas is a bad loss I will admit up 14-0 and they lose it at home 24-20.....They had Florida on the ropes bad loss again and a close loss to Oklahoma.

Like I said at least they are in these games.

Texas and Charlie Strong this team doesn`t even compete....I don`t care what anyone says....Charlie Strong has no clue and the higher ups know it.

Jim Harbaugh goes to Michigan and he turns this program around in a matter of 5 games....He has them ranked 18th in the country.

The count down is on for Charlie....He is out.....No doubt about it.

Good luck!

Harbaugh inherited a top 15 defense. He also plays in a conference where he's only going to be challenged by 3 teams each season. Let's see how he competes against MSU and OSU as well as NWestern this weekend.

WinOne!!
