Mike Silver (nfl.com) is reporting Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin is "trying hard
to get into the NFL."

The guy makes $5 million a year and wants to bail out at College Station.

Wonder why...........................

He's learned that you can't get over the hump as an Aggie. He owes Manziel for getting him the huge contract and now he's flaming out, typical A&M.

$5 M a year....Where does all this money come from that these college coaches are making now-days.

Sumlin had his top two quarterbacks quit and yesterday his offensive coordinator resigned.

Common sense tells us 2016 is probably a make or break year for the coach. No wonder
he's interested in the NFL.

Donor's and boosters. Usually around 250-750,000 comes from the school ath dept and then the rest will come from a fundraising arm that you have to donate too for season tickets, parking passes, etc. That foundation will also put things in the contracts for special appearances, tv shows, speaking at fundraisers etc.

Kevin Steele was just hired as defensive coordinator at Auburn for $1.4 million
a year. During 2015, Steele was LSU's DC at a measly $1 million a season. In
my opinion, Steele is a good football man but just an average defensive coordinator.

Clemson fired him a few years back as their DC. Thinking Auburn was in panic
mode with this hiring.

When will Auburn wake up and realize that giving the most money to a DC is not going to fix their issue... THey just hired someone for more than the previous gig when the previous gig wasn't working out. Dumb

Right now Sumlin is sitting in the drivers seat of a swag jet that's about to crash. Their intention from the beginning has been to get away from Texas and grow. The money spent on improvements isn't going to tolerate the crashing of their investment. Anybody think they will do better next year? But there is a slight little problem. Sumlin still has $20 million left on his current contract. There's no way he's walking away from that for an NFL assistant job. There's probably a settlement clause in there somewhere, but he's still going to be owed $5 for next season. I think he'll probably coach next year, then after that will be dead man walking if he doesn't turn things around..

GS, ole Sumlin seems to have gone from the "Penhouse" to the "Outhouse" in a hurry.

A&M's big money guys won't tolerate another season like 2015.

With the stadium, facilities, fan support and $$$$$$ available....don't blame them.

Wondered about that hire as it did not make much sense.

Actually the other thing that is hurting Sumlin is the price of Oil has bottomed out. Got all the Oil and Gas guys in a pissy mood. NFL has been after Sumlin for awhile, and he could have jumped before taking the A&M job had he wanted. He was also rumored to have been on the USC list. He'll be fine next year if he stays in Aggieland, I think his recruiting and DC bail him out next year. He's also trying to pry Sonny Cumbie from TCU.

WinOne...love your attitude my friend but WHO is going to play quarterback for Sumlin
next year. When two 5stars just walk off...something ain't right my friend especially when
the offensive coordinator also quits.

I have Zero inside information on A&M's football program...as an outsider...all ain't well!

Remember, I mentioned above, IF he stays in Aggieland. I keep hearing that the NFL is interested and have been for some time now. There do seem to be issues and it seems to have started on the coaching staff last offseason Sumlin brought in Dave Christenson to be the run game coordinator thinking that they needed to be more physical in the run game and that is would help his QB's develop. Now I don't know this directly but Christenson did not mesh with Spavital. Don't know if it was over pay, or "who" reported to "who", this I don't know. I'm trying to find out what happened as well. I've got a friend that might but he's over in China on business. I do know that they were trying to get QB Allen to stay.

The Texas A&M "EXIT" continues.

Athletic Director Eric Hyman has announced he's resigning. Hyman has been AD since 2012.

Also, A&M President has given Sumlin the ole "vote of confidence."

Oh oh...the "old vote of confidence" routine......That usually means he is on a very hot seat.

So maybe the method to their Madness was not so far out of right field.
Their new university president asks the current AD Hyman to step down so that he can bring in a guy in Scott Woodward that he worked with at UWash, and Woodward also worked at LSU so he's got experience in the SEC. Woodward hired Sark and Chris Petersen during his time at UW. HC Sumlin jettisons OC Spavital and brings in his buddy Noel Mazzone, a guy who I am familiar with from his time at ASU. If it's true, that's a win-win.

Quick Story from a few years ago when. When ASU fired Dennis Erickson, we actively wanted to hire Kevin Sumlin who at the time was at UH. Doing some of the initial behind the scene calls, one of the things Sumlin wanted was to find out Mazzone would be retained. We later found out that Sumlin was gonna take the A&M job and Mazzone was heading to UCLA to work for Mora where he's been for the past 4 years. They are apparently pretty good friends and buddies.

About Mazzone...he is the master of motion on offense. It allows his young QB's to get pre-snap reads and probably why Josh Rosen this year, and Hundley previous couple of years had been successful in running the offense. He's also very good at using the screen game to occupy a good pass rush. He's also had a pretty solid run game despite some of the deficiencies on the UCLA OL the past few years.
We won't know until they suit up and start hitting but that sounds like an upgrade in OC.

No continuity at A&M. Think this is 3rd AD and 2nd uni president Sumlin will work with since he became head coach. Wasn't really impressed with either qb that transferred out and Manziel owes a lot of his success to Mike Evans being so much better than any db in SEC. Manziel could run around and chuck it up in Evans' area and he would get it.
